Review Highlights - Kellock's Eatery

I had the fish & chips, hot & crispy with a garlic tartar sauce and for dessert the peanut butter cream pie was amazing.

Nice local pub with great food, great home brewed drinks. I have been here a number of times since…read moremoving to kentville and have always enjoyed my meals. The ambiance is very comfortable, you can seat yourself at any open space you'd like. Their food is good, their burgers are really good, I quite enjoy their fried chicken sandwich. Their fish and chips are also really good, with big pieces of fish and crispy fries. The nachos are really good, made the mistake of ordering the "regular" size and it was too big for just 2 of us, but it was for sure tasty with fresh ingredients. We also like their deep fried pepperoni with the mustard dipping sauce it comes with. Another part I really enjoy with this place is their homebrewed beers. I personally really enjoy the blueberry beer they have (I believe during the summertime) and the raven ale. You can get a growler of their beers to take home and enjoy and it is very affordable, I believe $15 for a growler of the raven ale. Parking is street parking, but if the streets are full, which it rarely is, there is the town parking lot not too far from this place. Oh, and I should add, this place also has a pretty decent arcade/games room upstairs and a banquet hall to be rent or host events like a comedy show. Service is great, the servers are very pleasant and the food comes out quick and hot.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Absolutely horrible experience…read more We arrived around 10:30 am on a Wednesday. There was no one else in the restaurant. The two ladies working seemed like they didn't want to be there. They acted like we weren't customers and they didn't need to serve us. They acted like we were some sort of burden to them. We were seated and then they never came back. We were seated in the bar area and they were standing at the bar chatting so loudly we could hear their entire conversation about their lives and how miserable they were. We had to ask for coffee. It took forever to come. We had to tell them we were ready to order because it seemed like they didn't want to take our order. I ordered the chicken and waffle. It was disgusting. Zero flavor. I don't even know how that is possible. I added salt and it still was tasteless. My husband ordered the coconut French toast. He liked it. But it looked like it was on very thin sandwich bread. My mom ordered the breakfast sandwich. It had no flavor and it was cold. The potatoes were cold and dry. Would absolutely never come back here and would not recommend to anyone.

I was searching for a good seafood chowder within walking distance of the cruise port. I chose…read moreBritt's, and I was glad I did. The Maritime chowder was fantastic. It was full of seafood-salmon, shrimp, haddock, and 2 prosciutto wrapped scallops sitting on top. I would definitely make it a point to head to Britt's if I am in that port again.

If you want fries with your meal instead of Mashed potatoes...you will be delighted, as they are home cut fries, and are fantastic. The food choices are many, and there is always a daily special on the board. Fish and chips (of course) is my favorite, and they do it right at this spot! My wife likes the pan fried haddock, which is also good. Only down side is that they don't serve alcohol...but there are few few Pubs just up the street if you need and after dinner drink! Hope this is helpful.

The home fries are largish, somewhat ununwieldy chunks of potatoes. They were cooked too long which made them bitter and so hot that my s/o burned her tongue on first bite. Usually I don't complain about hot food but i draw the line at injury. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly and waitress kept swinging by to see if we needed anything.Students started pouring in just as we were finishing up. With the low price not surprised it is popular with University crowd. You can't beat the price at $6.50 for the breakfast, but I wouldn't mind paying a couple extra bucks for some homemade touches like Valley preserves and fresh bread. Nothing about place suggests cafe too me; this place is a diner through and through. Next time hopefully will be able to find someplace a little more special when in Wolfville.

R&B Kitchen - Chicken and waffles

R&B Kitchen

When Halloween came around and my wife and I were looking for some easy eats before the onslaught…read moreof trick-or-treaters, admittedly, R&B Kitchen was not our first choice. Unfortunately, many other people had a similar first choice as us - pizza - and 40 demoralizing, failed calls to Yeah Yeahs nudged us toward our backup plan. Ordering was easy on Skip, with about ten options to choose from. The offerings are mainly Caribbean - oxtail and jerk chicken-based dishes figure prominently - as well as some Southern influences. We ordered a mix of things to try as much as possible, going for the jerk chicken, ox tail, and Canadian loaded mac and cheese. Our order was ready very quickly, barely longer than the drive to get it. Even with said drive, we probably got our food an hour quicker than a slammed pizza place would have been. It's hard to say which dish was the clear winner, as as all were well executed, but the loaded mac and cheese got the most oohs and ahhs. Topped with a hefty dose of Brothers pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, mushrooms and green pepper, it was like a works pizza on mac and cheese, and it definitely worked! The jerk chicken had a really good pop of flavour from its complex mix of savoury seasonings, including a zesty heat that definitely made itself known, but didn't set off any smoke detectors. The meat was deftly cooked as well, with the thigh and two drums tender but not dry and overcooked. A generous serving of rice and peas, coleslaw and cornbread rounded out a container that was on the edge of needing further structural support! My choice was the ox tail - I love the fatty, beefy mix of meat and sauce, and the pinwheel-like tail bones are weird and fun to me. R&B's ox tail was a very good rendition, checking every box. Some very large beans showed up to bulk up the dish even more, and rice and peas soaked up all the saucy goodness. R&B likely cheats a bit with their cornbread and adds flour, but it was light, fluffy and delicious, so hard to complain about. On my next time darkening their doorway, I was dining solo and opted for the BBQ ribs. When you pick up a takeout container and it's got some heft to it, you know you're in for a hearty meal, and while this dish might not check a lot of boxes on Canada's Food Guide, you're not going to be hungry afterward! Three large ribs were nestled on top of a heap of mac and cheese, with a dark glaze that was savoury and sweet - but not too sweet. The ribs were meaty, and bites came away in easy chunks, signaling a spot on cook. Not to be outdone, the baked mac and cheese was well-executed and while not as over-the-top as the loaded version, it was still a great example of this comfort food classic. The green beans were a tasty surprise because I didn't know that they not only had garlic in them, but they had a *lot* of garlic in them. Vampires take heed! A large chunk of cornbread completed the meal with a golden brown crust on top, and pleasant crumb. It wasn't quite as fluffy as a cornmeal-only cornbread, but I can't begrudge them some wheat flour to help hold things together. Consider this review a song of praise, because R&B Kitchen is hitting all the right notes, and next time we order, they'll be second fiddle to no one.
