The shopping center itself is a bit dated. Its tenants have changed over the years with the anchor store no longer the high foot traffic generating Farm Fresh. That space is now occupied by a Planet Fitness. An out parcel space once occupied by Boston Market has received a nice new renovation in the form of Habit Burger & Grill. That spot is a great addition and is what brought me back to Collins Square after many years. Also occupying the strip are stores including the UPS Store, Game Stop, Fleet Feet, Tropical Smoothie, Seafood Kitchen, Virginia Beach City Treasurer, nail salons, tax preparation, and various other stores. There is plentiful parking for the type of businesses housed in Collins Square. I'll certainly return for Habit Burgers but not for any of the other establishments.

Each time I turn into the shopping center from Kempsville Road I directly face the beloved spot that no longer exists. The shopping center is located on the northwest corner of Kempsville & Providence Roads. It provides convenient one stop shopping for residents in the area. It's easy to stop for a car wash at Green Clean Express when I'm returning from a doctor appointment in Chesapeake. The L shaped center is anchored by a Food Lion facing the Providence Road entrance. In addition to the previously mentioned businesses the shopping center houses numerous popular fast food restaurants, Music & Arts, Ivy Rehab Center, a pharmacy, cell phone store, hair & nail salons and much more. It truly is one stop shopping. The facade has been upgraded over the years. It's clean and has plentiful parking. Entrance & exit on busy Kempsville Road can be difficult during peak traffic. It's easier at those times to take advantage of the traffic light at Providence Road, even if your stop is on a Kempsville Road out parcel, such as Green Clean Express. The shopping center will always be a stop for me, even though Frankie's Ribs is now only a part of my memories.

Over the years the anchor grocer has changed as has the grocery industry. What began as A&P when I first moved to Virginia Beach was followed by now defunct Farm Fresh. The current occupant of the space is the popular Harris Teeters. A now empty space was once occupied by a large Rite Aid drugstore that included a medical equipment section not available at the chain's other locations. I'm excited about what could move into the large space. The mix of businesses in the shopping center is quite convenient. It proves such value to me in both time & gas expended. I'm able to make multiple shopping stops in the same close location. One can find everything from a UPS store & ABC Store to health foods, hair salons, clothing discounter, jeweler, insurance agency & much, much more. The explosion of popular spots moving to Haygood Shopping Center came after the facelift it received at the time of the Harris Teeters opening. The center has also served as a draw for businesses to open in the surrounding area, creating a veritable island of firms serving the northern area of Virginia Beach, Thank you Haygood Shopping Center for bringing popular & convenient businesses to our area.

Longtime out parcel Hardee's sits facing First Colonial. Adjacent is a convenient new 7-Eleven. Out parcels of Great Neck Square & Great Neck Village have contained different restaurants or fast food over the years. Great Neck Square has received facelifts that have kept the longtime shopping center a feature of the current times. It isn't often that I currently do business in the shopping center that I pass so often. Hardee's is a convenient but high calorie breakfast stop if I've had to fast before testing or a procedure at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. 7-Eleven has been a welcomed fuel stop. The center occupies the southeast corner of the intersection of Great Neck Road & Shore Drive, directly across Shore Drive from the Delta Hotel. The entrance & exits are a bit tricky, depending on the direction one is approaching from. The traffic on Shore Drive & the lack of curb cuts on Great Neck make the entrance & exit choices something learned over time. Coming from the west on Shore Drive entrance should be from Shore Drive, after one passes through the intersection's traffic light.
