Leatherhead town centre is a very strange place. With a very rich local population, I would have…read moreexpected a thriving and busy place but the reality is a sorry collection of shops which seem almost apologetic in their composition Fitting in with this, the Swan Centre is a strange shopping centre which is incorporated into the parade of shops on the west side of the small high street. There's a multi storey car park which I found very poorly signposted as to how to escape to the shops! I was however entertained by the very northern accent of the lift 'voices'. The car park lift unexpectedly dumped me into the Sainsburys supermarket and on the way back to my car, Sainsburys had shut and I had to walk all the way round onto the main road to get into the car park. There are about 15-20 shops, all major high street chain stores with a few local chains in the smaller shop units. Nothing inspiring and particularly memorable Free parking after 6pm is the best thing to say about this shopping centre

Their are 19 shops although three at the moment are vacant. It has a Next, Dorothy Perkins, WH Smith, Boots, Sainsbury's, Carphone Warehouse, Costa Coffee, Clinton Cards and Stead & Simpson along with Timpson, Munch and Holland & Barrett. Purrfect Pet is a huge shop offering everything for pets and wild birds and there is even a good barber, Company Man and Thomas Cook for your travel needs. So all in all a good useful shopping centre. There are lifts in Sainsbury's but also the Centre itself has two other lifts. The car park has great big arrowed signs on the walls in blue showing a clear way to the shops and it offers overnight parking for people wishing to stay in the Travelodge. The town has a market every Thursday and Sat and there is good disabled access with a Shopmobility scheme on the 2nd floor of the car park every Tues and Thurs. Leatherhead also boasts plenty of places to dine out and as it is on the edge of the beautiful Surrey Hills there is some wonderful countryside to enjoy with pleasant walks along the River Mole. Leatherhead hosts several events each year which take place in the town and in the Swan Shopping Centre - these are St George's Day festival, The Annual Duck Race, Halloween and a Xmas Festival. So not a bad place to have on your doorstep.

I'd seen a couple of snippets from the film and was excited to see the whole thing, particularly as it was being shown in Brewer Street mulit-storey car park of all places. We arrived early and although it was a bit shit to be kept outside in the rain it was well worth the wait, despite getting rather wet. As we entered we walked down a flight of stairs and through a door into a very 'non-carpark' looking space with a popping bubble wrap carpet. The free badges and drinks vouchers went down a treat and we began to congregate in front of the projected screen. It seemed that we were going to have to park our bums on the floor until a series of cardboard boxes began expanding with inflating air beds breaking out of them! So we got comfy and the film began. The film was about a robot/computer love story and it was really good. I'd love to know if it's going to be available for everyone to see soon but in the mean time check out the trailer below. Every Tuesday morning there is a local market held in the centre which sells food, clothing, household goods and many more items at affordable prices. The car park has plenty of car park spaces and even if that does become full you have plenty of off street parking, and even if you don't travel by car there is a bus stop directly outside the centre. I've only visited this gym in the mornings but considering I'm there early in the morning the staff are friendly, welcoming and even can crack a joke! The gym prides itself on the security and cleanliness as there are security cameras everywhere and a cleaner who is always whizzing around with her trolley cleaning. I swear in one corridor I must of seen 6 cameras on the ceiling! The changing room is clean, has several long mirrors and small and large lockers with access to the showers which has three assisted showers as well as 8 cubical showers, and this is just the women's changing room. I can imagine the men's changing room is like for like. There is a large hall with is divided when classes are booked, mainly used for badminton , tennis, even trampolining. There's a exercise room where they normally hold aerobic, body pump, yoga, Pilates, Zumba classes. There are a lot more classes but you will need to check out the timetable on the website. Then there is the gym. It is smaller than you expect when you see the size of the building but you have a view of the car park and their exercise machinery is slowly modernising to the standard of their other centres. I've never had an issue fighting to get into machinery as the gym is never busy and the regulars that go there is a wide range of ages and all at different levels of fitness! So don't worry it's not your typically tanned and toned gym goers and it's also not a fashion parade, you can feel comfortable here working off a sweat and stretching in your Lycra! The free weights section is small but there are a good number of different exercise machines and a small area for stretching.
