I found Kelly's Auto Mechanix reading reviews in Yelp, just as you are now. I had only been in the desert a few years, but needed a mechanic who could work on a new to me used vehicle, as I was not going to go back to the dealership. I have owned cars for nearly five decades, and sadly honesty and integrity are not always present with people who work on our cars. Kelly is the exception to the rule. He is the best mechanic I have had the pleasure to have service my vehicle, and those of my friends. He has integrity and will be straight and honest with you. His prices are reasonable. If he gives you a window of time in which your car will be ready, your car will be ready within that window. Or he will let you know. He is very communicative. He's a gem, and you'll think you are in Germany or Switzerland, his shop is so impeccably clean. read more

Just had my 13 year old Honda evaluated by Kelly at Kelly's Auto Mechanix. What a difference from the former mechanic at Chevron, as well as the dealership in Cathedral City. Kelly reviewed all the details about my car problems and we went through them individually. He repaired my worn out back brakes and showed me the old parts that came off and why they needed to be replaced. I originally took my car to the dealer in CC who explained (with their stupid video!) all the things that were wrong with my car and what needed to be replaced or fixed, when I just came in for an oil change! How stupid of them to try to sell me things I didn't need. The one item that did concern me was the back brakes. Not only would it have cost me more at the dealership, I would have had to wait for many hours for them to contact me with another video with things that need to be replaced. Kelly never did this. He said my car was sound, but it did need rear brakes. He called me before he did any work and gave me alternatives to my repair, whether I wanted to replace the rotors (it was my choice). I haven't had such a good mechanic since I left LA. I will recommend him to anyone who will listen to me. He's honest, fair and reasonably priced, and he's not a relative I'm trying to promote. I recently purchased a 1969 Chevy C10 pickup truck. It stopped running a day later :). I had it towed to Kelly's Auto Mechanix after a referral and I'm extremely happy I did. Kelly is an amazing mechanic and person. He quickly diagnosed and fixed issue and was very fair in his pricing. He also didn't hesitate when I asked if he could help with a carrier for shipment who will pickup my truck as I live out of town. And he tested and swapped my battery at no cost. First, the cleanest garage I've ever seen! Secondly, Kelly doesn't deserve 5 stars; he deserves six! He very carefully explained to me repairs that had to be done and even showed me a video to help! His price was very reasonable for what he completed. You will be lucky to find Kelly and use his services. Very fair, honest, organized and helpful. I am NOT easily impressed. After shopping around to have the timing belt etc replaced on my Honda CRV I was referred to Kelly. I got quotes all over the map many of which needed to keep my car for days upon end. Kelly gave me an extremely fair price for all of the work and completed it within a day. We took our 2001 Honda Civic (with 137K plus miles on it) to Kelly when a strange noise started under the hood. I was flabergasted when we got to his shop = it is THE cleanest, most orderly mechanics shop (it's too nice to be called "garage") I've ever seen! Kelly is very soft-spoken, wears gloves while working on a vehicle, and after I explained what the problem was, he listened to the engine, and gave a "Preliminary" diagnosis. A day later, he called with an estimate and we set a time to bring the car in. Once he got into it, he discovered a different more expensive problem. He explained the problem in detail and the solution. He had the car ready for pick-up when he promised, showed me exactly what parts had failed, and even brought it all in for less than his original estimate! I have a 1998 Buick Park Avenue that developed an engine problem on my way to the Palm Springs airport. I managed to limp it into the park lot. I had to head back to Canada and left the car there. I did some research online and Kelly's name came up. After reading his reviews, decided to give him a call and set up an appointment upon my return. I had the car towed in to Kelly's. I received a call with in an hour, he had discovered the problem, explained what it was and what needed to be done. He had the part later in the day and the car was repaired by early the next morning. Kelly's shop is spotless and extremely well organized. This told me that the man in anal, in a good way and would most likely do his repairs in the same manner. His work was fast, correct and not over priced. We've been going to Kelly's auto mechanix for over 20 years. Kelly is a remarkably talented and exceptionally honest mechanic. His charges are extremely competitive, perhaps too low given how thorough and uniform the quality of his work is. He will tell you if he believes work needs to be done. If he does not do a particular repair, we've found the people he recommends to be well qualified. He has always been pleasant to deal with. In short, he cannot be recommended too highly.
