This beach is definitely worth your while. It was one of my favorite beaches in Kauai. There are only 8 parking spots reserved for this beach so it is first come first serve. I understood why it was called hideaway beach because this trail was hidden and you do have to go through some muddy steps on the trail. Although there are ropes to help you climb. The views from these beach are amazing and there aren't too many people that come here either. It truly feels secluded. Great place to snorkel with the clear waters.

This is a very nice and secluded beach, and it seems to be great for snorkeling. The people who went snorkeling said that they saw turtles and a lot of different kinds of fish. The water is also quite calm. The hike down is not too bad because the ropes really help. My 78 year old sister managed without problems and it took no more than 10 minutes. It's also a great spot for watching sunset. The biggest problem is parking, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. There are really just 8 spots! We were lucky we lived at Bali Hai Wyndham Resort and it's walkable, a little over a mile away.

So quiet and beautiful! The waves are super chill. The water was nice and clear . Definitely recommend this spot if you want a more chill sunset beach vibe

Beautiful views! Worth the short, but steep hike. 10 parking spots. Plenty of parking at 9 am. People come and go so just be patient if there are no parking spots.

    Snorkeling- shallow and fun

5 Stars for the beach- great beach, lots of shade, we loved snorkeling too. Not crowded. While we there it rained twice! Come prepared- it is a calm uncrowded place. The Trail - starts from from the sidewalk to the beach , (see pic of start- with construction site and public parking is hazardous at the beginning Slippery, ropes assist but they are various lengths, widths, AND muddy. The concrete steps are irregular and don't go far only the top 10%. Then you'll use ropes & tree roots to slow your descent! Wear tennis shoes with traction or boots. Young strong hikers can do this without much problem but when it rains the trail is slick mud.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful!! It's simply isolated and beautiful. It's not easy to get to but worth the short steep hike. It takes 10 minutes or less to hike it but it's worth it in the end. It's quiet and there's no parking. So be prepared to walk . It's near the old Princevillle resort . I didn't snorkel but saw others snorkeling! Wear decent shoes to get don't and hold on to the ropes on the sides.

Tricky to Find Kaumumene Trailhead to Pali Ke Kua, or Hideaway beach in Princeville

Love it. The trailhead is directly next to (almost touching) the ocean side of the tennis courts at the edge of public beach parking. The larger parking lot is for the 1 hotel (formerly St Regis) The rope stair are steep. Bring a chair you can strap to your back, as well as snorkel gear

We kayaked to this beach as part of a kayaking & snorkeling tour with Kayak Hanalei (awesome tour by the way... definitely check them out!!!). After landing our kayaks on the beach, we geared up for snorkeling. The water was clear and we saw lots of fish and our guide even showed us an octopus he found. We did notice turtles on our way to the beach. We had our lunch on the beach too which was nice. There were several others on the beach. I noticed you have to climb down a path to get to this beach as well. Nice beach, great for snorkeling.

If you can get to Hideaways Beach, then it is well worth your time! There are only 8 parking spots in the public access lot, and no, you cannot park on the side of the roads in Princeville or any other private parking lot (unless you are staying there for the night), otherwise you risk getting towed and/or a $150 fine. If you can walk over from where you are staying, that is a huge plus. Indeed, the beach is hidden from view when you first arrive at the area, and then you have to descend carefully on steep steps though there are huge ropes to help stabilize you as you are going down or climbing back up. There were quite a few groups at the beach when I stopped by, though Hideaways is not very big to begin with. You can snorkel, relax on the beach in the sun or under the many trees that provide shade, plus even catch a sunset at the end of the day. Best to bring both hiking shoes and beach sandals.

This is probably my favorite beach in Kauai. It is a little treacherous getting to the beach, but the trek is so worth it!! The water is so calm and clear and I think that because it's a little difficult to get to, it limits the amount of people who would actually go.

    The clear green beach!

This was my favorite beach in kauai! It has crystal green waters, perfect reefs for snorkeling, soft sand, and not a lot of tourists. I actually found this beach when I went on a canoeing and snorkeling tour. I probably wouldn't have found it if it weren't for the tour. Anyways, to get here, search the st. Regis hotel near the hanelei bay (which is the second best beach in my opinion). Just before you arrive at the gates to the hotel entrance, there's a smaller public parking lot. Park there if you have space. If not you'll have to park a bit far back out on the grass because public parking is very very limited. I suggest coming early around 8. Right next to that tiny parking lot is a warning sign and a little dirt path that leads to the bottom where the beach is. Hold onto the ropes and careful not to fall. You'll hike down about 8 minutes and you'll arrive! Anyone can do the hike. There are no restrooms btw! Bring snorkeling gear, towel, sunscreen, and food!

Find the path and walk your way down, It's a beautiful hidden beach. The hike down is easy but can be slippery. The views are amazing and there is hardly anyone there. Beautiful place to soak up some quiet time and take in the sounds of the waves.

    Esther L.

Almost don't want more people to know about this gem, but alas, word seems to be getting out. On your way down, clear blue waters where you can see to the bottom of the ocean floor. Go early in the morning to grab a parking spot (only about seven) and wear good shoes. Also, the earlier you are, the more fish you will see The hike down is almost not doable if your hands are not free to hold the ropes. I saw a family with a baby and the dad was carrying tons of items for a picnic in flip flops...they really struggled. However, if you're somewhat in shape and prepared it, the cautionary journey down is rewarded once you're in the water. About ankle deep, I was already surrounded by fish. I saw two schools of fish and about five turtles!

After my first visit, I understand why. It is an awesome beach. The entire bay is about 2 miles long, and consists of many smaller named parks, each with its own parking, green space, and facilities. To the far east is Black Pot Beach Park where the pier is located. Going west, there is Hanalei Pavilion Beach Park, centrally located with a large grassy area with a pavilion. Next is Wai'oli Beach Park, the largest of the parks with a big parking lot, sand volleyball courts, and ironwood trees. This beach will take you to the mouth of the Waioli Stream. There are more sandy areas beyond (Ines's secret beach and Waikoko) which are still on the bay, but would require walking on roads to get to. There is so much space that finding a spot to yourself is extremely easy, even on a busier day. The bay itself is protected and shallow, and has a very gently sloping ocean bottom. Depending on the tide, one can see people just hanging out far into the ocean, but still being able to stand up. And the frequent sand bars allow one to stand up as well. When we visited on a Saturday morning, the local surfing school was having a competition, using the large parking lot at Wai'oli Beach Park for gathering, and the nearby surf for the competition. One thing to note is that the main road to get to this area from the east is the Kuhio Hwy. On it, the Hanalei bridge crosses the Hanalei river and is only one lane with no traffic light. It wasn't so bad when when we came earlier in the morning, but it was pretty backed up trying to get to Hanalei Beach when we crossed back later that morning. I read later that the proper etiquette is to cross in a convoy of 5 - 7 cars at a time, giving a friendly wave to acknowledge that the other side is patiently waiting their turn.

Another beautiful, worth-visiting beach park on the north shore of Kauai. The central point is the park, that provides plenty of paved parking (parking is also available on the side of the road that hugs the coastline). This park has dedicated camping sites, and we saw many backpack tents set-up further in from the shoreline, usually underneath shade provided by the false kamani trees. The park contains a lot of green space and facilities. My wife and I ate our deli lunch at a nearby picnic table. Turtles often come on shore here, though there were none today (probably because we came in the afternoon). One thing we noticed were all the multi-million dollar homes right on the other side of Anini Road once you pass by Anini Beach Park traveling to the west (it's a dead end, so would need to circle back to get out). They are rentable via the typical companies, and would be great for beach loving families who want to spend some secluded time near the ocean. Also in the area are small pockets where one can park their car and go out into shoreline. From there, one can see and explore the large coral reef that rings this area.

From the entrance, the hike down to Queen's Bath is about half a mile. It's not too long, but there are a few tricky spots that require some careful footing. It's definitely manageable for most people, including kids, as long as you take your time. Once you arrive, you're rewarded with a beautiful natural tide pool filled with seawater and fish. Some people were even jumping from the surrounding rocks into the water below. The spot was lively, with plenty of tourists and families making the hike down to enjoy the view and the experience.
