3 large generous scoops of ice cream for $8.60 aftertax is a very good price these days for an ice cream retail establishment. However, we tried 6 of their flavors. Moose Tracks, Nanaimo Bar, Tiger Tail, Strawberry, Salty Caramel Truffle and Chocolate Peanut Butter. All were very good. Service was very good. Friendly and efficient. Felt welcomed right away. Ambiance was very simple. No place to sit down inside but on a nice day you can sit outside on the stoney/cement blocks. read more

As the summer winds down, we stopped by at the home of one of the best commercial ice cream makers in Ontario, Kawartha Dairy! They have stores across Southern Ontario, and their product can be found in grocery stores but it all began here in beautiful Bobcaygeon, Ontario. This is where all their magic happens as this is the headquarters and production plant in the middle of cottage country. They produce a variety of dairy products including milk, butter but they are best known for their fantastic ice cream! Creamy, rich and delicious, one of the best around. Scoops are massive for what you pay too! My favourite is probably the "Moose Track" which is vanilla ice cream with chocolate peanut butter cups swirled with Moose Tracks® fudge! Oh my! . Yes you can get the tubs in stores or check out their satellite stores but it's always fun check out where it's made! Unfortunately not a lot of flavours were available as they have not been able to keep up with summer demands. Socially distancing is observed at this time as you can't enter the store so please observe the rules. A must stop over when you are nearby! 4.5/5 for one of the best commercial ice creams around! While my mom, sister and I were strolling through the little town of Bobcaygeon, we decided to make a pit stop at Kawartha Dairy for an afternoon pick me up. We instantly fell in love with this ice cream shop because of the absolutely adorable set up. Everything is arrange so wellNot only do they have ice cream, but also all kinds of candies, lollipops, and chocolates. They also have some cute little items that would make for good gifts! We were greeted by the sweetest woman, welcoming us into her shop and telling us all about the menu. The amount of ice cream flavors they have is impressive! Luckily, she allowed us to try as many samples as we wanted which made our final selections so much easier. My mom and sister both chose the Creamy Orange, and I decided to indulge in the Salty Caramel Truffle. We were told that these are two of their most popular flavors which is not at all surprising. They were both great and I would highly recommend either of them! One thing to note is that the portion sizes are HUGE. All of us chose the kiddy size which was gigantic. I'm a big fan of ice cream and couldn't even get close to finishing. If you're trying to decide on what size to get, take a look at my photo - it might help you decide! Ice cream: I had a baby (!) scoop of Speculoos cookie ice cream on this particular visit. I've been here before but I guess I had forgotten just how massive these scoops are. I've had cookie butter ice cream from Trader Joe's before and so I wanted to try this out to compare before buying a whole tub of it to take home. I found it ok overall. It was creamy and there were pieces of Speculoos cookie but there was nothing that particularly stood out. It was kinda one note. There was a mild hint of cinnamon but that probably came from the cookie bits. My husband had the moose tracks flavor and it was amazing. The pieces of chocolate were huge! I highly recommend this. When I come back I will be buying a tub. My friend had the cookie dough but she noticed that there were very few pieces of dough. Service: Nice and efficient. You order your flavor, pay and then move aside. The signs are big so you know ahead of time what to expect. Overall experience: Good! You get a fairly decent value for the price you pay. The scoops are big! Even two people can share a baby scoop. I've been told that after dinner it gets packed so keep that in mind. I'll definitely come back here again to bring some home. There's a store inside where you can buy tubs in flavours that aren't found in local grocery stores (so make sure you bring a cooler!). read more

If you are vacationing in Kawartha cottage country, this is a must-stop in Bobcaygeon. Yes, this ice cream is sold in some grocery stores and specialty stores and it's good, but there's just something about the product that comes out of this location (where they actually have the dairy) that is out of this world creamy, sugar heaven. This location offers a scoop window, and a store for other treats like milk, cheese, frozen cookie dough and pre-packed pints of icecream. There are many flavour options here that aren't commercially available. My favs: creamy orange and banana. You can also get a "hand pack" pint of any flavour you want. Sizes are ridiculous. Baby= 1 massive scoop, small=2 and so on all the way up to "Huge" where I'm pretty sure they just pass you the whole drum out the window. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of quality ice cream you get. There are a few picnic benches out front to enjoy your cone/milkshake/sundae whathaveyou. Beware though, at peak hours the scoop window is VERY busy. They're fast, but be prepared to wait. read more

All of the shops, and restaurants in the area only sell Kawartha ice cream, but why go to the ice cream shop when you can go to the dairy! The shop itself has most of the flavors in 2 pint containers, along with other diary products including cheese curds for poutine! The ice cream is simple, and deliciously creamy, I know there are higher end ice creams, but the simplicity of their recipe speaks and tastes volumes. I was surprised they had so many flavors, yet the cream was the shining star. The flavor did not overpower the ice cream. They serve ridiculous amounts of ice cream per serving, I ordered a "one scoop baby cone" I would say it was the equivalent of 2 plus scoops of ice cream. I believe it cost $4. Kawartha Dairy ice cream is the best you'll ever taste. If you're ever in a town with Kawartha Dairy ice cream, you MUST get some! I visit the main location in Bobcaygeon most often. Prior to the May long weekend, you could get everything inside the store. Now that it's the official cottage country season, if you want an ice cream cone, you have to line up outside. Thankfully, up until now, there have not been any line ups when I've visited. But, in the dead of summer, especially on long weekends, the line ups get quite crazy. However, it is worth the wait! For ice cream cones, you can get a baby size, small or huge. And you can get all three sizes in a regular cone, waffle cone or cup. I usually get a small in a waffle cone -- and it's huge. I can't imagine how huge the huge size is if the small is so big! However, here is where I will give some criticism and why I took back 1 star. You have to pay extra for a waffle cone, which I completely understand and have no issues doing. BUT, if you want your ice cream in a disposable cup with a disposable plastic spoon, you pay the same price as a regular cone. This means that if the customer selects the non-compostable, wasteful option, they don't pay anything extra. Yet, if you select the edible, waffle cone option, you pay almost an extra dollar. I completely and totally disagree with this. To me it's sort of like the paperless bill option. If you select the non-wasteful option, you save money. If you select the wasteful option, you pay extra. Many companies charge $2 to send you a paper bill. I think if you want your ice cream in a wasteful cup, you should pay $2 extra. There are other options as well. One, allow people to bring their own bowls and spoons. Or two, provide reusable bowls for a deposit and give money back when those bowls are returned. If a "bring your own bowl" option doesn't work for health dept reasons, then use a reusable bowl to give the customer their ice cream and the customer can dump it into their own bowl and return the "serving" bowl. Kawartha Dairy could even sell branded reusable bowls, spoons and straws that customers can purchase and use right away. The world's greatest ice cream maker could catapult itself into the future by thinking about the waste they produce by serving disposable options. Think of the great and positive press and reputation that would get them! read more

By far I always felt that Kawartha is the best Ice Cream available in stores. Hence when me and my friends visites Kawartha we had to stop by the Ice Cream Factory. Now they do have Many flavors (with Moose Tracks being the favourite) but i wanted to try flavours that i couldnt find in in Toronto. Deciding to fo big i took 3 scoops (kinda a big mistake as each scoop was HUGE!!!). Had the blueberry cheesecake, truffle trio, and sweet heat. The cheesecake was light, truffle heavy, but the surprise was the sweet heat. Sweet heat is a caramel ice cream with some chilli in it hence it is sweet and spicy at the same time. There are many flavours there. Whatever you choose it will be delicious and please remember: you get a huge scoop! (A guy actually said: thats a small?!? Lol) read more
