I am only speaking as an admirer of Kumu Kanoe Barker and her halau; such beautiful dancing and a deep understanding of Hawaiian culture :)

Decent crowd. Parking is in the lot at the Pike. On the day that we went, 4 out of the 5 comedians were not very funny. Service was friendly and quick. There's also a two drink min, but doesn't have to be alcohol. Service is pretty good and there's no bad spot in the house. Great for a date night or special celebration. Tickets are super easy to order online. Comic lineups can be mixed - expect a mix of talent unless you're there for a big household name. Being a New Yorker I know most famous comedians hone their craft at local comedy clubs so I don't mind a dud or two in the lineup if the remaining comics are good. So many great food options nearby on Pine Ave, the Pike and Shoreline Village. Super walkable. Hyatt Regency across the street if you want to make it a weekend or Staycation getaway. Movie theatres nearby too, as well as the Aquarium and whale watching boat tours. It's one more venue in a lineup of activities in Downtown LB to explore for special occasions and overall fun. A group of us took our girlfriend to the LF for her Birthday on a Saturday night and had a great time. Lots of laughs. Four of the 6 comedians were really funny so it was a fun night overall.

Aquarium of the Pacific…read more Parking is easy at the nearby Parking Garages. The Aquarium does validate $7.00 off. Since I was going to be there on a Sunday, I reserved an entry time when I bought my ticket. As you enter you see the gift shop on the left and huge Blue Whale suspended from the ceiling. The lower floor is a bit disappointing... everything there seems to focus you to the outdoors portion of the facility. Once outdoors you can begin exploring, including an exhibit on Salmon and Trout, a touch pool for sharks and rays, Lorikeet walk thru enclosure ($5 for some nectar), watch the trainers work with Seals and Sea Lions and a little play area for kids. Upstairs is where the magic happens...coral reefs, jelly fish exhibits, Puffins, Seahorses; Lobsters... amazing exhibits. Well put together. Bathrooms are numerous and clean. Food at the main restaurant (Cafe Scuba) is PRICEY!! Most entrees are in $20+ dollar range. 2nd Floor The Whale Cafe under the Blue Whale on the ground floor offers more reasonable snacks and coffee. The 2 outdoor dining options by the Shark Lagoon offers reasonable grab and go food and snacks and smoothies.

There's street parking and different structures you can park in as well. It's also on the second floor of a plaza, pretty easy to find. The inside is designed weird bc the front desk isn't obvious and you have to turn a corner to find it? There was only 1 person working that shift when I arrived. Apparently other people reserved 8pm too but they all were late so my social lane ended up being just me for a while before others joined. Sebastian did a great job of explaining the rules and he was super nice always coming around to check on me and the group of friends I randomly bumped into. He was very attentive and kind and funny! This is a great activity either for date night or a friends night out! I would definitely come come back with friends and utilize the Groupon again!

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a peaceful hidden gem tucked inside California State…read moreUniversity, Long Beach. I walked into a space that is smaller than some larger Japanese gardens, but the layout feels carefully planned with winding paths, traditional landscaping, a koi pond, waterfalls, bridges, and quiet corners throughout. It is the type of place where taking your time matters more than trying to see everything quickly, and the smaller size actually makes the experience feel more intimate. The garden feels like a world apart from the campus surrounding it, and the transition from the university grounds to the garden is immediate and effective. The koi pond is easily the centerpiece of the garden and one of the most enjoyable parts to spend time around. I found myself lingering by the water, watching the fish move through the pond as the sunlight filtered through the trees. The fish are large and active, and the surrounding greenery, stone features, and water elements create a very relaxing atmosphere. The garden does a good job balancing natural scenery with traditional Japanese design, with each section offering a slightly different view and feeling as I walked through. The bridges and stone lanterns add to the sense of place, and the sound of the waterfalls creates a calming background that stays with you as you move through the space. What I liked most about this garden is how calm it feels despite being located on a college campus. It feels separated from the surrounding area once you enter, making it a nice place for a quiet walk, photography, or just taking a break. The landscaping is well maintained, and the entire space has a slower pace that encourages you to actually stop and appreciate the details rather than rushing through. The garden's design rewards a slow approach, with each turn in the path offering a slightly different perspective on the pond, the plants, and the stonework. The visit is fairly quick since the garden is compact, but it works well as a relaxing stop rather than a destination that takes up an entire afternoon. Reservations are required, so it is worth checking availability before going. Admission is free, although parking is an extra cost and can be the main inconvenience, especially during busy campus hours. The garden's location on campus makes it accessible, but the parking situation can require a bit of patience. Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a beautiful spot if you are looking for a peaceful escape rather than a large attraction. The koi pond, thoughtful design, and quiet atmosphere make it a place worth visiting, especially on a nice day when you can take your time walking through the garden. It offers a brief but meaningful pause from the surrounding city and campus life, and the care that has gone into maintaining the space is evident in every corner.
