Ken Chan Ramen - Ramen Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

The service was fast and the staff was friendly. Good prices and tasty food. Will visit again

Being so thrilled with my first visit to Ken-chan, we decided to return when we recently craved Japanese. Unfortunately, there was a huge change that impacts my original review. The gyoza are no longer pan fried, but now deep fried! It's such a shame because I had for just an instant the greatest gyoza experience I've had outside of Japan for many years. Now their gyoza is inedible. At the worst, steamed would've been an acceptable exchange. The new style of prep is just thoroughly disappointing. I also wanted to call attention to the spoon situation here. When they serve rice dishes, including Katsu Curry, it's being served with a soup spoon meant for miso and ramen. This is a highly impractical spoon for this purpose. My kingdom for just a regular large metal spoon! I even observed that their ramen is being served with a spoon that is definitely not the best or even meant for the purpose of eating ramen. All this taken into account, I had to knock a couple stars from my original review of Ken-chan. I recently came across and enjoyed a great dinner at Yanagi Ramen, so I will stick to them for my "fix" from now on. What a shame, as Ken-chan is heading the right way in terms of authenticity when it comes to their rice dish quality and ramen flavor. That gyoza hit me hard in the feels, and the utensils situation makes for a frustrating eating experience. read more

Ken Chan Ramen - #30 Chicken Paitan - Ramen Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

For so long, Lubbock has not had a decent ramen place, but it's amazing that it now has two. Ken-Chan is one of them, offering hakata ramen (a lighter, 48 hour pork broth), feeling a lot lighter than most creamy broths. If you're used to stronger flavors in ramen, consider adding the flavor/spicy bomb option. The noodles have a firm, satisfying texture that rivals some of the best ramen we've had. The meat was very soft and succulent, with great flavor too. Ambiance would be an 8/10, very cool design with ramune/sake on the wall. It's an intimate type of hakata experience that's hard to find around here and definitely should stick around. I do think servers could be a bit more proactive but it was overall decent. This restaurant is a must try in Lubbock! read more

Ken Chan Ramen - Miso ramen！ - Ramen Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

Ken chan has a nice vibe to it. The store is always clean, the service is fast, and with nice people. However, the food is only ever alright. There is parts to every ramen that is good but it never reaches where it seems like it could get. Like with the black garlic ramen. It's served with this really savory broth, but with very cheap tasting noodles. I would recommend the Mochi though. read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The restaurant itself is lovely and the service fabulous. The ramen!!! Oh my gosh!!! Curry Paitan chicken was so incredibly good. They have a great menu with something for everyone. Kids menu too! read more

I highly recommend this place! Such a great experience overall. First off, it's a beautiful environment--so inviting and smells amazing. The appetizers, ramen, mochi icecream just fuels your soul. The service was also outstanding. There was just one guy serving all the tables and acting as the host; yet, you never had to wait long for food or your drinks. The waiter was highly capable of servicing the entire front of house. This is what happens when restaurants hire based on work ethic! Best ramen in Lubbock! Don't go anywhere else. read more

I've tried this restaurant a twice and was able to capture pics this time. The food is amazing, great quality ramen, and very tasty. I've only gone during lunch so it's slow, but the waitress I've had both times was super helpful and kind. Very nice small restaurant, well lit and all around a good vibe. Appetizers are amazing, ramen is great, and the price is very reasonable. read more

I was really looking forward to this place as a change from the local Thai and Vietnamese spots. Unfortunately this place did not blow me away as I had hoped. The flavors were just mediocre. The Eel Bowl was just ok. The piece of Unagi was actually quite large but they depended too much on the sauce to provide the flavor and not the grilling, hence too much sauce that made the rice a little too soggy. Teriyaki Shrimp, again, had ample amount of food with larger-than-normal sized shrimp. Unfortunately the sauce just clouded everything. The ambiance was quiet and I liked it. Perfect for when you're trying to just chill towards the end of a busy day. The older man reminded me of ChooChai ... a little impatient but nothing rude. I would probably return but not cos I'm looking for an unforgettable culinary event, only just to have a quiet dinner. read more

What a cute, unexpected little place to find alongside a highway in Lubbock, TX! From the get-go, the service was attentive, quick and helpful, and the food was also pretty good! I ordered the "HOT CHA-CHA Ramen with bomb jang sauce" , edamame, and an order of egg rolls. I thought it was a good amount of food for the price point (after tip, it was a little over $30). The only thing I would be weary of is the "bomb jang sauce", itself. It had a nice level of spice, however, the salt component of the sauce threw off the salt-balance of the broth. I would personally suggest getting the "Ken-Chan Char Sui Ramen" and then getting the bomb jang sauce on the side if you're leaning towards the "HOT CHA-CHA". That way YOU can control the saltiness of the broth and the spice according to your palate (you also save $1.50 by doing it this way, haha!) All-in-all, I would definitely go back for the great service, the surprisingly good food, and the calm, mid-week ambience. read more

This is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. It was the perfect portion size, and really cheap for how much you were getting! Our server, John, was very friendly and personable and knew the menu well. We even got some sake on the house! I ordered the #1 with brisket and it was SO delicious. I don't usually drink broth, but I finished every sip. Whoever was in charge of the music did a great job: it was all throwback emo/rock songs (Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Evanescence), and at a good volume too. Not too loud. It was very clean, well-lit, and fashionably furnished. I will be coming back for more and bringing friends when I do! read more

Good food good service. I would recommend the ribeye bowl and the tonkotsu char siu ramen. Meat quality is great. The inside also has a nice vibe with the sleek looking wall of ice cold beverages. great spot for ramen. read more

Horrible tasting ramen, avoid at all costs. also, when I sent the ramen back, they kept it on the check. Boyfriend states that the ramen was way too salty. For me, the flavor was very off, and the texture of the ramen was SLIMY. Server didn't know anything about the wines, and as a result, initially let us into believing that one of the one of the better wines were a part of the promotion (first glass off.) Come to find out the only ones that are a part of the promotion are these terrible wines from Texas, DO NOT TRY. They are disgusting. Ambience was nice though. read more

The food was good, but the service was okay we had this woman and she was taking very long even though she wasn't doing anything just walking around. And this old man had to give us our sauce we asked for and she acted like she forget even though she wasn't doing anything. But yes the food was good, and it was a very very very long wait to get our food. The ambiance was nice but o really can't remember but ya it's kinda small inside too. read more

Awesome new ramen spot. The restaurant itself is stunning and very well designed with a mix of traditional Japanese decor and modern stylings. The food we got was fantastic! We tried the agadashi tofu and brisket buns for appetizers and the curry chicken ramen and eel rice bowl for entrees. All very delicious and got out to us in a timely manner. The ramen broth had an authentic flavor and the noodles were the right consistency. The owner was so friendly and made sure our table had everything we needed while we dined. First off, Nadia, our server was awesome! Very friendly, and pleasant to chat with. The food was good! Now for the cost, it isn't bad for what you get, however, watch the prices. What it says and what you pay are different. I was charged a different price than what the menu says. I was told, they need to update the menu prices. Y'all have been open since Monday the 24th of July, a whole week and already need to update prices. Come on guys, get it together. read more
