I strongly recommend against using KD Electric. I hired them to do some fairly simple rewiring of our home: replacing a junction box and adding one circuit for a new 120V outlet. They wound up shorting one of the hot lines to neutral, which caused 240V to be supplied to 120V circuits. This caused an electrical fire by overloading multiple transformers. If I had not been near one of the transformers when the electrical service was restored, our home quite literally could have burned down. The result was heavy smoke damage and multiple appliances needing to be replaced. Even though a forensic expert was sent to our home by our insurance agency who confirmed KD's negligence, they have refused to cover the expenses for the smoke mitigation and appliance replacements. read more

During a heat advisory our air conditioner breaker failed and we needed an electrician in a hurry. This wonderful company helped us quickly fix the problem...and found the issue was caused by faulty wiring on the new air conditioner. We needed some electrical help to replace some switches in our new home because we wanted to tie the lights into our wireless network. I am not an electrician but I can manage some of the basics and have installed motion sensors, Ring floodlights, etc. I was not comfortable replacing the 3-way switches because there were too many wires and I can't see electricity. The last thing I want to do is cause a fire or electrocute myself. So, we researched electricians on Yelp that could help. My wife found three local companies through Yelp and reached out to them to inquire about cost and estimated time frame for completing the work. Damon was quick to respond to the inquiry through Yelp over the weekend and stated the project sounded like it would fall under their minimum service fee of $173.25. He provided us with the office number in the event that we wanted to go ahead and schedule. My wife called the office on Monday morning and they agreed on a time that afternoon where Damon could come by and look at the project since he was already in our area. Damon was on time and walked through the project with me. We agreed the work could be done the following afternoon. On Tuesday afternoon Damon came by and within 45 minutes or so had everything working properly. He was friendly and efficient. We didn't initially want to spend the money to hire an electrician but figured that in the grand scheme of things the money was well spent because we know it was done correctly, for less than $200.00. We really appreciate the quick response and are very happy that our exterior lights are now set up. The other two companies did respond to our initial response but were unable to conduct the work within our time frame. We will definitely call KD Electric if we have further needs and will refer them to friends in the area! read more

Hot tub install. $$$$$ I was quoted from Katrina between 1-2k for the job without someone coming out to do a bid. I had a lengthy conversation with her that I wanted no surprises, and I would prefer a bid before they started. They ran a line from an existing breaker outside in metal weather-proof conduit to my new hot tub, with an interrupter that I supplied in between. $1400 in labor for 3 guys for 5 hours with 1 journeyman and 1 apprentice (I'm a doctor and I barely made $100 an hour coming out of residency in 2019, so yikes!), plus supplies. Charged initially $2299.14, but adjusted down to 2k based on my earlier conversation and they never provided an initial bid. Based on my conversation with Katrina I thought it would be closer to 1-1.5k with a straight forward install, but I can't say that assumption was founded on anything concrete (*upon further investigation $800-1600 is pretty standard for the work I had done in my area*). They seemed to truly care about making it right and walked me through the itemized charges. I was too flustered and downright pissed-off to even think to break down the labor cost and try to negotiate more aggressively (my fault for getting emotional there). The crew was awesome and easy to work with, and even fun to have around. They were very respectful and professional. They were here for 5 hours with a 1 hour lunch in the middle for a total of 6 hours, and didn't appear to be screwing around, but stayed on task, and they cleaned up after themselves. I would give 5 stars if I didn't have the sticker shock at the end. I take responsibility for not getting a legitimate bid before letting them start work. I was tempted to give 1-2 stars because of the price from what I was expecting, but they seem like a legitimate company that does good work. Buyer beware- get a bid up front and know average costs in your area. read more

They came out and gave me an estimate right away and when I called them a few weeks later to say I was ready to set up a time to have the work done they were very accommodating to my business schedule. Update: Tone of the KD's response says it all. There was a plan and didn't include 3 guys taking 5hrs to install one chandelier. Literally. 3 years framing, 3 years in the SF labors union and 3 years driving truck. Slacking is obvious. I can't recommend KD electric. I worked with them on a hourly basis - crew wasn't very productive for the rate. We also had lighting installed that was left loose and incorrectly wired switches that needed to be reinstalled at our expense. Further they increased the agreed upon rate without notice and then ownership got verbally aggressive when I called to question the billing. read more

The last 2 winters we had ice dams cause damage to our roof. The previous summer we were unable to get an electrician out to install the system and we had a really big winter and lots of damage. Fortunately our roofer connected us with KD Electric and they quickly installed an ice melt system. We are happy with their prompt service and the quality of their work. After last winter and a roof leak we decided to put in a permanent ice melt system. KD Electric responded right away and came and assessed our existing electrical system and put together a plan to add the 220 needed for the ice melt system. They coordinated with the roofing company and all electric (and roofing) work was completed in a couple weeks. If you are installing a new TV, they are way too expensive. I paid $777 for two guys to mount my new TV on a wall rack, and plug in the already-existing HDMI cable. The TV wall mount cost them $97 (I saw the price tag) -- I already had the new TV, sound bar, and all the cables. They didn't know how to mount the sound bar, and finally I pointed out that it had brackets in the box with it. They took so long trying to figure out how to use a sound bar rack they had bought (but didn't need, even though the owner had already seen the box that the sound bar came in), that they rushed out after only confirming that the TV turned on and was connected to HDMI 1. They didn't check to see that it worked with my blue ray device (it did, after I set it up myself). Damon and the guys were nice -- but way too expensive for the service they provided. I could have paid a handyman less than half that price. I wish I had known, and been able to save the money! read more

I had the most wonderful experience with two young men from KD Electric. They were schedule for 8 am this morning to replace twenty can lights with LED lights. They arrived exactly on time and showed me how the new lights worked and how I determine the color and intensity. They put in one light and changed the settings until I found the one I liked. We needed to have a fan/light replaced and they came out right away. The guys (2) were on time, and got quickly to work. They were friendly, and tried to be as out of the way as you can be, while standing on a ladder in the middle of the room. The owner of KD stopped in to check on the work when it was about done and to get paid. The work they did was 5 star worthy, but their pricing is a bit high. $185 for a ceiling fan/light. We need all the lighting replaced in the house eventually, and the quote we were given per light seemed high and as a result I think at the very least we need to get a couple more estimates for the cost of the work. read more

We live in an area where it's hard to get services as it's a little outside of town, so I assumed either the job was too small or we were just too far out. I was mistaken. I wanted to revise that original review as the business owner, Damon, got in touch with me almost immediately after I posted the review. He assured me that he would have gotten in touch with me again, but does get quite a few messages each day so there's the possibility it could have been forgotten. 5+ Damon and his crew are FANTASTIC. I had an electrical fire in my attic which resulted in my whole house being rewired up to current code standards. What a great experience during a difficult time. My fire occurred Jan. 17, 2019 and Damon & his crew showed up every FREEZING day for work with excellent attitudes even though my house never got above freezing and there were no utilities. They have worked non-stop for 3 weeks. Damon was excellent to communicate with and always helpful even when it wasn't actually his responsibility. KD electric was a contractor assigned from American Home Shield so I had no choice but to use them when our circuit blew on our air conditioning unit. It took a week to get them out, they were here for 10 min, said they needed more than an hour to fix anything and needed to submit a request to AHS for the work. 2 weeks goes by and nothing. No calls no appointment. They lied and said they submitted paperwork when they didn't. When AHS called them asking for documentation, their secretary Gloria had to call me, the homeowner, to ask what the electricians said to me because they had not documented anything. 3 weeks goes by and finally they submit such unclear paperwork to AHS that AHS paid for a second opinion. Now I get to wait another week for another electrician to do what KD electric should have done in the first place. KD electric is unorganized, mismanaged, lacks complete urgency and just gives no f's. Buyer beware. read more
