The Family Fare convenience store is a lot nicer and a lot bigger than the old Petro Express, which was a tiny little store. Unlike Petro Express, which was more of a "shack" corner store, this Family Fare is more on the scale of a Sheetz or QuikTrip. It opened sometime between July 2018 and June 2019. The BP gas station has eight pumps which is actually less than before - Marathon had 10. However, the overall site is more spacious, open, and clean. The pumps are naturally nicer because they're BP brand, which is a more expensive brand, and they're newer. Ads play on the display while you pump. There are at least three ways you can save money on gas here: (1) BPme Rewards, (2) Harris Teeter Fuel Points, and (3) GetUpside. I used GetUpside to get $0.20 off per gallon for premium gas during my visit. The discount amounts vary when using GetUpside. If you've never used it before, get the app and use my invite code DANIEL66482 to save even more money. I sound like an ad, but there's no catch. It's free savings on gas. You just have to jump through the hoops of finding the app in your app store, downloading/installing it, signing up, and "checking in" before you pay to get the savings. Family Fare is a regional chain with currently 25 locations (franchises), mostly in North Carolina. The company also has a presence in Virginia. There used to be a Burger King in the lot next door. These days, you'll see sellers with pop-up shops / canopies there.

There is a new employee…read morethat parks in the only handicapped space the store has and that is inconvenient for any handicapped people that truly need that spot. This person could park next to that spot and still be just as easy to walk in. It's when it's busy and all those other spots are taken where that will cause an issue for a truly handicapped person. There is no excuse for an employee to take over this spot for a whole shift whether they are handicapped or not which I don't believe this person is bc they appear to move around just fine. But that's beside the point. They have other spot to choose from when they first open the store. No reason to take up the only handicapped spot provided by the store.

It's next door to Westchester Center, the shopping center with Food Lion, CVS, and Family Dollar. Shell generally has high gas prices, but those high prices can be offset for free if you use the app GetUpside. Depending on the day, you can get varying amounts of "cash back" from your Shell gas purchases by using the app. I put "cash back" in quotes because the cash back comes in the form of gift cards from vendors like Amazon, Lowe's, Home Depot, Target, and Walmart. Use my referral code DANIEL66482, if you want an extra $0.15 per gallon cash back (one-time use) and an extra $0.01 per gallon cash back for every gallon you buy in the future. I sound like an ad, but there really are no gimmicks. Enjoy the free savings while they last (I'm not sure how GetUpside makes money). This Shell station has eight pumps and it's fine -- just your run-of-the-mill Shell station. I used pump #8 and had no issues. Paper towels were stocked and my receipt printed clearly. I filled up on "Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline," but after about 20 years driving the same car consuming premium fuel mainly from QuikTrip and Costco, I've noticed no difference nor needed to have any work done to my car because of the gas I used. As long as I fill up on premium (what's recommended for my car), I've had zero issues. A plus for this Shell is the aforementioned attached McDonald's. It's got a double drive-thru.

No issues with my card processing and a quick gas up. I decided on a car wash for $9.99 and the receipt generated the code. The car wash is located off to the left and is a separate structure. The code worked without a hitch and the garage door lifted. I was very impressed with newer equipment and a great Wash price point. They offer an upper level too! Without a visit inside I feel comfortable with a solid 4 stars. I would swing by again if in the area.

I've even had my car towed 90+ miles to get it here over another random shop. They are a little lite on the counter which runs into some communication lapse occasionally but I want my car worked on well, not quick and rushed. They have never hesitated to bring out the malfunctioning part and walk me through how it failed in the system. They are also are never afraid to tell me I have a couple more miles to roll on and to just plan for my next visit. Honest and fair priced mechanics. They offer different services (see photo) with a range of prices. Recently the prices went up a bit (as everything else has) but still well worth the money! They work great as a team and have always done a great job. There is a small waiting room inside and a picnic table and bench's outside. During busy times you may wait an hour but again... worth it!!! Don't forget to bring enough cash for a tip! They deserve it!

Approximately two and a half hours later, my check engine light came on. I returned to the shop the same day, and they scanned the code, which came back as P0430 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold). What is concerning is not just the timing, but the response I received. I was told it was "just a coincidence," and no further effort was made to inspect the vehicle. Given that this issue appeared immediately after service, I expected at minimum a basic check of components that may have been accessed or affected during the inspection, such as oxygen sensor connections or anything near the exhaust system. Instead, the concern was dismissed without any attempt to rule out whether something may have been inadvertently disturbed during service. As a customer, that lack of follow-through is frustrating and does not reflect thorough or responsible service. Additionally, my overall experience raised concerns about professionalism and honesty. During check-in, I was told that I would need new wiper blades in order for my vehicle to pass inspection. I was initially quoted $14.99 for the blades, but then the associate realized the correct length I needed was actually priced at $20. I was told he would still honor the $14.99 price, but that the receipt would show the 24-inch blades at the higher price. Being told one thing while knowingly documenting something different is concerning. Given that this kind of falsehood occurred, it raises questions about what else may not have been handled correctly during my service, including whether the correct oil was used or if something else may have been impacted. During check-in, I was also encouraged to leave a five-star review due to the number of one-star reviews the business has received. A specific complaint was even mentioned about the business not having a working phone. However, a phone number is printed on receipts, which would reasonably lead customers to believe they can contact the business by phone. That disconnect is misleading. While waiting for my vehicle, I observed staff engaging in unprofessional behavior, including using profanity and focusing more on social interactions than customer service. After paying $163, even with a $25 off coupon, I am now in a position where I still have to consult with a reputable mechanic to resolve an issue that was not present when I brought my vehicle in, and clearly was not present when the business passed the vehicle for a state inspection. I understand that the mechanical issue may ultimately be unrelated. However, the timing alone warranted a closer look, and I should not have had to push for that level of care. Combined with the lack of professionalism and questionable business practices, this experience has left me needing to seek a second opinion elsewhere, something that could have been avoided with more thorough service and accountability.

I will admit that the claim to 10 minute oil changes seems dubious but you can pretty consistently get out in under 20 minutes unless they're busy. Inspections can be slow because they only use one of three lanes for that, so you can have a line of cars waiting for inspections with two empty bays. The customer lounge is minimal, but at least there's chairs and air conditioning, and really you're not here long anyways. I've never had issues with them trying to do shady upselling like some places (air filters/wipers/etc without even checking.) All around quick and professional service and a good choice.
