Best spot to get John Deere stuff on this side of the Hudson valley. This is a knowledgeable, family-run buisness that takes pride in their work. The store itself is old school (which is part of the charm) and they stock most everything you need for your JD and Stihl stuff, from OEM parts to the latest big machines. The repair department is top notch and I never feel like I'm being cheated (like at some other places nearby). The staff is super friendly (more so than the owners). Ask for big A! read more

You couldn't pay me to deal with these guys again. Well maybe, but it would have to be a lot. I saw a snow blower on their website for a certain price and when I called to order it they told me that it was 100.00 more than the listed price. When I enquired as to why, one of the owners told me to speak with his brother because he was the one who sets up the website. Fair enough , so I called the other owner [his brother] and was told that the listed price would not be honored because of the following reasons: [in order] - the extra 100 is a fee that covers putting it together.[ a lie; they come from the factory assembled] -the extra 100 is the fee charged for unloading it off the truck. [i kid you not] -someone listed the price incorrectly; it is what it is, the price listed on the website won't be honored. Needless to say, how they stay in business is a mystery. read more

Bought a brand new tractor from them. PTO stopped working shortly thereafter. I got it working again. Then it stopped working again. Then I got it working again. The problem appeared to come from a small matchbox sized box under the seat that needed to be fiddled with to get it working. I sent them a video / pictures of it and asked them what it was. They said they would "have to charge me a technical research fee to let me know". Instead, I bought the technical manual from John Deere - which you would have expected them to be in possession of as they are supposed to be a service centre too - and figured it out for myself. Saved me some money but more importantly, what kind of service is that from a shop that supposedly knows about tractors? If you want to buy a brand new John Deere tractor, I'd drive to Adams Power in Poughkeepsie instead and relax in the knowledge that you wont have to pay them learn about how to repair your tractor. read more

I took my John Deer lawn tractor in because the PTO had quit working. They diagnosed it as rodent damage on the wiring. They "repaired the wiring and cleaned out 3 nests" (the tractor ran fine till the PTO quit) changed the oil, filters and steam cleaned + new blades for $435 (about $85 in parts). I took it home and after about an hour of use the PTO quit working again. This time they said it needed to be replaced and charged me nearly $300. I believe they should have gotten it right the first time and when confronted with this opinion was told that was what it was and TS. I stated that they had lost all credibility and that I will not go back to them. They seemed happy to take my money and didn't care that I was dissatisfied. No interest in discounting the invoice or admitting to possible errors on their part. After digging in to the issue on my own - it seems likely that I had knocked a wire loose from the PTO the first time in the tall weeds and they just reconnected that wire + + whatever else was easy for them to charge me for. When it happened again they decided to charge for a replacement part rather than point me to a fix I could do without their help. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. Will not go back to them and advise others to proceed with great caution and demand return of the parts they claim to replace. read more

When I tried to duplicate a John Deere riding lawnmower key at the nearby Williams Lumber location around the corner today(much like I always do with key copies I need), I was told to stop here instead (actually, they told me to stop at an official John Deere dealership) and since I knew of this dealership, I stopped in.I was rather pleased, though the key was a little on the expensive side and doesn't fit very well on my key-ring. It took them all of a few minutes to retrieve the key from the back storeroom and it only cost four and a half bucks ($4.52) though when he saw it was all paid for in coins/cash, he let it go for $4.50 alone. (Thank you.) The store looks clean and very well organized, though I didn't need to take much time to get this issue taken care of. Yes, there are only a few aisles of John Deere associated products, but for some mowers from several years back, they can assist you with your John Deere product. If I ever do need any other John Deere stuff, we'll see about coming back. It sure was a special treat for me, to make a purchase at your company, regardless of the cheapness of the purchase price. There wasn't much parking. Yes, their inside lot you had to park your car in front of lawnmowers and on the street parking gets tricky when other cars are parked on the other side of the street (which we all know can get tricky in this part of town as other car owners maneuvering around the other cars parked streetside). I knew it wasn't going to take too long inside, so I ended up parking inside their lot, and everything turned out fine. (If it hadn't been for another car also in the lot and several garage-like doors around back, I would've parked elsewhere, but I knew other cars could squeeze through around me without a bit of trouble. read more

I have four machines from this dealer. They are quite nice, and they talk a good game, especially when you are buying. But the service is the downside. You WILL wait 2-4 weeks for most repairs. Yikes. read more

They seemed so nice but when I brought my Gator in to have a cab put on it and get a tune up, I ended up with a bill that was almost double the written estimate--$6000 vs. $3100. Almost $500 was sale tax that they neglected to list on the estimate. Another $500 was for a new roof that they only said I needed once it was in the shop. Then they added $500 in undisclosed parts and over $1000 more in labor. They said that was for a fuel pump and installation of the roof. That seems excessive. Even my BMW service is less. Once it was in their shop they told me the fuel pump I had just had replaced needed to be replaced again. I felt I had no choice but to say yes. Ultimately, I got a different cab than what I told them I wanted, didn't get all my property returned and a tiny adjustment when I complained. I hate getting a bunch of add ons when someone is essentially holding your vehicle hostage. read more

Both the Red Hook and Livingston stores have terrible service turnaround. If you buy something, don't expect anything like the kind of attention you got when you paid for the equipment as when it needs service. I waited eight weeks for a routine repair of a chain saw this past summer and ended up taking the equipment back and taking it to Conway's, where service is faster. It's gotten so bad that I have stopped giving Keil's any business. And the other commenter is right that attitudes on the part of the service staff (as opposed to the guys who want to sell you a piece of machinery) could improve as well. read more

Awful service and incompetent, rude, never called back, took weeks to do the repair and when they did do the repair, they did a shoddy job. No, worse than shoddy, possibly dangerous, because the tractor caught fire. My husband brought in our Deere tractor for repair early in the summer. We own a luxury bed and breakfast, so it is essential that our lawn be well-kept. It took Keil 3 weeks (!) before they repaired the tractor! This was after repeated calls we made to them, asking about the status of the repair. The woman answering would always say she'd get back to us, but she never did. Finally, we went there, had to wait at least an hour before they decided to take care of us, and they sent us home promising they'd get to the tractor "soon." So, after those weeks of waiting, we got our tractor back, so-called repaired, and meanwhile I had to hire someone to mow the lawn-- twice!. So, we get our tractor back and after ten minutes of mowing, the the tractor CAUGHT FIRE. This could have been a terrible accident, but luckily my husband jumped off in time and happened to have a wheelbarrow of water closeby to douse the fire. We called Keil, who poo-pooed the incident and told us to contact Deere if we had any complaints about the tractor!. We contacted Deere, who basically told us they're not responsible and they tell us to contact Keil. We bring the tractor in yet again, and again it took 3 weeks THREE WEEKS ! for them to finally get back to us, and they said the fire had nothing to do with their repair and in fact they wanted to charge us $1,000 for this repair! And never once did they express concern or apologize. They Get ZERO stars for service. Meanwhile, the summer came and went and all summer long I had to hire people to mow my lawn. read more
