With zero reviews on yelp - until now - and 40+ good ones on TripAdvisor, I wound up at Kavali Restaurant the old fashioned way: While standing outside considering it two separate people walked by and told me it was great.
The menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming. I focused in on the "Chef's All Time Specials" and the "Signature Dishes", each sounding better than the last. The menu is coded to identify dishes as medium, hot, very hot, and extremely hot. I asked for my order to be medium hot and though very good it was still so spicy that I navigated around much of the saucy part, focused on the protein, and consumed a whole lot of water and rice. You've been warned.
On the date of my visit the server walked me through a completely empty main/front room to seat me in a nicely appointed but windowless space in back. He said the front room was booked and I soon understood that he was truth-telling. That space soon filled up to capacity with a single, very large group and the service in the back room seemed to suffer as a result.
Kavali serves very good (and spicy) Indian fare. I don't hesitate to recommend a visit but only if you are seated in the front room when a huge party is not on their books. read more
