The appetizers (calamari, mozza sticks, and wings) were great! Very solid choices although personally the wings (medium) were a little too sweet for us. Service was ok but the waitress did seem a bit stressed. The mains, however, were a bit disappointing. The burgers were just ok, my halloumi in the halloumi salad was burnt (although the salad itself was great), and the children's cheese sandwich was also burnt. The fish & chips were very oily. Usually I really want to like and rate local establishments well as I am a local myself, but burnt food is a no-no and unfortunately with kids I don't really have the time to ask for a remake. Great vibes for a good beer though.

Set ourselves up with a West Avenue Heritage dry cider and ordered a Poke Tuna Bowl and a Beef Dip. First of all, the service was excellent. Warm, friendly and genuine. I even spilled a whole glass of cider and they replaced it free of charge. The food was very good and we would certainly come back. Highly recommend this for a wonderful lunch.

The place has a classy feel, with a space that's thoughtfully laid out and comfortable to sit in. Really loved the overall vibe. That, along with attentive service and solid food, made for a great experience. Everything was above standard, and I appreciated not just the quality and portion size, but also how fair the pricing was. Only small note is that the salad on the side felt a bit generic. Nothing wrong with it, but didn't quite match the level of the rest of the meal. The Chicken Chowder, on the other hand, was a total surprise. Hearty, comforting, and just full of that savory kind of goodness. It was so well done, I honestly wish they served it in XXL size. Overall, it's a lovely spot I'd be happy to come back to. Feels like the kind of place that gets the little things right without trying too hard.

I got the cornmeal trout and chips and my partner got the cheeseburger. We both agreed that the fries here were absolutely delicious! They were perfectly fried in my opinion and had that salty tasty crunch. I think the trout was alright for me personally. Maybe because I'm just so used to fried haddock when I get fish and chips. The service was great and our server was very attentive. I will say I think the ambiance is quaint and cute but I think I was just a bit thrown off by a few minor things (i.e., water was lukewarm, the chair I sat on had a few crumbs, etc.) nothing huge and probably doesn't bother anyone but me. I'd go again for the fries and to try out something from the brunch menu.

Location/Service Stumbled upon this place while doing a day…read moretrip. This spot is right by the river with patio setup in the summer. Inside is very big and can accommodate large groups (best to reserve in advance). You can also sit by the bar if you like. Typical bar and grill setup - I like the little pieces of decor to spruce up the vibe. Staff were very nice, I'd really like the bartender who gave recommendations for first timers and explain the menu. Food Menu has a lot of typical bar & grill items, but with a Newfoundland twists since it's Newfoundland style. So definitely try dishes that are more known on the east end - like Newfie Fries, Lobsters, Cod au Gratin, Newfie Steak Dinner. The steak is a maple leaf bologna and not you're typical meat - more of the saltier and drier side. Newfie fries is a type of dressing that uses bread crumbs and yellow onions - again more of the saltier side, but it matches quite well with gravy as a poutine. Food pricing overall is very standard and not overly expensive. Portion sizes were very generous, had to pack it to go. Overall a good find if you're in the neighbourhood and traveling, great to explore and learn more about Newfoundland food.

This was the first I've been there since the changeover. It's a big restaurant and they have good food. Today we both had the banquet burger, and it was quite good. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was the best, but it was good. The menu is small, but it offers all the standard comfort food you'd expect from such a place. There were only two other parties dinning in the 40-plus table establishment, and as a result our server was attentive and the food was served quickly. I wonder how that might change if it were busy. I will say that our server was very cheerful and pleasant, which made it a nice experience. Then there was the mystery of the empty bowl. On our table was placed a small, white, ceramic bowl. It was the same as the bowl used to hold the sugar packets for coffee or tea, but this one was empty. I looked around and there was a small, white, empty bowl on every table. I was perplexed. I commented to my father that maybe it was a tip jar. He joked saying that it was empty, so maybe we should go elsewhere. As the meal wore on, I became increasingly worried about the meaning behind this empty bowl. Why was it there? Why a white bowl? Why not green, or brown, or whatever other colour is fashionable for bowls these days? What were we meant to do with it? Did it have a deeper existential meaning? Was it the owners symbolic commentary on the nature of the universe? A view thus imposed on the unsuspecting diner, most of whom would just think; "hey, an empty bowl." My head was spinning. I began to wonder if I was losing my mind. Imagine that, being brought to the brink of sanity (or is that insanity) by the presence of a small, empty, white, ceramic bowl. I again commented on the situation and my father insisted that it was there to hold creamers for those cups of coffee and tee, for which the sugar waited. I was dubious...it didn't make any sense. In the end, I declined to ask the waitress why there was an empty bowl on every table. I figured that the mystery had taken me places I hadn't dreamed possible, and whatever her answer, a mind cannot be un-blown, once it is blown. We gave her a good tip.
