We just finished an 8 hour private tour with Jeremiah. It was AMAZING. Our party consisted of 8 adults, ranging in age from 28 to 61. He picked us up at our hotel in a comfortable van and off we went towards the Napoli Coast, and into Weilea Canyon. Jeremiah's knowledge of all things Kauai really made the trip. But what sets him apart from other tours we have taken was his knowledge of weather conditions and how they would effect our visit. Kauai in December has very unpredictable weather patterns. Once Jeremiah realized our original plan would be shrouded in fog, he quickly suggested two alternatives and away we went. The hike he took us on was breathtaking. No other folks around. His patience with my slow pace never ended. He made the 3 hour hike pass quickly as he showed is his deep knowledge of the native plants, history of the area and suggested best ways to tackle the rugged terrain. He even knew enough to have us pre-order our yummy lunch at the Koke Lodge so we would not have a long wait after our hike. I highly recommend this comapny. read more

We had a wonderful hike with Chris. Chris was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where the trail was. The hike would have definitely taken us AT LEAST 2x as long without his guidance. He taught us about the weather/water conditions and about the plants we encounter on our hike. He even helped us find some amazing guavas on the way back and opened up a fresh coconut for us when we finished. The hike we picked was challenging and so much fun! The felt-bottom shoes (provided by Chris) made a huge difference; regular hiking boots or keens sandals would have taken us much longer to get through the mud without slipping and wouldn't really workout for the creek crossings. read more

My husband and I plan a lot of our travel around hiking - not super technical but challenging and we've learned it often pays to secure the services of a reputable local guide and we've hiked Kauai before and learned once you are off the NaPali coast trail the thick undergrowth and slippery clay inclines with very sudden and steep drop-offs - it is challenging. Scott was very accommodating in finding a trail that met our desires (not to far from where we were staying - but still challenging with some nice views and scenery along the way) - and communicated when's and where's great. He met us as directed on-time and was warm and possesses a great energy. Scott clearly has made an effort to know Kauai - and shared great information about the land, history and especially the amazing plantlife that surrounds you. He also let us feast on the strawberry guava that were in season along the trail. One comment we did share with Scott was that it would have been a more enjoyable hike has we known to bring (or at least been warned) long pants or some sort of leg protection (longer socks) as for a long section of the hike the dry fern underbrush was very unpleasant though completely manageable and he did help one of us come up with a creative and effective solution when it did get to be a bit too much. I suspect for the local market, Scott and his team are "Excellent" - though not quite as polished in overall client prep as some other places we've been. But we'd absolutely recommend him to our friends. read more

I'm back in Boston, after an unbelievable trip- thanks to this company. Usually I hike alone in The Whites, but wasn't going to risk it in an area where I was unfamiliar- plus, I'd probably miss the good stuff coupled with an injury. So I hired Andrew & Makana for 2 different days, and what glorious experiences they were. I got canyon tops, jungle valleys, waterfalls- and what appeared to be a deserted beach as there were only 3 of us for as far as they eye could see. Imagine that- a private beach in Kauai? Possibly what is the most important to me, is to have these experiences with good people. Knowledgeable, wholesome, down-to-Earth, kind, sensible, great humor... I could go on. Andrew definitely enriched our time on Kauai and we highly recommend booking with him! My wife and I were looking for a guide to take us around Waimea Canyon and luckily found him as a guide! He's extremely responsive and communicative and very professional. Easy going and extremely knowledgeable! He drove us around the park and showed us a few incredible vista points but then took us on a back country tour of the canyon leading us to the upper point of the falls. He asked us what we wanted to see and tailored the day around it. We barely saw any other tourists. All the while he was telling us about the flora and fauna and filling us in about Kauai/Hawaiian history. We stopped at local coffee spot, and he capped off the tour with a fresh coconut for us to share. Great guy, great tour! Chris was a great guide for my 3 day hiking trip. He was very professional and alot of fun. It was the most amazing trip I've been on.

Andrew took us out to the Wailua Headwaters ("Blue Hole") at the base of Mount Waialele and we had the most unforgettable and incredible day! He was extremely knowledgeable not only about the route but also about the local flora and fauna. He brought along tabis, fresh squeezed orange juice from his garden, and drove us out to the trailhead with a much needed 4x4. Couldn't recommend this guided tour enough! Elisha from Kauai Hiking Adventures guided us on an fun-filled day to the North side of Kauai. He was a last-minute stand-in as our original scheduled guide was called away for another group. We visited Hanalei town, went to Hanalei beach for kayaking and SUP, Tunnels beach for snorkeling. We saw a huge cave near Tunnels beach and then went to Queens Bath, a huge tide pool where we dove off the lava rocks into the water. Not quite 5 stars though - our snorkeling experience was not the best - equipment malfunction, murky water - and a mishap with a sea urchin - however Elisha did his best on short notice to accommodate us and that was much appreciated! read more

My husband and I were interested in taking a hike while on our honeymoon in Kauai. We're both in good shape, but we're not serious hikers, and this was the perfect experience for us. David took us on a half day hike to Ho'opi'i Falls near Kapa'a, and it was one of the best experiences we had on the island! The two falls we hiked to were both beautiful, and David made us feel completely at ease, so much so that we didn't hesitate to jump right in the first fall! David was extremely knowledgeable and told us lots of interesting stories about the plants, animals, and the island. The hike was just challenging enough without being too much. What a perfect hiking experience for some novice hikers from a big city! My husband and I recently visited Kaua'i on our honeymoon. We knew while there, we wanted to get out and see some of the beautiful waterfalls this island has to offer. After some research online, I stumbled across Kaua'i Hiking Adventures' website. And thank goodness I did... They offer personalized and private hiking adventures at a reasonable price. I coordinated with the company's owner, David, only a few days before our hike was to take place. I told him we wanted to see some remote waterfalls where we could maybe do some swimming and (small) cliff jumping if possible. I also explained to him that although we are in pretty good shape, we are by no means avid hikers and did not want to do anything crazy challenging. David said he knew just where to take us, and that our guide would be Jennifer. Jennifer was awesome! We met here at the Kapaa Public Library at 8:00am the morning of. We hopped in her ride and took a quick five minute drive in to a secluded residential/wooded area. From there she took us on what I'd call a "semi-trail" where we hiked for about 45 minutes in to stunning woods to one of the most beautiful waterfalls I had ever seen - Ho'opi'i Falls. There was actually a second waterfall nearby that was only another 15/20 minute hike from there. The second waterfall was more conducive for an easy swim, and allowed us to get up near the falls easily...this spot also had a rope swing! It would be a great spot for those with kids. After some swimming and fun there, we headed back to Ho'opi'i Falls so that my husband and Jennifer could jump off its small cliffs (maybe 20 feet) in to the deep clear waters below. SO cool!! Jennifer, sensing my husband's apprehension, was thoughtful enough to climb down in to the water before hand to test the depth of the water and to ensure it was a safe place for my 6'5" husband to jump. How awesome is that?! She obviously had our safety and comfort at the forefront of her mind the whole time. It was just a priceless experience, and one we'll never forget. Overall, our experience with Kaua'i Hiking Adventures was absolutely fantastic! We would highly recommend them to anyone - whether a beginner or a pro at hiking. They have a ton of knowledge of the island, and will be sure to take you on an adventure that fits your skill set and desires. Hit them up! Be sure to ask for Jennifer as your guide!!! read more

Amazing!!! I had a unique request for Kauai Hiking Adventures. I decided to propose to my girlfriend while hiking Hanakapi'ai Falls. I wanted it to be something unique and different, so I reached out to Andrew and he was totally on board with my request. I decided to print out 12 large photos (20x30 inches) and have Andrew go up the trail and ahead of us and hang them on trees during the last mile. I mailed them a week before I arrived. Knowing there wouldn't be service on the trail, Andrew and I coordinated a few days before. During the last mile, my now finance' - she said yes, thank God ;-), saw the first picture was in view. It was when we first met 4 years prior. In chronological order, Andrew did a great job hanging the remaining photos of our life/adventures together until I proposed under the waterfall. Andrew was already there snapping photos of the magical experience. There is no way I could have pulled this off without the help and professionalism of Andrew and Kauai Hiking Adventures. Scott from Kauai Hiking Adventures is awesome! My boyfriend and I wanted to hike to the back wall of Mt. Waialeale in July 2011, but knew we'd need an expert guide. Several blogs mentioned Scott as the best guide for this type of challenging hike so we contacted him. He called in response to our e-mail inquiry and he was cool right from the start - he clearly wanted to learn about us, what we were looking to do, etc. so that he could plan the best hike possible. Our hike was set for July 13. As it turned out, Scott was hoping to teach his colleague, Dave, the route to the back wall/headwaters so we were joined by Dave as well. The early morning greeted us with several rainbows, ushering us into an epic, 12-hour day of hiking, exploring and learning. We had a wonderful vacation in Kauai, but this hike was by far the best experience. Scott and Dave had a great mix of laid back attitude and intensity/focus (when warranted in the more technical sections), as well as deep knowledge of the island, route, plants and many other relevant topics. We knew it was a challenging hike, but we quickly felt comfortable with Scott as our guide. They were fun, knowledgeable, friendly and responsive to our needs. It didn't feel like an artificial guided tour; it felt like we had met up with two friends who are very skilled, knowledgeable hikers and outdoorsmen.
