Beautiful beach for an all day trip since there is plenty of shade. Good place to see sea turtles while snorkeling. Be careful with parking. Thought I was ok based on signage but had a $35 lesson in how to interpret no parking signs. Happy to contribute to the road repair fund though since this beach is near perfect. More parking and it would be perfect. read more

This is a nice beach, but it is small and crowded... We'd recommend doing your research and going elsewhere... Tunnels Beach is a million times better and just a short drive away... there are also plenty of amazing beaches, better than Ke'e, just a short drive away... read more

Wonderful beach experience here. Parking is a pain, but managed to parallel on the street in front of the No Parking sign and walked down. Lifeguard on duty, showers, bathrooms were available. Snorkeling was fantastic. There is even a little area to the left where my toddler and I enjoyed watching the fish swim by. The downfall is that this is a very busy beach. We were surrounded by folks on all sides, along with chickens! We could see two huge shiny turtle shells sleeping on the reef from afar. read more

This beach is located on the north shore of Kauai. You just keep heading north and the road eventually ends and what do you find? A pretty cool beach that begins the na Pali coastline. The sand is really fine, which I absolutely love. And the beach is a great place to snorkel and swim at. Not sure about surf or anything...I'm a local of Oahu, so Kauai beaches are a bit foreign to me. When we got here is was pouring rain off and on and I LOVE swimming when it rains because the water is warmer. I was hoping it'd be empty but unfortunately it was pretty crowded. Guess lots of people were in the area for Easter Sunday? There's a great trail hike. Much easier to hike when it's not so wet and muddy I'm sure. Either way, it's a pretty nice beach with calm water so if that's what you're looking for, the trek up north might be worth it. read more

Truly the end of where you car can go on the north shore. Great beach to take a dip in after a hike of any length of the Kalalau trail which crosses the na' pali coast. I recommend hiking in the morning (best bet to find parking) and parking your ass on the beach afterwards. If you're not a gung-ho hiker, the kind that likes to camp out and stuff, I'd recommend the 2 mile hike to the 1st beach. Even that will be challenging to some, but is very doable if you're in half modest shape and not in need of supplemental O2. The 2 miles are mostly up and down and rarely level, so be ware of that. Beautiful sprawling views of the coast. Definitely worth it. If you're in even better shape, hike 2 miles more to the water fall. Oh and the beach. Great little reward at the end of the hike. Calm waters. Sand is a little sketch. Lots of little knobby things fallen from the trees - ouch, but once you get to the water, it's cool. Lots of chickens/roosters clucking around. They don't bother you. It's cool. Don't get too close to the turtles. The lifeguards will blow their horn and yell at you - rightfully so. read more

We discovered this little gem of a beach on our last trip to Kauai. We were staying in Princeville and would would drive to beaches. On our first day we went to the Kalalua Trail. We wanted to do the first part to Hanakapai Beach. We thought why don't we go to this beach. So the next day we went. It was gorgeous. When I was in the water I was looking at the scenery of tall cliffs, black rocks and lot of trees. The snorkling was good. It is protected by a reef and is very shallow. The water is very warm and clear. It is great for young kids. The beach also worked for us due to the time of year. We were there In August and the water was safe on the North Shore. In the winter when the water on the North Shore is not safe this beach would not be good. As other reviewers stated the parking is terrible. Expect to do a lot of walking. Also the sand is very hot. It is unbearably hot. Make sure you have beach shoes. read more

The last beach on the north side of the island. The beach is not particularly deep but is quite wide and goes on for a bit. The facilities are okay. Parking is a bit tight. There are far better places to go to the beach along the way on the north shore --- more private, and secluded, but this is the place to come if you're adventurous enough to do the Nepali coast hike. This is a treacherous 11 mile hike that starts at this beach and then gets steep very quickly. There is also an intermediate 2 mile (4 hour hike) which is more doable. Didn't get a chance to try the hike on this trip but that's what return trips are for :). There are also some caves near the beach that are interesting. But really if you don't plan on hike save yourself some time and driving headache and stop at the Princeville (or at most the Haena area). read more

It was rainy the day we were here, but the lagoon area was a good snorkeling area. Another plus was that the bathrooms had been updated recently so there was a skylight that brought in light. You know how dark and dingy beach public facilities can be. There's a lifeguard on duty here too. Parking can be a bit of a bummer if you get here late as folks go hiking in the bushes here too and share the lot. It's really limited, so we're talking by 9 am or you'll be sol. read more

I agree with the review about how busy this beach can be. Parking is hard to find at key times. It is a pretty beach, you have to be careful at high tide that you stay to the right side of the beach because there is a opening in the reef on the left side and the current can get strong and pull you that way. Beautiful beach, not my favorite we did some short hikes to a few awesome beaches that were just as if not more beautiful and only two or three other groups of people on the beach. This is one of the best beaches in Kaua'i! The coral formation acts like a great speed bump/barrier to the ocean, creating a natural swimming pool with calm waters. Kids can easily enjoy the water and snorkeling here due to the calm waves. The backdrop of lush mountains is spectacular. There's fairly good shade from nearby trees to protect you from the Kaua'i sun. As others mentioned, parking can be a mess. You are competing with hikers parking to go on the Kalalau trail, in addition to the beachgoers. There's a fairly large parking lot 1 block away to park if the main parking lot is filled up. Try to get there early (before 9am) for a good spot. Look along the reefs for the occasional sea turtle and monk seal, but don't walk or step on the coral! read more

Still one of my favorite beaches. With Napali coast as a back drop with palm trees over the water, the protected lagoon and crystal clear water makes this beach one of the best. I was initially bothered by the state making nonresidents (tourists) pay for a permit and entry fee per person. Especially since you have to book it 30 days in advance starting at 12:01 am Hawaii time (parking permits are usually gone almost right away). However, I now understand why and I appreciate what they are doing. It's cleaner, more beautiful, and not crowded at all. We went on Sunday morning and it was almost empty. We got to enjoy the beach and snorkel as if it was our private beach. My son and I were greeted by a friendly green turtle aka honu while snorkeling. He just swam towards us and hung out with us for a long time. There were monk seals just sun bathing nearby as well. I believe it's due to controlling the amount people at this location. read more

This is a great place to see tropical fish, which seemed to be everywhere along the reef near the swimming area. unfortunately, I didn't see a sea turtle, though someone else in my group did, when i was relaxing on the beach. The water was a comfortable temperature and the sand was fine, as in not coarse, so it was nice to walk in/on. The only things I didn't like were the wild chickens which were begging for food and encroaching into my personal space, the pinecones which made it uncomfortable to walk on the beach in some areas and the lack of parking. Still it is an amazing beach and recreational area. read more

Born and raised on Kauai, I can remember going to this beach twice: once on a school field trip and the sand was so hot, we could barely walk on it and once with some family friends. When I took my children here last year, we didn't get to Ke'e Beach until mid afternoon so there was nowhere to park so we passed on going there (besides my kids and son-in-law were sunburnt and wanted to stay out of the sun). This year when I took the BF to my home island, we stayed in Princeville for a few days/nights so we were able to make it to this beach relatively early in the morning and was able to find a parking spot. IMHO, parking is problematic because it is limited, but also because this is the parking for both Ke'e Beach and for Hanakapiai (not Hanakapai) trail/Kalalau trail. I can see how this beach would get crowded. I would recommend seeing it, as it is the "end of the road" beach; if you're adventurous and have a four wheeled drive rental, head the other way and see Polihale State Park which is another "end of the road" beach on the island When I return, either individually or with the BF, I won't be visiting this beach again; if I return with the kids, then I will, just so they can see it read more

Ke'e Beach is SUPER protected-- perfect for beginner snorkelers. There is a surprisingly large number of fish and other wildlife (eels! and fearless feral chickens haha) in the bay in spite of all the visitors in the water. J and I ventured into the waters after hiking to Hanakapi'ai Falls. All in all, the perfect way to cool off after sweating it out on the trail. read more

Ke'e Beach is absolutely breathtaking, peaceful, and serene. The water is clear and blue and not murky like other nearby beaches I visited in the North side. The shores and nice and calm and people are respectful and clean up after themselves to preserve the beach. There is also an entrance to the Kalaulau Trail that is a must hike! Ke'e is absolutely gorgeous. Take in the breathtaking view as you approach from the parking lot, then stroll up the beach to get a glimpse of the incredible Na Pali coast scenery. Trust me, your friends will ask if your pics are photoshopped. On calm days, it's great for snorkeling and swimming, but just be careful not to turn your back on the ocean. read more

After a long hike, this beach was exactly what I needed! I went snorkeling here and saw some pretty fish, but needed to swim out much closer to the rocks to see them. Some other people said they saw a sea turtle and I missed it...Man!!! Oh well...maybe next time.The water is smooth and easy to swim in. Parking is tough unless you get there very early! The beach is beautiful and it is refreshing to relax here after hiking the trail. However, I do love the views on the hike. They are some of the best views that you can find on these islands. The views of the Na Pali coast and the North Coast of Kauai are breathtaking. This hike is one of the reasons that Kauai is my favorite neighbor island to go and visit. Ke'e Beach is an intimate beach great for snorkeling! After looking at some of these reviews, I really wish that we'd stayed there to witness the sunset! We went snorkeling after a hiking and consuming a coconut. We had gotten parking in the lot earlier, before our hike. There are bathrooms for changing and showers to rinse of under. Lifeguard on duty (as with anywhere else, you'll want to ask him about the conditions before getting into the water). The snorkeling area was pretty well protected and calm. We saw all sorts of beautiful tropical fish and other reef dwellers. It was easy to get in and out of the water. Some of the reef was so close to the surface, you have to be very careful not to touch it! Would definitely come back here the next time in Kauai. read more

Pretty busy beach--lots of people, lots of chickens, lots of yelling on the loudspeaker by the nonplussed lifeguards. This was in late June/early July, so to be expected a bit, I suppose, but you can definitely find quieter beaches with better snorkeling and swimming nearby. And no chickens. I think if you have young kids and you'd like them to stay nearby, this is the beach for you--the reef forms a lagoon that allows kids to stay closer to shore and still see some good fish. Otherwise, felt a bit too crowded for my taste. read more

I am disgusted at going to this beach at all. the only reason to go would be to hike the trail. Otherwise SKIP this beach. We drove two hours from Poipu on the recommendation of Boss Frogs and Yelp to go snorkeling. What a waste. let me tick it off 1. you are in the rain shadow of the mountain. So you had better expect to get rained on...frequently...and it is NOT a warm rain 2. there are virtually NO fish. Nada...zip. For anyone on Yelp to say there is, they have been smoking too much Pokololo. I saw zip for variety. No turtles, no seals, nothing. boring. In addition, the reef is so close to the surface that you have no room to swim over it without getting screamed at by the lifeguards OR getting torn up due to the strong currents. The only great thing about going up here was the drive and the reef makes a nice protective barrier for kids to swim and play in the water. the drive was beautiful. Otherwise do NOT go here for snorkeling. You will have better luck on the south shore. read more

Gorgeous views and the cleanest water! We went hiking to the waterfalls and after we finished the hike, we stay on the beach for a few more hours before the sunset. The water was extremely clean and very calm. Great for swimming! Much smaller waves then anywhere else on the island. The beach wasn't crowded at all. The parking lot, though, is pretty limited. I heard that it's best to come early in the morning, not later than 9am. read more

Beach trip was the highlight of my week on Kauai - just get here before 8:30am to secure a parking spot in the lot (about two blocks from the beach). What a glorious setting...a stunning sandy bay to swim that is protected by the very curious and interesting coral reef. The beach goes from a gentle slope to nicely 6-7 feet deep, and then rises up to about 4 feet nearer the reef...where you can look east and see the stunning Napali coast! Bathrooms and showers and a life guard. Loved it!! read more

Great beach there!!! Stunning view and awesome weather as well. Also, it's totally ideal for snorkeling. I went there for snorkeling after reading some info about it. And the road to that beach is the end of the road of Kauai---the road called Kuhio Hwy . The main reason I gave four stars for that because is because the parking is VERY limited even on the side of road pavement it took a very good while to find a parking that becomes available. Which is why it wasn't really crowded there, which is ironically good. The beach itself deserves five stars. read more

One of my favorite beaches on Kauai, it's a must see. There is beautiful foliage that reminds me of a rainforest surrounding it. There is also a very nice hike that allows you to see an overview of the whole beach. Along with a beautiful beach it has very nice places to swim. There is some snorkeling along the edge of the reef that is decent and worth trying. Make sure not to drift too far left or else you'll be swept out into the napali coast (Noooo)! Apparently this beach is rated the 2nd best beach on Kauai. Not even talking about the beach, check-in for the North Shore shuttle was ridiculous. You pay $60 for the shuttle pass and $16 to park your car at the Princeville Makai Golf Club when you come from Princeville. When you get to the shuttle, you have to not only check-in with the person at the shuttle stop, you also have to check-in with the shuttle driver, which makes zero sense, since they're basically doing the same thing twice. And what's even more ridiculous is that there is no posted time schedule, so the only way you find out about the shuttle times is if you ask the shuttle employees. When you get to the beach and you're walking towards it, there are signs blanketing the path with NO SWIMMING/SNORKELING displayed on them, so any of us should have seen the warning signs that this beach was going to have issues. We got to the beach, expecting to see one of the most beautiful beaches on our trip here, and it was a major letdown. There are so many trees close to the sand that leaves, sticks, and tree needles are mixed in with the sand. And then there are the flying bugs that look like ants with wings; you cannot lay down on that beach a full minute without a bug crawling on you. The lifeguard told us that you cannot snorkel until the sun comes up over the ridge, but since it was cloudy, I doubt that anyone would have been able to snorkel that day. I wonder if the weather at this beach is always this gloomy... In conclusion, we ended up paying $76 for this lackluster excuse for an amazing beach. There are many free beaches that are much nicer, and that offer you a better experience than this one provided. Don't bother paying to go to this beach; you're much better off going to another beach. read more
