Marla is very dedicated and spends a ton of time and attention during each of her appointments and is knowledgeable on a lot of hair techniques that I knew nothing about! Before coming to Marla I had never had my hair dyed before but she made the process so easy and we were able to transition to fun colors over the years such as purple, magenta, pinks and oranges! I have never left disappointed from Marla and I will not trust my hair with anyone else. You're paying for quality and experience when you go to her and she knows exactly how to handle different styles of hair, and will talk with you about suggestions and alternatives in the case that something might be better. Absolutely love Marla and her bubbly personality - super passionate hair stylist who is exceptional at what she does and it definitely shows in what she does! I'll be coming back here until (and if) I ever move out of the north east area!

My daughters, however, have textured hair and I wanted to treat one of my daughters to a cut from Marla because she is going on a very special trip and I wanted her to feel beautiful. Marla does not disappoint. I have included a picture of my daughter before her cut, sitting in the chair, and after the cut. I wanted her to feel beautiful & the new cut is helping her to feel that way.

Beauty comes from inside. Inside Christopher Brian Salon…read more Love is in the hair at CBS, and I'm hair for it. Its fearless leader and his team of stylists play with scissors for the shear fun of it, and are the ride-or-dyes you and your hair have been looking for. Nestled into the ground floor of Troy's beautiful Proctor's Theater building on 4th Street, with its highly decorative front facade of brick and marble covered in glazed terra-cotta, it's no surprise to discover that the salon's insides match its outsides. The interior is seriously sophisticated, with light and dark grey walls serving as the perfect contrast against the large floor-to-ceiling windows and big, beautiful green plants that call the bright window seats home. The main floor is a neat little grid of beautiful styling stations, and mirrors, plenty of mirrors - even full wall-length mirrors - except instead of feeling like you're trapped in a funhouse, you're lost at Barney's, and loving it. A fun feature I really loved: each stylist's station is equipped with a mini Husky or Stanley branded tool chest on wheels, including a massive tool chest at the makeup bar. So like, not only does it add a cool masculine feel to the chic space, but I love the message that sends to clients, like, "Yeah, we work with tools, too!" Nice flex, guys. The best seat in the house, however, is in Christopher Brian's chair. Sure, he has a slew of super talented hairstylists working with him, but Christopher Brian speaks hair; English is his second language, and I've never had a bad hair day with him. Facts. Christopher works incredibly fast yet extremely precise, and with the eye and talent of a professional who's been behind the scenes at NYFW. I've long been privy to his next-level hair skills, and I'm incredibly happy to be back in his chair once again. He works in every color of the color wheel, but he's a self proclaimed Blonde Lover/Expert/God, and those are my people, so hair I am! I would behoove anyone with a scalp, and a pulse, to visit Christopher Brian Salon, sink into a luxe chair, and let one of its awesome stylists give you the change you're seeking! In a sea of talented professionals in the Capital Region hair game, Christopher Brian and his team are definitely top-tier!

DISHONEST AND UNTRUSTWORTHY:…read more The owner was not forthcoming and honest when I spoke with her about coming to her studio. I had told her that I was interested in coming to her studio for a specific brand of hair color, and I also asked if she would wear a mask. Since she agreed to wear a mask, and she offered the hair color I wanted, so I became her client and have seen her three times. She did not follow through on both areas. She emailed all of her clients a few weeks ago and said she was dropping all of her products and was going with a one product instead. She did not explain why or what was in the product, etc. I figured I'd give it a try since my hair appointment was in a few weeks, and she was very particular about the products she used. I had my appointment scheduled for today. She emailed me a couple of days ago to make sure I had received her email about changing products. I told her I was still planning on coming and would like to hear more about the product, why she chose it, etc. when I came to see her to have my hair done. She then proceeded to provide reasons why she chose to change, which included that she had started to transition prior to the pandemic and waited because of the ammonia in the product and masking (she said it's problematic with the ammonia). She had not said anything about this previously. She had not said anything about mask issues prior to this, or that the new product contained ammonia. Again, this is TWO days before my appointment. When I said that I'd be wearing a mask and would like her to, she said she wasn't going to. She left it up to me about whether or not I wanted to continue with her. I replied that I found a solution that would work (she did not have to do anything or wear a mask). She then informed me this morning (hours before my appointment) that she couldn't accomodate my needs, etc. There were no negative exchanges between us, but she decided that it wouldn't work. I find her behavior to be dishonest and disconcerting. When she took me on as a client, she knew she was going to transition out of my hair color and not wear masks, but did not tell me. She also said she would wear a mask but reneged on that promise. She waited to the last minute to essentially communicate HER concerns about me coming with her new use of the product. I was flexible to accomodate my needs with these new changes; she was not. I have my birthday next week and planned concerts to attend, etc.. She left me hanging in a BIG way. Her treatment of me was very unprofessional. Warning: she is not trustworthy and is unprofessional in handling important issues. I recommend going somehere else.

It was nice and I was happy. I sent my daughter over for a manicure and she was charged $ 80.00 for a gel manicure. Included in this fee, is supposed to be a hand massage, which my daughter did NOT get. Unfortunately, one of the nails (on this regarded manicure-by Joan) came off either that same day or the next day. My daughter was very upset and called for an appointment to have the nail fixed. She was given an appointment with the woman who specializes in nails and this woman fixed her nail. The manicurist told my daughter that more of the nails were going to fall and she never should have had a gel manicure broker nails are too thin. My daughter was still upset because she paid $ 80.00 for what appeared to be a substandard manicure and called the salon again to complain-she felt she should not have been charged the full 80 dollars. She was told the owner would give her a call to discuss her concerns. This never happened-no one called her. I went back a few weeks later to get my hair done and I did not ask for a manicure. The hairdresser kept making comments about how great her manicures are. She must have given me this message 4-5 times. I didn't respond as it was obvious that she felt like she was right. Apparently, she is in the habit of giving gel manicures to people who shouldn't have them, not accepting any responsibility for a manicure that started falling apart within 24 hours all for the price of 80 dollars. No, I decided to write this review given the response of the hairdresser and the lack of response by the owner. Rather arrogant and egregious behaviour by both. I was happy with hair service, but not even that will get me to EVER go back.

I don't usually get my hair done at salons and I figured Rumors would be a fancier place to get a hair cut and get pampered. I had my hair done there a long time ago and at that time, I got a hair consultation before getting the cut and the girl was very good. I left there really loving my hair, but it his time, when the stylist called my name she immediately took me to get my hair washed and there was no consultation. As we were walking to the sink she asked me what I was getting done and I said I wanted to cut about 4 inches in the back and get curtain bangs and as I'm explaining how I wanted it, she cuts me off and goes yeah ok a cut and curtain bangs. So then she washed my hair and brought me to her chair. She cuts the 3-4 inches in the back super fast and then takes a few strands on the front of my face and cuts them straight across. I tell her the pieces are too thin and I wanted more hair to frame my face so then against her will she kinda takes a bit more hair and then again cuts it straight. Now, I have had curtain bangs before both done professionally and also cut by myself after watching tutorials and when you cut curtain bangs you do it in a layered way. Smaller on the inside and gradually longer to the outside so the fall across the cheek kind of a cascade. She just cut mine straight across. No layered look. No cascade. I literally could have done better myself at home but again, I wanted to get it done by a professional so they look even better than what I could do myself. This stylist looked rushed like she couldn't wait to get me off her chair. Once the cut was done, she proceeded to blow dry my hair but she never sectioned my hair to blow dry it. At every single other salon I've been to, every time they blow dry the hair, they always section it and put those sections up so they can dry the hair properly. This lady was just taking big chunks of my hair without sectioning it and blow drying it so fast and hard she was done in like 5 mins and I have thick hair so part of my hair still felt moist underneath. I never thought that going to a Salon like rumors, which can be much more expensive than other places and choosing a more experienced stylist, that I would leave the salon in much worse shape than anything I could've done myself at home. I guess it's time to find a better salon that doesn't make me feel like I'm bothering them when I tell them what I want to get done!!
