Love Keller's meats! It's been our go to butcher for years. Earlier this week we went in to get some ground beef and there wasn't enough out. We asked if they had more and they said yes but their " meat grinder" was at lunch for two hours. So we left. Went back in today. Once again, they were out by of ground beef in the front. Fortunately their "meat grinder" was in but I had to wait for a bit. This hasn't happened to us ever until this week. Maybe short staffed?? They did start a numbering system for customer service which is great but I think it's an adjustment for them. Yea, I know I can call in my order but I don't always think to do that. In the past they've always had meat out. Hopefully this is a temporary issue. read more

My wife wanted the best sandwich meats for our family Christmas party, so we went to the Keller's Coors location. When we walked in we were hit with a very strong ammonia fish odor. Very off-putting. No one was at the front of the store. We found our way to the back counter. After about five minutes a young man came out and asked what we needed. My wife said, "We need some sliced meats for a sandwich platter". The man went to the back for a minute and came out with a piece of scratch paper and pen. "Yes, we would like 1lb. of roast beef, 1lb. of ham and 1lb. of turkey for a sandwich platter", my wife said. He seemed a bit confused by our order, but began writing it down. He then asked, "Do you want smoked turkey"? "Oh yes", we said. I asked how thick their sandwich cut was and he replied, "Regular sandwich cut". I figured, okay this is Keller's, they certainly know what that is. We will have this ready in two days. That was fine as we knew they were very busy this time of year. I was excited when my wife picked up the order and returned home. I took the meat out to cut it up to fit the rolls we had. All of the three packages had meat sliced at over a quarter inch thick. That's sandwich sliced? The roast beef was very dry with no color to it. The ham was NOT ham, but some other pork cut with little pork taste and also very dry. The turkey was NOT smoked, but at least had good flavor and moisture. I was very disappointed considering Keller's reputation. Two notes: My ex-wife worked for Keller's in the 80s. She would bring home some of the best meats I had ever tasted. Secondly, a good friend of mine was the head chef at a well known sea food restaurant here in town. He once told me, "If you ever go to buy fresh fish and you smell ammonia when you walk in, turn around and walk out!" I am so disappointed with the service we got and the meat we ordered, I cannot see ever going back to Keller's. read more

So, last year, Christmas 2024, I pre-ordered a Prime Rib Roast. I received the confirmation email, and went to pick it up on the date selected (at time of order). When I arrived, they didn't have my order. Yes, the cut me a roast, but instead if being in and out in 10 minutes, it took about 35-40 minutes. You may not think that time isn't a big deal, but it put me behind on a very tight schedule. So, this year, for Thanksgiving, I had to work, but we (family) still wanted to full meal. I pre-ordered a meal. Again, when I arrived, no meal. It turns out they sold it to someone else. About 30-35 minutes later I was out the door. Okay, they made it right. I get home, and the website said to put everything in the oven to reheat. I set the oven for 350°, removed the plastic wrap and wrapped/sealed in foil, and set the timer for 45 minutes. Ugh! The dressing was dry and bland. The sweet potatoes were grainy and bland, the potatoes ..... well no one ate those as it was like wallpaper paste. The gravy was kinda okay (heated in a pot on the stove top and I added seasonings). The ham..... oh gosh the ham. Before it even went it the oven it was dry and weird-grey looking, so I added a bit of ham broth to the tin and drizzled some honey, then sealed in foil. Nope, still bad. Weird texture, and kinda grey, and dry dry dry, even after it had somewhat absorbed to ham broth. With all that said, I will stop in for their fresh meats and poultry once in a while. I will just never, ever pre-order any holiday meals or meats. read more

First off when you enter the building it has this harsh smell of seafood/poultry. The building isn't properly ventilated and is very off putting . Next I will never come here again. I got ground beef and after I cooked and ate it I was instantly sick and had the most terrible food poisoning I've ever experienced. I had to go to the hospital because my fluids were severely low and I couldn't stop throwing up. I wasn't the only one to experience this because right after eating our dinner my boyfriend also started to feel terrible and he also got food poisoning. I don't know what is going on over there but there needs to be something done about this ! I have never fallen ill in a matter of minutes and spend a night in the hospital because of ground meat . We have shopped at Keller's since the 1980s, though less frequently since the change in ownership. After today, we shall not return. The store at midday was empty, and their stock was low. We nonetheless proceeded with our purchases, which included chicken thighs. This evening, opening the package, I was assailed by a strong ammonia odor: bad meat! How could the clerk pack such obviously bad meat! Are their noses not working? We tossed the bad meat. Now I worry about the ground turkey and other meats that went to the freezer straight away. There have been a few other problems the last few years, since the new owners took over, but this was egregious. After more than 40 years, Keller's has lost us as customers. read more

Profound disappointment. Put in a custom beef order on Friday December 19. Watched the employee write it down in a spiral notebook along with my name and phone number. Old school, but whatever. Arrived today to pick up. Followed instructions at door to get a number, discovered meat counter doesn't use the number system, just have to stand in line. Ok, then why the terse sign on the door? Get to counter. They can't find my order. Talk to a bunch of employees. Not only is my order not ready, but they have no idea it even ever existed. Watched employee go through the notebook quickly as he told me there was nothing about it. Perhaps take time to read it carefully, please. No offer to make things right. I guess I'll just come back after Christmas. Or go somewhere that has systems that work. read more

I called Kellers to ask if they had ground veal. "Yes, in our frozen section" both shops (on Menaul, and on Coors) told me they had it. I drove 10 miles to the one on Coors (2 miles closer.) Walked in and asked where I could find their ground veal. "On bottom shelf in glass case two from the window" the woman behind the meat counter told me. okay - I looked and looked and finally asked another guy who was checking people out. " oh, we don't have any ground veal". I told him I had just talked to two different employees that told me you did. He had the nerve to tell me I was talking to the shop on Menaul. I told him I had just talk to his woman butcher behind the counter. He looked at me like I was nuts - well we don't have any. What do you say to that?! I decided it wasn't worth the effort to explain to him that I could become a good paying customer if his employees would actually try to listen to their customers questions and give them the courtesy of a correct answer. But after that visit I decided it wasn't worth my time. read more

My father had been a customer of Keller's since the 1970's when he introduced me to them in 2011 when I moved here. I patronized Kellers for 10+ years while living here. I've been gone now since 2021 but Keller's was first on my list while visiting as we were wanting some good ribeyes for dinner. How disappointed we were. After standing in line at the meat counter and staff deliberately ignoring us and assisting 3 customers who arrived after we did, we finally walked out. Patronized Kellers again in early May 23 and wondered why I had not made the trip more often from Santa Fe. I am going to rectify that going forward. They just have some of the best meats - fresh and cured - available anywhere, as well as quality coffees, marinades, spices, pastas, pasta sauces. Kellers is without reservation my fav grocery store in NM. It is hard to offhand think of any food item not available here that is available in the large chain stores. I have shopped at Keller's farm store for many years. I first became acquainted with them several years ago when I was doing a radio talk show and they were a sponsor on the station. I had the opportunity of doing a commercial for them. However, it was always my policy to never do a commercial unless I visited the sponsor first and tried the product or service for myself. I tried many of Keller's products over the years and was thoroughly impressed. They are an independent grocery store owned and operated by a small family who takes their business very seriously. One year, I orderd a prime rib that was so tender, I barely needed a knife. Another time, I got a Thanksgiving turkey. What pleased me the most is their meat products have no chemicals or preservatives in them. They also offered a number of house-made products. Everything was and STILL IS FRESH and of the highest quality. They Pride themselves on doing that. You can't go wrong at Keller's. I highly recommend them . I urge you to try them for yourself. We go here about once a month and stock up on chicken and pork mostly that goes into the freezer. Their meats are generally noticeably tastier than what you get at regular big box grocery store. Staff is fairly friendly. The butchers are knowledgeable. We are glad to have them here on the west side, especially on the holidays. read more

we shop here at least once a month and buy in bulk lol. our favorites are their beef and chicken. we also love the spicy crabcakes! staff is incredible. they will cut meat any way you want. they will even take the rib rack skin off. yay! A butcher is a buyer's experience. you're not buying plastif meat on plastic trays. you will taste the difference. It's a nice store and is well organized. They do have fresh meats and the prices seem reasonable. On my initial (and only visit to date) I found the packaged shelf items to be quite expensive. I would say the prices are in line with those of Whole Foods - which is out of my price range. I did pick up on item on sale - a shampoo. I would come and browse again but I can't afford to be a regular customer. With that said, I applaud independent grocers and I can appreciate that they have to charge a bit more than chains like WF. read more

I will not name restaurants. last couple of months, my pickup orders, the food has overflowing with salt. It's become very costly for me! I've had to throw my food in the trash. In the past, most restaurants did not salt their food because individuals salted their food before they eat, I'm not one of them. Last year, I had one teeny request for management: please replace/update your cash registers with modern doo-dads that could speed up the pay process. Soon after, Keller's responded, saying they were planning to replace the registers before the holidays. Guess what? That actually happened. And I'm very, very happy to report that I now shop regularly -- weekly, if not daily -- I haven't experienced long lines to check out, and call me crazy but it seems like the morale of staff has really improved. Just before Thanksgiving a woman behind the meat counter was extremely rude claimed I would only be leaving the store with one Turkey then said I had ordered three. I ordered two. And let's not forget those domestic and imported cheeses. This is also my spot to pick up my favorite raw protein powder mix from Garden of Life, it's truly the best! I went to Keller to get a couple racks of ribs. There was an older lady in maroon by the pork section, so I went over and tried to get her attention. She half looked over at me and then got back to what she was doing. After a couple min, I tried going over to the beef counter to get someone to help me. Two employees in white were walking into the freezer. The 2nd employee looked at me and then went into the freezer. I figured it probably wasn't their job, so waited for another employee to come by. A younger employee in maroon walked towards my area from the deli section and looked at me and then she headed to the back. I tried looking for a ticket system or anything else I was missing to get served, but couldn't find anything, so I walked back to the older lady by the pork section to try again and get her attention. As I got to her she instead walked over and started chatting with a customer that was being helped by another employee. At that point, it was obvious that I had come at a time that wasn't convenient for them and left. I want to support this place as it is local, but whenever I come here I find myself having to track down a counter person and/or cashier. It's too big a hassle for a business that obviously doesn't prioritize customer service, especially when there's other options for the products I want. I won't be returning. read more

I've purchased beef halves and quarters from this store for years. Last time I decided to stock my freezer I didn't have enough room for a quarter so I purchased one of their freezer packages. NEVER AGAIN! The club steaks and sirloin were nothing but marble and rancid; even some of the strip steaks were bad! The only decent meat in the entire package was the ground beef and even then it was so finely ground up it's not very desirable to cook with; expensive hamburger since the package was over $500.00. My experience here is amazing and wonderful after several months working at my nearby job close to your store, I stopped getting my meats and poultry from major grocery stores and elsewhere and now this is my new favorite store to get your meats especially they are no artificial preservatives, no antibiotics, and other acids. If it weren't for Keller's and if it weren't for me working at my nearby job right now it would've been totally a whole different story and I'm glad I chose this to be my new place to get your meats and other goodies there. Mike, Marge and the Keller's team did a great job with their preparation and presentation of a whole roast pig--complete with an apple in its mouth! They were flexible enough to use my own spice mix (based on Italian porchetta) and the result was succulent, tender and delicious. I am sorry to say that after 20 plus years of shopping each week at Keller's that I am not returning. The Keller's sold their business and for the past 4 months it has been on a down hill slide. First sign was none of the regular employees who had been there for years work there any more. The new employees have no idea about meat, particular special cuts, etc. They really need to be trained on customer service. It is also frustrating having to constantly tell the new employees how to do their job. Very simple things like chicken goes in a bag, not wrapped in butcher paper. Also, I can't tell you how frustrating it is to argue with the counter employee that a bistro filet is not the same as a filet mignon. Bistro comes from the shoulder and then the counter employee does not want to take the tenderloin back to the butcher to have a special cut. These new guys are a joke! If you are going to run a specialty meat shop, be an expert. It is also very noticeable how it is no longer busy on Saturday mornings like it once was. Customers are obviously taking their business elsewhere. The Keller's should not have allowed the new owners to use their name on the business. Many years of hard work establishing a family name that represented quality is becoming tarnished. Bye, bye Keller's. read more

I have gone to Keller's for years. Used to have best potato salad in town Is now half cooked with so much pepper cannot eat it. The Checkaslavian does not even have dressing .just uncooked potatoes bacon and pepper. Smells of rotten meat when you walk in store. Bought some which was brown next day and they told me was because they do not use artificial colors in it. Wrong, it was rotten. Will not go back again. read more

Asked for a thicker cut steak for bone in ribeyes so they went and cut some for us, four steaks, $121. Got home and unwrapped them and noticed there were ribs with our steaks packed separately. After I finished unpacking them, I realized they packed the bones separately because they fell off! So much for bone-in ribeyes right? Paying that much money for some steaks they should at least recut them or tell the customer that they fell off. Three stars because they'll probably taste alright even though bone-in taste better. The other annoying thing is the cashier keeps trying to sell you more things, like bbq sauce, rolls, bread, and tortillas. She seems to think tortillas go with everything. Anyway, won't go here again. I'll be going back to Nelson's Meats on old coors. Less hassle, good quality meat, and aren't trying to pull a fast one on you. read more

I had heard about Kellers for a while and figured it was just a butcher. Well, we finally checked it out for some memorial day grilling and found out it was actually a local farm (I guess we *should* have gotten that from "farm store"). Almost everything in the meat cabinets is from their farms that are close either in NM (Moriarty I think) or Colorado (I forget where but close). The staff were really helpful and able to tell us about the different types of meat such as grass fed and corn fed for chicken and beef. We were *really* happy to hear that their chicken is all free to roam (though not sure if exactly certified as "free range") and similarly for the beef. (We try to buy what is as humane as is reasonable given budget and availability). To top it all off, the prices were *really* good. Certainly more than, say, Smiths, but much less than Whole Foods. So if you're looking for local, low-price and high-quality meats, this seems to be the place. They will likely be our main meat supplier from now on! read more

You know how you find the perfect chicken breast to roast or grill, and then it shrinks to half it's size because it was all water? Never again let this happen to you! Keller's has got you covered. What you see is what you get here, and I have yet to be disappointed with my meat choices. I recommend their green chile turkey sausage, the ground buffalo, and the pork tenderloin! Their deli section and tomato sauce choices are pretty good, too. One last thing: Keller's is a great place to find local gems, including the most addicting snack I've ever come across: Timmy Krack Korn Puffs. Crunchy, puffy, savory (or sweet) delights. Post Thanksgiving, here's my review of this years Turducken. Picked up the Turducken on Wednesday, probably not the best day as they were super busy. Security guard hands you a number as you walk in, and then the waiting begins. When I ordered my meat, I didn't ask how much, I just knew this year I wanted a Turducken. I should have asked.... there was a bit of sticker shock, but after about 25 mins I was on my way with an 18 pound Turducken. When I got home, I did a little Turducken inspection. Tied up real nice, no stuffing, just meat and no instructions like I was promised. So Thanksgiving morning, I read on google it's about 20-25 mins per pound. So on a good day, this thing is going to take me 6 hours to roast. I set the oven, place my bird(s), say a quick prayer and walk away. I go to check at the 4 hour mark and oh crap! It's already done. I had to pull it out and let it sit for 2 hours before we ate. I have to be honest, when I carved it, the chicken and duck snuck out and because they leave the skin on, it's kind of a soggy mess. There wasn't a distinct flavor for each of the birds, they kind of meld together. Overall, it was an experience, but for the price, and the hassle, I might order online next year which I hear comes stuffed and with instruction. read more

When I called their store, they told me that ALL of their meat is organic and grassfed. That is a total lie. Also, when I went to their store, there were no signs in the meat department or on the meat I bought that said it was organic or grassfed. Their website says that their meat is 'natural', which is worthless as far as healthy meat. Natural meat means no processing standards at all, and the meat could have been given growth hormones, antibiotics and received grains that are tainted with glycophosphate. I am not buying from them again. If they really were organic and grassfed, it would say so on their website and on the packaging of the meats in the meat department. Organic and grassfed is something to brag about, but not natural! read more

I like Keller's as much as the next person. They've got a great selection of meats and they're local and friendly. My 3 year old probably puts it best, though when she says, "P.U.!!! This is where we get all our meats. Period, full stop, the end. All the meats! They have a fantastic selection and everything is such high quality. The prices are good, too - downright amazing, in fact, when you consider that the meats are well-sourced from local, sustainable farms; everything is preservative-free, too. From their turkey (you want to get your Thanksgiving turkey here... trust me), to their ground buffalo, to their bacon and sausages (which they make themselves), everything I've tried has been a winner. Great (local) eggs, too. The grocery store part of the store is small but has a decent selection of health foods, staples, and gluten-free items. Not too much produce, so I can't do all my shopping here, but that's fine - I get my produce elsewhere as this place is worth a second stop. They have some house-brand things like pasta sauce and BBQ sauce, and some gourmet grocery items, too. Oh, and excellent local honey (Moses brand) from right here in ABQ. Customer service is always top-notch too. Everyone who works here is friendly and welcoming. I am so grateful that Keller's is here! If this business ever closed it would be a real loss for Albuquerque. read more

Disappointed .. I gave always enjoyed kellers meats.. We purchased smiled turkey last year for our early thanksgiving .. We celebrate thd weekend before the resl say because we have mostly first responders in our family.. The smoked turkey was too dry so it was recommended to us by kellers to get the per roasted turkey ... We ordered two 8 lb precook end and boned turkey roasts to serve 24 people... No one ate thd first one .. So no use for this dry , dry and pretty tasteless turkey that cost us 75 bucks each.. Not acceptable ..don't even think about ordering these per cooked turkeys for your holiday dinner .. You too will be disappointed .. We would not feel right giving this meat to a homeless shelter..
