a view of a coffee shop

I'm sitting here sipping a nice, rich cup of Americano while Mrs is shoe shopping next door... I relly dig the cosy atmosphere here, and a bunch of people occupying the tables around me having a lively convo. Most indy coffee shops I visit, I ask them where their beans come from. Not that care that much about the beans. But I do care that they care. Most places, you get the puzzled, "I dunno... from the bag, I think." The guy here gave me a riveting story how they have to track down good beans based on the changing wearher patterns in various regions, agricultural practices, etc. An obvious expert.

Awesome lattes and coffee! They also have a really interesting, fresh menu that changes often. A great coffee shop.

However, today I was made to feel different from everyone else. In my 40+ years of life I have never felt like this. I understand if you're busy and not having a good day, that's fine. But when a customer comes in and asks if they could grab one of the tables outside, treat them as customers. That's all I ask. Instead, I'm greeted with a questionable look, cut-eye and a curt "You can if you want. I'll be with you when I can." Ok. Fine. I take a seat with my family outside and we patiently wait. Over 20 minutes pass and we see customers come and go. Kids are hungry. Husband enters to see if we could get takeout instead. He comes out and just quickly says, "We're leaving." They didn't want our business so we happily gave it to Tim's instead where we were treated well just like everyone else.

Not sure how to characterize it so I'll just describe the experience. We (two people) wanted to order a a regular coffee, an iced coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. The lady, after listening to the first item, just went back to make it. In the meantime, another lady came and asked if we mind getting another customer ringed up. We were like, sure! In some time, the first lady came back with the iced coffee and asked if that was it. Now, I don't know why a barista would assume an order of just one coffee between two people. I said I'd like a regular coffee as well. And before I could continue to order the bagel with cream cheese, she turned around to pour the regular one. In the meantime, the other lady came again asking us if we'd be okay with another customer ringed up. It was a bit weird (certain customers made to wait while others allowed to skip the line?). We left skipping the bagel order, sensing that perhaps we were not welcome there. Coffee was okay but this was first of its kind of experience for us in Canada. And on "Canada Day", of all the days!

This place is heaven for your inner geek. Old school board games, a pac man machine and a war-hammer painting station line the walls and floor of this place. We ordered a London fog from the counter. I was excited to see a beautiful selection of teas, there was definitely an emphasis on oriental teas and not as much variety as say, a David's tea but still very nice and a lot of nice lattes and mixed tea drinks on their menu. The London fog was actually fantastic and different from any I've ever had and the girl serving us was bubbly and nice. The strangest and most interesting part of this place has to be the single barbers chair and barber cutting hair at the back of the store. This guy has his own little studio at the back of this coffee shop and it seems to be popular. One of the servers had to turn away a client and said that he was booked up for the day. All-in-all this is an eclectic place that I feel prides itself for it's uniqueness. It's warm and welcoming and if you make an appointment, you can also get your hair cut!
