I hope you have the attention span of a Grey's super fan because buckle up party people!
My, now husband, had bought my engagement ring at Kay's in March 2020. He was told that with buying the ring from Kay's, the band and diamonds, are covered for life.
Fast forward. We get engaged May of the same year.
We go back to Kay's to shop for a wedding band. Surprise!
They've discontinued the collection with no warning!
Soooo, we discuss having a custom band put on the ring. They say, surreee! At the cost of an arm and your first born child. Hard pass. But, luckily, they say even if we choose to get a custom band else where they'll still cover their own diamonds. Kay's diamonds. Makes sense.

Fast forward to Oct 2020. We go to get it cleaned and inspected per the warranty club house rules. Lady takes it cleans it. Tells us it looks great see ya in another 6mo!
Fast forward again. Let the shenanigans begin.
March 21, 2021, my husband and I stop by Kay's to get my ring cleaned and inspected for the 1yr check. A man in a sweater denies us service because we don't have a mask. I'm just trying to drop the ring off on the counter and go else where until it's done being cleaned and inspected. He says "it's our new store policy. I can't serve you until you put a mask on." Makes sense I'd have an issue this time.

We leave.
I come back on Tuesday, 03/23/2021. A lady with red hair helps me. I've got a mask this time per club house rules. Still social distancing. And still not in the store.. I put the ring on the counter and step back. She takes it, cleans it. Then come the bitter words of betrayal they'd withheld for over 365 days. Ahh, I've been in this situation before. A trusted personal whom waited so long to tell me the truth. It's too late now.
"Since you had a custom band put on your ring the warranty is invalid."
What? This must be a joke. I've been here before. No one mentioned a thing! No email no slip of paper or contract saying this new information.
We were told the band and diamonds are covered.... that's why we got a custom band. That and the collection was discontinued so we couldn't even purchase the odd wedding band that was meant for the engagement ring.
I ask to speak to Sarah, the red haired lady continues, "she'll just tell you the same thing. Next!" I informed my husband Kay's will no longer honor their warranty because of the custom band.
I call the store. A woman named Deb answers. I tell Deb my situation. She says confidently, "Yes. Kay's band and diamonds are covered. But not the custom band." Deb, my saving grace. Alas.
Monday, 03/29/21, I return a third time. Hoping I can just get my ring inspected and done once and for all. Deb comes to the counter, she must remember me! Yes! Big hopes for Deb! Go Deb! Go Deb!
Deb takes the ring back, some small talk with sweater guy. Cheetah print this time. More my speed. She comes back up and says the ring is not covered. Convenient. Sweater guy comes up to me now. "It's store policy. Sorry. If we soddened the band we'd cover it. But because it was done by someone else we can't cover any of it at all." I ask, "So Kay's won't even cover their own diamonds?" He replies, "No. store policy. We can't be liable."
I ask why I wasn't told this 6mo ago when I came in. And then I ask for a copy of this new information. Deb and sweater guy vocalize they are unable to provide me with such paper work. Also convenient. And that it was noted on the account 6mo ago that the ring is not covered. So no written contract was given to me stating this information, let alone an email the day the note was made on the account.
Awesome work guys! Standing ovation. Never did get to speak to anyone in charge.
Final comment, just buy local. The big heads only look out for their own pockets.
P.S. Jewel Master has personally told my husband and I he will cover all the diamonds. (: read more
