These days, it's on the small medium size with a House of Fraser being the only department store. There are mainly chain stores, my most visited being Marks & Spencer and a recently opened Boots, which took over the entire area of the previously open air Kings Shade Walk. There are a few quirky shops like Cook, which offers high qualitty ready prepared meals. The Ashley Centre car park doubles as the town car park in the evenings and is convenient for the Epsom Playhouse and nearby restaurant row, South Street. It's A-OK but no more than that.

This is one of my more frequented shops in the Ashley Centre. There's something reassuring about…read morethe familiar Marks & Spencer sign - although their goods are likely to be manufactured abroad, I still associate the brand with quality. The shop can be conveniently accessed from inside the mall or from outside. The food section is on the ground floor and this sector has always performed well for M&S. The food tastes good and they're also trying hard to provide good value with their whole dinner for 2 for £10 offer. Upstairs, you'll find the menswear section. My only gripe is that quite often, it can be hard to find clothing in the more popular sizes. Not sure why stock levels of more median sizes are better maintained. I've also used their flower ordering service - once again, very efficient and recipients always appreciate any gift with M&S on the outside.

It is very new as the razor dispenses the balm that looks like foam as I shave. They did not have any on the shelf but an assistant did go to check if any had arrived by going to the store room and coming back to me. Thats what I call super service super people. Not their fault that it was so new their HQ had not spotted a gap in the market. The can itself dipenses the liquid directly into the razor housing. Too techincal for the stock buyers to understand? Not rocket science or maybe it is?
