When we picked Astoria as a travel destination last summer, I started looking up places we may want to visit and top of the list was a tattoo shop. I did a deep dive into their website and Instagram accounts and Keepsake clearly became our top choice. For the record, their explicit support of #BlackLivesMatter sealed the deal. I knew it was a long shot trying to get on one of their artist's calendars only a few weeks prior, although I decided it was worth trying. I e-mailed both Aaron and Russ. I got an automatic reply from Aaron that he was booked out for like six months, however, Russ responded and while he was already fully booked the week we would be there, he offered to put us on a waitlist just in case someone canceled. Fast forward a week, and still a couple weeks before our trip, and Russ reached out to get more information on what we were looking for. Then he proceeded to go out of his way to bump up some local clients to make room for us. It was my honey's second and my more than second tattoo. Both were in "spicy" spots pain-wise--calf for him, inner upper arm for me. Russ is a seasoned artist and it shows through both his professionalism, as well as his ability to make a painful experience as easy as possible. Tattoo safety aside (which they obviously take very seriously), I really appreciated their attention to COVID safety as well, including masking for artists and clients. Both of our pieces have healed beautifully and we would return in a heartbeat. I am hoping that future travel plans can include more time in Astoria and specifically more time at Keepsake Tattoo. I had seen the outside of this tattoo studio many times, having passed by it almost daily in this small town. Then, I one day I finally walked in. I went to Keepsake Tattoo Studio having nothing with me except a sketch of what I had in mind. I never had any work done because I wanted it to be the right time and I never came across a design that called to me. Then, I discovered a tribal design I really liked online. When I walked in the person at the counter greeted me and ask how she could help. Despite my apprehension, she was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I felt welcomed. I was lead to the artist booklets, so I could see the artist style of each artist. I went upstairs, where the actual tattoos are done, there I saw several samples of each artist work spread out on the wall. They explained the process to me and what the next step I could take would be. They offer reasonable prices, they gave me an estimate of how many sessions my design would likely require and that I would need to have a deposit the first time I had work done. The studio was clean, professional, and inviting. They are cool with walks-ins and consultations, but I would recommend an appointment. Keepsake Tattoo Studio does both piercings and tattoos. Summary: Clean Professional Knowledgeable Affordable Update--- In late June and early July of 2009 I decided to have some work done at Keepsake. Chris was my artist, I would describe him as passionate, professional, and welcoming. He is obviously passionate based on his philosophies on the art of tattooing and the fact that he uses his own custom designed needles. He is a professional, from how he approaches the design to the feedback he provides you. And he's welcoming because he won't pressure you and wants you to feel comfortable. Lastly, as for the work itself, I walked away satisfied and proud. Although time and cost varies, in my case the back piece was completed in two sessions and for surprisingly reasonable cost. I went back to Aaron recently for another tattoo. I had an idea, I scribbled a little, but mainly I told him what I was thinking and my inspiration. He did some drawing and what he came up with was better than I'd hoped for! I live a world away now but Aaron will always be my guy. PS. People often ask me how old my tattoos are, I have so many, and they never believe me. They're still bright and look great. Part of that is that I have very white skin and I never tan or burn. But part of it is that Aaron is so controlled. In fact, I have 2 tattoos that were done by other people, they've faded and Aaron has touched them up. Aaron's great. read more

Walked in to buy jewelry and found no one at the counter. I politely asked the two tattooing behind the counter if I could be helped with a purchase and the brunette "lady" merely looked up and shot me a dirty look, then went back to her work and ignored me. I would have walked right out there at that point but that's when the guy working the counter came over and completed my jewelry purchase. Coincidentally, I had also been looking for someone to do a special custom tattoo, which I had planned on inquiring about. Ended up instead going to Astoria Tattoo Company and was warmly welcomed! Carolyn did my nose piercing, it was quick and she took the time to answer all the questions I had and made sure the placement was right for me. She gave me the option to lay or sit which helped as well. It was $50 for the piercing and jewelry at the time I went (this may change) which was a better price than other placed I checked. I've been considering getting a tattoo for the past few months and figured I would just go into PDX since in my mind that is where the "really good" artists are. Before I did that I thought I would check out Keepsake. I'm really glad I did. When I first went in, the guy at the front was really kind and helpful, showing me the artist's portfolios. I told him what I was interested in and when I decided Andrea's work best reflected what I wanted, he took me upstairs to talk with her. Even though she was working on someone, she took a moment to hear what I wanted and was really friendly about working with me. I just had my first session with Andrea yesterday and it went great. I was there for about 2 hours and she did an AWESOME job. The studio was well lit, very comfortable, clean and I felt like I was in very very good hands. I feel extremely confident about recommending Andrea to anyone (since I only have experience with her) and I know if I get another tattoo, she will definitely be my go-to artist.
