    Khachapuri Po-Adjarski

Armenian and Georgian cuisine are very sparse in the broader South Florida culinary scene. Enter Kavkaz, which is located in a strip mall in North Miami Beach, about 10 minutes south of Aventura Mall. This gem is located in a unique cultural enclave that is different from other areas of Miami-Dade County. My fiancée and I came on a Saturday night and were able to be accommodated without reservations (reservations are highly recommended here-- and you need to call in to make them). This is when most locals seem to gather here to enjoy some great food and live music. We ordered the following dishes: Khinkali Dumplings (Beef Dumplings): these are large dumplings packed with beef and soup. These are not your usual "appetizer" sized dumplings, and are definitely on the thicker serving size. Khachapuri Po-Adjarski: special pie with cheese and egg yolk, mixed table side. Think of this as a Georgian pizza topped with an egg. WOW! Chicken Shkemruli: pan-fried chicken cooked in a creamy/milk-based sauce with plenty of garlic. Kavkaz Cake: thin slices of sponge held together by whipped cream, caramelized condensed milk, meringue, and walnuts. Every dish we had was phenomenal. For anyone dining here for the first time, we'd say the Khinkali Dumplings and any of the Khachapuri choices are must orders! The Kavkaz Cake was also a sweet treat to end our dinner. However, they have plenty of other traditional Georgian and Armenian pastries to order, as well as a variety of proteins on the kebab and an interesting selection of wine by the bottle to order. We were stuffed at the end of this dinner and can't wait to return to Kavkaz! When people say Miami lacks in other "cultural" cuisines, I would encourage them to look outside of the neighborhoods they regularly frequent. Kavkaz and other gems are certainly out there!

My first visit to this Georgian Armenian restaurant and it was fun exploring this cuisine. Everything was tasty and well prepared and our server was attentive and knowledgeable about each dish. When you go, parking is usually available in spaces out front but all bets are off on Friday and Saturday nights when the entertainment is on.

I had been looking forward to trying Kavkaz for awhile, specifically since learning food names in Russian class. I finally had the chance last night since I was in the area for a midweek dinner. Granted I was one of the few patrons there and didn't have the chance. But the "taste" I got yesterday left me wanting to go back on weekends when it seems to be livelier. Kavkaz is at the end of a strip mall right on Biscayne and near Sunny Isles, and has both inside dining as well as terrace dining. The inside space had a nice jazzy background music and a small stages I believe they have live music on weekends. My waiter was attentive and gave me a great description on the dishes. I did leave portions on my plate but did enjoy what I tasted, starting with the natural pressed cranberry juice he suggested. I started with their Kachapuri- cheese bread. At Kavkaz, I'll refer to how a fellow foodie described it. It's a deep dish pie, with a yummy thin crust filled with a gooey warm cheese. Kavkaz' has a nice surprise - a runny egg ("yitzo") that adds flavor to this tasty pie. My other plate was a "Satcivi" Comparable to a cold creamy gazpacho with chicken breast, the plate is well flavored with a walnut base. I didn't have a chance to try dessert, but between that and the live music, I hope to be back.

Kind of a mediocre experience. I ordered borscht and khachapuri. The borscht was plain and meatless, in a very small bowl for a price of a good entrée. The khachapuri was okay but also not anything special; very savory. The service was just bad: the server didn't care to answer my mom's questions and was looking very... uninterested in us. They include tips in the bill by default but won't tell you that.

Best dining experience while vacationing in Florida! We even went twice in the same week! Everything was delicious!!! From khachapuri to the khngali amazing 5 star service and food. We were lucky to have Vladimir the waiter both times and he went above and beyond to make our time enjoyable. Beautiful atmosphere and decor. Very clean restaurant and "like home"cooked delicacies. Looking forward to our next trip to Florida to visit again.

I hope everyone gets to try this amazing cheesy bread at least one time in their life. Khachapuri was by far the star of this show. Don't let the raw looking egg intimidate. It gets mixed in and cooks in the hot cheese and adds to the creaminess. Scoop the cheese up in the fluffy bread and you've got a winner. Other than this I had a sampler of spreads, since it was pretty much that or borscht as far as non-salad veggie options for. The dips were pretty good. Nothing mind blowing but I enjoyed. Our server was super nice and very kind and generous, esp. with his wine pours. That said, wow Georgian wine is good. Georgia has a long history of wine making and it showed in the quality white wine we had. I will be back for wine and delicious cheesyness again no doubt.

We needed a place for lunch and this came highly recommended. Georgian food has been featured in the food magazines for a while, so I was curious. We sat in a booth - a bit uncomfortable with a very deep seat, but it worked. We decided to share a khachapuri (simply put a type of cheese pie) and a chachushuli (a dish of stewed veal or beef). Both were served pooping hot and delicious. The cheese pie was a thin yeasty dough filled with luscious ooey, gooey cheese. I wanted to know what "herb" were in the stew, it, too, was delicious. The meat was fork tender. Service ... we were the only customers. Our server was just fine, she helped us order and was ok. I'd go back. Only thing, rules are changing and no one working there wore masks ...

AMAZING food and not so amazing service. I'm so sad to give it 4 stars - I'd give it 10 stars for food and 2 stars for service. A complimentary bread basket would also be nice. Food: I've been searching for a good khachapuri adjaruli in the Miami area for a few months now and all my previous tries weren't good. The one from Kavkaz is just the best - very authentic. In addition I tried the Kavkaz plate - a mix of 3 kinds of pkhali (spinach, beets and beans) and eggplant rolls. It was also very delicious. My husband tried the chicken kabob with grilled vegetables and a side of mashed potatoes. He said it was the best chicken he had in a while! The grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes were also very tasty. In addition we ordered the bread basket - lavash - it was very hot and delicious. As for drinks, we got Russian beer Baltika 7, Georgian sparkling water and Turkish coffee. Price and ambiance: the prices are reasonable. Our check was only $88 for all the food and drinks. We went for early dinner on Saturday night - when we were leaving around 8pm, the live music started. Service: The service was bad. Noone greeted us initially, the server wasn't friendly at all. She was very slow, we finished food and waited for her for about 20 mins. She forgot that we ordered bread and had to come back and check on it. I'll definitely come back to try more dishes!

It's an amazing cozy place with incredible food! You could feel good energy there; you had a place to dance and excellent live music (Saturday night). Would recommend this place to everyone!

Ararat, is exactly that. While the restaurant is Armenian, it appeals heavily to all Eastern Europeans in the area, more heavily Russians and Ukrainians. It's a place that shows that despite everything going on in the world, here, all are friends sharing a wonderfully cheesy khachapuri from the table. The live music is something else, with talented Armenian singers and melodies that are as soulful as life itself. Aside from the khachapuri cheese pies, the kharcho soup is phenomenal. There are Armenian and Georgian wines on the menu, which really cannot be missed. The vibe is truly transformative into a land far away from Miami and perhaps, even a different time. We were whisked inside to the intimate, dimly lit interior with a DJ table tastefully tucked away in the back of the space. Service was welcoming but overall, not quite as warm and attentive as I've experienced at other places in town. We started off with the Turkish Manti Dumplings, which were the standout of the night. The complexity yet restraint of flavor, balancing indescribable buttery, roasted, earthy notes with a touch of umami and subtle tanginess from the yogurt. The Mezze Sampler was a nice option for trying three of the dips. All very tasty, but I've had slightly better elsewhere. The Sweet Jeweled rice was the other standout with flavor and textural variety that made each bite pop. I found the Roasted Brussels Sprouts undercooked and lacking the same level of flavor as the other plates. The weakest dish of the evening. The Grilled Whole Bronzino got top marks from the meat eaters at the table. Overall, 4/5 stars for a delicious meal but with tough competition around town limiting my ability to hit that 5.
