We drove to bobcaygeon for the day last minute and were looking for a place to eat when we found the Wheatsheaf cafe. They weren't too busy so we got to choose our own table. Stumbled upon this place while staying at a cottage about 20 minutes away! Loveeeeeee visiting little towns for awesome restaurants like this one :D WHAT WAS AWESOME: [MUSHROOM & TWO CHEESE PANINI] $14.50 - All paninis comes with a side of cajun fries, house or caesar salad, or the soup of the day! - My goodness, this was absolutely delicious - The panini had sauteed mushrooms, onions, provolone, and mozzarella all served on sourdough [GRILLED VEGETABLE AND MOZZARELLA PANINI] $14.50 - Get the cajun fries as a side because my goodness, I would make the 1.5 hour drive just for them again! - Grilled eggplant, zucchini, red bell peppers, mozzarella all on ciabatta that has been slathered with a generous helping of pesto - Extremely flavorful and scrumptious! Originally I desired to go to a cafe that had just closed down the weekend prior, for the season. Sadly, Wheatsheaf was number 2 on my list. However, they delivered on all accounts. Greeted and seated promptly upon entry. Shortly thereafter are orders were taken and within 15mins (probably less) our orders, tabled. Seamless. Absolutely scrumptious food. An 11 out of 10 from my books. I got the Chicken Gumbo soup and I will tell you it was seasoned perfectly. I usually add hot sauce however, I certainly did not need that at all. The best feature of this soup was not the chicken, or the heat, yet the Okra in it. I know you hear Gumbo, and you automatically think Southern food, from Naw'lins (New Orleans) what is commonly associated with food from down South is Okra, the two inseparable. For some reason my mind didn't clue in. And I was actually so excited when I saw the pretty little okra stars in my soup. AMAZING! Loved that the soup also came with toasted baguette, or was it garlic bread as its side. On top of me ordering a salad. What a delicious meal. And the ladies working the dining room had such a beautiful flow between them. Always doing something that's what I was taught when I worked in a restuarant. After all, there is always something to be done, so make yourself look busy! These ladies definitely follow suit. Wheatsheaf Cafe - The best gumbo soup I've had! With a side of toasty garlic baguette and a side salad. DER-LISH. - Cafes Near Me - Kawartha Lakes, Ontario

I hesitated giving the Wheatsheaf Cafe 3 stars. It's probably more like 3.5 stars. I visited the cafe one afternoon after running a bunch of errands in town. Due to the time of year, many places aren't open or have reduced hours. This cafe was one of the few places open and considering it's name, I thought it would be a comfy, inviting place to get a snack and drink. I'm not sure I would use the words comfy or inviting to describe the Wheatsheaf Cafe. The cafe was setup more like a typical restaurant but with no table service. There were only wood tables and chairs, so no real comfy seating, and the layout and decor was almost ... clinical. It's hard to describe, but it almost didn't have an identity. It was also completely empty when I visited at 2pm on a Tuesday and I discovered they actually closed at 3pm. Turns out they only opened at 11am. I'm not sure if they have longer hours in the summer, but being open 4 hours a day doesn't seem like enough. However, if they get no business, then I guess there's no point in being open. Being as Bobcaygeon is a quaint little town in what could be considered cottage country, I would expect little cafes to have a small town feel with personality. I would expect comfy chairs and maybe a tall table with stools at the window to watch outside while you eat. I also felt like it really needed a fireplace -- even if it wasn't a real fireplace, but something that added some warmth and comfy-ness to the environment and larger windows. Being as it was on overcast day, it ended up really dark and almost gloomy inside the cafe. Wall sconces or candles would have helped a lot to cheer the place up. I had a tea and a Caesar salad. They were both okay, but nothing exceptional. They had a limited selection of tea, so I had plain old orange pekoe. The salad had very yummy and obviously homemade croutons, but the dressing was more vinegary than creamy. The two people working there seemed nice, but the cafe was so quiet I could hear their conversation in the kitchen. I feel very weird writing such a review. It seems to me that the Wheatsheaf Cafe could be an awesome place if it tried a wee bit harder. And Bobcaygeon could use a nice, warm, comfy, inviting cafe with personality in the winter. I might try going back in the summer to see if there's a difference, but I probably won't visit again in the winter. read more

Nice place, clean, stylish, good food, but way to expensive for the portion served. I had the meal sized apple walnut salad $13.95. It was Delilah but was very tiny. Was the size of what you would see in most restaurants as a side salad. Our other meals where paninis with side salads. The sides salads where so small I would calk it plate decorations and not salad. When we left we were all still hungry. Lunch for 3 = $70 before tip for. Apple juice, tea, beer, 1 entree salad, 2 paninis. Don't think I'll be back. read more

Everything is alright. Soups, sandwiches and salads are delicious. Clean environment.
