Not the best cinema in the world. This little place has two screens and a tiny cramped foyer that…read morefor some reason they decided to shove two sofa's in. I visited recently with a lady friend and my little brother to watch a movie he wanted to see. When I got there (we hadn't reserved) I was surprised to find that not only could we sit in the exact seats we wanted to sit in, but also that it would only cost £3.50 each. £3.50 to watch a popular new release, by any standards is a brilliant price. This was a midday/early afternoon viewing and I am aware that the prices get dearer in the evening but compared to larger national cinemas the price was quite amazing. My little brother decided, since we hadn't had time to fill our bags with cheaper sweets from the supermarket, to go and buy some popcorn from the lovely young lady at the sweetie counter. Now we all know cinemas have you over a barrel with this one and normally I would have said no but he insisted. So he went off and came back with a huge tub of popcorn. When I asked him what it cost he smiled and said not much she gave me the wrong change. So the popcorn cost him £2 or so. One more tick for the Kavanagh. So off we went into the first screen to watch the film, off to the front we trotted. Two or so hours later we emerged, necks stuck in crane position and backs and bums firmly numbed. The film was enjoyable and as my brother chose the front seats I can't blame the cinema for my neck or back ache but can blame them for the bum ache, caused by the old seats. I am glad there is still an independent cinema in Herne Bay. It makes you feel the place isn't going down hill after all. Although they had several problems and they did close for a while they are now alive and kicking. Try getting an afternoon viewing as its cheaper and reserve your seats just to be on the safe side.

A nice little cinema although odd lay out, seem to be longer narrower cinemas! I like it, although dont get to visit often, i hope to visit more in the future. Reasonably priced and a good range of films

My partner and I love sitting at the back, its a simple treat that cheers us both up. The second smaller screen is very intimate and is enjoyable when it is quite empty but I find it quite annoying if it is full up and there are people chatting or messing around. This is my one complaint about this cinema, I have seen quite a bit of silly behaviour from groups of teenagers and I know that this can be difficult for staff to deal with. I do much prefer this cinema to the big cineworld in Ashford for atmosphere and price, the only reason we would go to ashford is if the film we wnted to see wasn't on in Folkestone.

The seats in the larger theatre are a little small and uncomfortable but the ones in the right hand theatre have been replaced. What I love about this place is they still have a reasonable policy on charging for popcorn and sweets its only a little more than the shops, whereas at the larger multiplexes you end up paying more for a drink and pop corn than you did for the theatre tickets. This place is never a busy as a multiplex and its great for when you want to go to a new release film but cant be doing with the crowds at the multiplexes. Friendly staff, although it is upstairs so not good if you are disabled or need help.

There are other, better options in Maidstone and Ashford, but locally, this is the option if you want to see something in its first run. There are only two screens, and the theaters themselves are the highlight of the experience. They both have excellent seating and interesting architectural details. Staffing, film options and concessions are the biggest gripes. The staff is congenial enough, but once I had to go back to the stand three times (once after the film had already started) before I finally got my hot dog. Most of the hot food is made to order, which is nice because it's fresh, but it means waiting around a long time to get it. Theaters aren't open until about 15 minutes before showtime. There isn't anything wrong with this, per se, but there's limited waiting space, which means that busy films cause clogged staircases. There's a little seating area on the ground floor, but no one really uses it. Finally, if you want to see a film, go the first weekend it plays. If you wait until the second or third weekend, it might not be there anymore. All in all, a serviceable cinema, but only because this is all there is in Canterbury.

This is fine if you are seeing a short film, but unfortunately it has more seat occupancy so this screen still gets used a lot. Like i found out when i went to see lord of the rings....my legs were numb after that! Good choices of snacks. £££ though.
