First off, I've had major health issues since I was a small child, and I've seen more doctors that…read morealmost anyone else here who's submitted a review. I know what makes good medical and support staff. It seems that people are really motivated to write negative reviews when they've had a bad experience (pain meds, anyone?), but less motivated when it's good, maybe because we're feeling better and we forget it. Although I've had a couple imperfect experiences, for the most part, I've been really happy with Albany Med. I have congenital health issues that have to be managed carefully, and for decades, I lived in NYC, where my doctors coordinated everything. (I have to admit, I was probably spoiled by them.) But at this point, after several years up here, I'm content to shift everything to Albany Med. I've been lucky enough to have caring, intelligent primaries and their teams, and the specialists I've seen have been kind and competent. One staff member in Pulmonology wasn't great, but that was probably more about personality and politics (come on, in this age, who doesn't believe that vaccines are worth the "risk"?!). But I've never seen them again, so I was satisfied with that result. (There must be a note in my chart somewhere never to assign me to *that* person. Ever.) I've seen specialists in pulmonology, immunology, gastroenterology, OBGYN, and of course, primary care. Each of the doctors listened to my concerns, carefully considered my extensive records, and helped me make good choices for my care. No healthcare organization is perfect. By accepting this and allowing them to try their best to support me and my spouse through all my health mess, we've had good results with Albany Med. When you're in pain or really sick, it's difficult to be patient and understanding, but if you can allow yourself to remember that the doctors, RNs, PAs, and NPs are trying to be on your side, it helps. Since COVID, all medical establishments have struggled to get enough staff. We've all struggled. So my advice is to decide you want to be on the same team as the meds, not their adversaries. I DO NOT mean don't contradict them or just accept everything blindly. You have to advocate for yourself and be honest about the problems you're having. And seriously, remember that they ARE trying to help. Work with them to make it happen. (Also, if you want to complain about the physical facilities, maybe you should vote for the kind of funding needed to build, maintain, and staff those facilities.)

They really need to rethink those makeshift "rooms" in the hallways of their emergency room. Having…read moreto lay outside a bathroom for nearly 24 hours was gross. How horrible when you're sick you have to smell someone's poop. LITERALLY! It was disgusting. Just no! Some of the nurses were so unprofessional, bitching and swearing about patients out in the open hallway for us to hear, ignoring cries from people that were hurting. I actually got up to check on someone because they were yelling they couldn't breathe and nobody responded despite being in ear shot. I am not a medical professional and could only offer to find someone for him. The nurse that finally came in was so rude to him that he actually said something to her "please stop being mean to me." Every time she went into his room I could hear her saying things I feel were inappropriate for someone supposedly caring. I was actually stunned at the goings on in this ER and am surprised they haven't been shut down. People deserve better. I understand being short handed and the job is stressful but there's no reason to be rude to the people that you're getting paid to help and care for. Lose the attitudes! Nobody wants to be there! The area where I was stuck was absolutely disgustingly dirty. Blood and puke chunks on the floor for hours. I mentioned the community smelly bathroom. Gross. The patient liaison in the lobby was the nicest and super helpful. There was also a male nurse who seemed to be one of the only ones to care and really strived to be helpful so I'm thankful to those two! The doctors are super scarce and they will get to you when they feel like it. Horrible.
