Medium amaretto walnut king cake. Thin and wimpy
    April G.

I used to be a huge fan of Keller's but it seems inflation has gotten the best of them. I purchased a medium amaretto walnut king cake (for $56) and upon pickup was very disappointed. The cake itself is tastes good, but is just tiny and wimpy and thin. In addition, they charged us $3 for the box! NOT worth the price or the drive (drove from Houston). Hopefully they fix the issue next year.

Every year I order my king cakes from Keller's. They're home. And they're the best. Miss me with those carnival donuts that I loved as a kid. And I could go the rest of my life without eating a traditional NO-style king cake again, either. But every Epiphany, you can put money on me being on the phone (no matter how many calls it takes to get through) with Keller's Downtown, placing my order for a couple of their cream cheese filled king cakes (one with pecans, one without). I have even turned this into a birthday tradition for a friend. On top of the deliciousness you can count on from Keller's, everyone I've ever encountered there, year after year, is beyond friendly- just like people from back home should be.

Keller's Bakery has reportedly been in business since the 1920's. A business doesn't stay around that long without having mastered their art. Keller's certainly seems to have done so. They offer a wide variety of sweets, including cookies, cakes, pies, tarts, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, and more. They also have frozen savory selections, like mini-meat pies, and seafood pies. They are located in a historic building in downtown Lafayette that has plenty of room for their many display cases. The large surface parking lot next door makes it easy to park while visiting.

Delicious king cakes! Blueberry cream cheese and amaretto walnut are the go-tos!

So I'm not from around here and had never had an experience with king cake until this year when my husband got stationed at Fort Polk. I bought one from Wal-Mart and was disgusted and was told go to Lafayette and get one from a bakery and boy oh boy were they right! First let me review the staff. I told them I was new to Louisiana and king cake and they were overwhelmingly helpful and even gave me information on the history of king cake! The bakery staff was so patient when I was being indecisive and really took their time to help me out. For the actual product.... OMG! I bought two king cakes, the blueberry cream cheese and almameretto walnut both per the bakers recommendation. My younger kids seemed to like the blueberry cream cheese best. While my older children favored the almameretto walnut. The blueberry cream cheese is more tart and sweet and not gooey like a donut filling but more baked into the cake. The bread is like a Danish and was oh so fresh! The almameretto walnut has a thick filling that is similar to a caramel flavor and the nuts are finely chopped. If you come to Louisiana during Mardi Gras please visit this bakery their king cake is an absolute must have!

So, we have several king cakes delivered to my office every year. I have never had a king cake that was so absolutely divine that I've tracked down the company to write a review on it. We had the cream cheese amaretto walnut delivered and although dense, it was incredible! Obviously, it had a cream cheese filling which I highly prefer over the more doughy types. There was a glaze over the outside which kept it from being dried out. I hope we get to experience more flavors!

The king cake was ready when I came to pick it up. It was very delicious, but there was no baby in it.

King cake wasn't very impressive for the cost. One I've seen were more colorful and had a twisted bread and thicker icing.

Half romantic books that highlights the dark, LGBTQIA+ and then your regular romance novels. I am not allowed to purchase any books at the moment, but I will be back once I am allowed to once again. The other half is a sweets bakery. I got two of the macaroons and an iced coffee. The prices were very reasonable, the coffee very good, and the service was amazing. Their restroom was so cute, I had to take a picture! And they had feminine hygiene products in case there is a need!

Heather has set up this shop so perfectly with such wonderful attention to detail... from the music softly piping through the speakers to the beautiful furnishings. Even the art on the walls is carefully thought out. If that wasn't enough, there is a Little Free Library here! And it is the most beautiful one I've ever seen and there is nothing little about it...there are so many books! If you are a book lover like me you will feel like you've died and gone to heaven. And just when you thought this place couldn't be any cuter you find out they do themes every week and reflect the theme into the delicious goodies. Themes like Bridgerton, Barbie, Harry Styles, Star Wars and Taylor Swift. SO much fun, so stinking adorable and the desserts aren't just gorgeous to look at, they are delicious, too. Bonne Vie is such a local treasure!!!

I forget where I first heard about this place (probably TikTok), but thankfully I had it…read morebookmarked. It was about 15 minutes off the highway on our trip back from New Orleans to Texas on a Friday, and hubby rarely lets me down when I propose a foodie detour -- so he was game! Thank goodness I didn't read the reviews too closely beforehand because apparently they can sell out early. We rolled in around 11:30 am, and while there was a short line, it moved quickly -- and they still had EVERY flavor available. Score! We opted for a box of four ($3.50 for a standard flavor, $3.75 for a seasonal one) -- honestly, way cheaper (and better) than that sad Crumbl franchise. We went with the s'mores (the gal in front of us said she came in just for that one), a mint Oreo, a butter cookie, and a chocolate one with cheesecake inside. It's now one day later, and there's only one left -- that's how good they are! The texture is that perfect slightly under-baked middle, which, in my humble opinion, is the superior way to bake a cookie. Of the three I've tried so far, the mint Oreo has been my favorite -- rich, chewy, and perfectly balanced between chocolate and mint. The s'mores was also fantastic -- melty and gooey in all the right ways. On to the owner's story -- which is seriously inspiring. Caroline started baking cookies at 21 during Covid, selling them to friends and family. She quickly realized she had a business on her hands. With the help of her dad -- who's also a business owner -- she launched this company, and now she's absolutely killing it with three Louisiana locations, a growing team of employees, and a reputation for selling out almost daily. What she's built takes guts, and it's clear she's not just surviving -- she's thriving. But what I love most is that she didn't settle for a boring, cookie-cutter (pun intended) storefront. Nope -- the place is FUN. The doors and walls are painted with playful cookie designs, and the vibe is super inviting. You can tell Caroline put real thought into making the space feel special. Even the merch is next level -- embroidered sweatshirts that are super high quality. Yeah, they're $50, but honestly, they feel like the kind of sweatshirt you'd live in all winter. I came this close to buying one for MY sister Caroline -- but alas, budget constraints got the best of me (for now). And the marketing? Genius. She's got that cool, low-key social media strategy that makes you feel like you stumbled upon a secret -- even though the line out the door proves otherwise. It's not just the cookies that make you want to keep coming back -- it's the whole experience. Caroline's story, her energy, the atmosphere -- it all makes you want to root for her and support the business. I'm already thinking about my next road trip just to swing by again (and maybe justify that sweatshirt purchase).

I definitely understand the hype of these cookies! I went on a Saturday morning at noon (they…read moreopened at 11), and I was one of the last ones to get one of everything that day. Such an adorable store filled with delicious cookies. I got a box full of various flavors of cookies. From peanut butter and chocolate to animal cracker to red velvet, there was a flavor for everyone. The cookies are a decent size, not as big as Crumbl but bigger than a regular cookie, and most are stuffed with something. I found the cookies to be moist and full of flavor. I really liked on the box it tells you how to store them if you don't eat all of them right away. For a full box of cookies, 6 of them, it was $22.. each cookie being $3.50. The staff was so amazing and patient with everyone. I was so glad I was able to come and experience this amazing cookie spot!
