Carolina Classic - Shrimp & Grits
Brian C.

From the food to the service, everything was fantastic. My friend and I had a nice evening enjoying drinks and eating a great dinner at the bar top. The bartenders provide great service and were efficient in their work. The food came out in great timing and was super good. The dirty martini was solid and definitely started the evening off right. Thanks for having us!

I was searching for places online to eat that was elevated dining in Emerald Isle and this popped up. As soon as I saw the multiple pages of martinis, I was hooked. If you don't drink, they make a mean mocktail too. We ordered the seared tuna and salad with blackened prawns. This was my favorite meal on the island. The staff gave solid recs and it was a nice intimate dinner.

I'm not gonna lie, I've never had the food here, but the drinks are TO. DIE. FOR ! My Bestest Friend's mom lives in Emerald Isle and this is a staple that we go to daily. They have an entire menu dedicated to just martinis. Whether you want classic, dessert or something in between, they have a martini for you. Probably the best espresso martini I have had in the state of North Carolina. This is a very small bar with only two high tops and bar top seating for drinks. Michael is an amazing server and definitely ask for him!

Walked in here for our 3rd or 4th time surprised there wasn't a wait, even on a Tuesday at 6:30. We were immediately sat and our martini's were quickly delivered. This meal was the best we have had in a while. Wife got the filet cooked medium, which was perfect. I got the Tuna. The Tuna came with two sauces alternating on the plate of teriyaki and wasabi. This sweet and spicy mixture was wonderful with the tuna. Will definitely be going back again.

The best meal for the week goes to Katherine's. Everything was divine. I recommend a reservation or getting there with some time to spare. The service was incredible and everything we got was amazing. If you're in Emerald Isle this is a must! The martinis looked tasty as well. We had a wonderful experience. Service was timely and attentive. We arrived on a Thursday at 5:30, with plenty seating available. 30 minutes later the restaurant was packed. We really enjoyed most all the dishes we ordered, but couldn't finish the salad. Despite asking for light dressing, the salad was drenched and couldn't finish it. Yes the decor and ambiance can feel a bit outdated; we didn't mind. We felt welcomed, tended to and full. I wouldn't categorize this restaurant as fine dining, but worth another visit because we had such a great experience. I enjoyed the grouper special stuffed with crab. I agree with other reviews about the rice, flavorful but mushy consistency. I didn't understand the melted mozzarella on the steak. Fresh warm bread was yummy and complimentary.

The 1st the meal was so good we decided to come back for a 2nd time in one week. The 1st meal was an appetizer of lamb lollychops, it was delicious, came with 2 small chops cooked perfectly and an assortment of olives, berries, mint purée, etc. The only issue was the accompaniments were all cold, like really cold, like they had just picked everything from the cooler. But the lamb was perfect. I don't know if that was intentional or a mistake. Their free bread and dipping oil is nothing more than a bunch of ground black pepper in the bottom of a sauce cup with olive oil and a little balsamic. You can skip or ask for butter. Entree was seafood coquina, delicious. Salmon with lemon beure blanc is amazing. Skip the raspberry drizzle, it makes it too sweet and doesn't really add to the dish. Mixed vegetables were el dente and quite tasty. Smashed potatoes were hot, and overall delicious. What really turns me off is the ice cream scoop of rice. It looks like how you would be served at a school cafeteria or Army chow line with someone telling "next!" The rice was delicious but get a serving spoon and throw away the childish ice cream scoop. The martinis are all $15. I'm not sure who convinced them Ketel One is a premium vodka. I've been around vodka a long time and Kirkland is better than K1. We'll just agree to disagree. The 2nd meal was not nearly as good. The braised short ribs were ok, smashed potatoes were again hot and tasty but the mixed vegetables were way over cooked, even inedible. The stuffed grouper special was just awful. It was way overcooked, tough, even rubbery. I ate about half. Now the special vegetable, oven roasted Brussels sprouts were mushy, flavorless, and cold. I did not eat. Yuck. The place was packed, it was our last night at Emerald Isle so this was truly our last meal. I'm not complaining this late in the game, we had already been there forever. But waiting forever for your meal really gives you time to look at the decor. The 80's called and they want their pumpkin colored paneling back. And the beige orange sponge painted walls need updated along with a good dusting of the decor. Their logo name still uses the cartoon font, it needs updated to an elegant font. Chairs are very uncomfortable. A more elegant color and decor would go a long way in updating this place. Very limited hours, verify before going.

The meal was delicious but to be honest a bit overpriced for what we got. The martinis were good and a large variety to choose from.

The food is great but the staff and waiters are rather snobby and rude. Doesn't effect me much but it is rather disrespectful.

This place is the real deal. You definitely pay a lot. However, the food is absolutely worth the price you pay. This is a restaurant that talks the talk and walks the walk. The wedge salads is beyond comprehension how good it is. The bread is transcendent. I got the dry aged steak and my wife got the wagyu. Both were true to definition fine dining. My wife insisted on the truffle fries as a shareable side and by gosh they were the best fries ever had...that being said...wagyu 5oz is $130. You aren't going wrong here. Great meal, great service, worth the time and $$. It is rare to get a good deal and still spend $$$$ these days. This is the spot.

Each dish was delicious, hot, and flavorful. The service was wonderful and I received warm chocolate chip cookies with the check which was a nice treat to take with me. The restaurant is in an unexpected location next to Taco Bell and Hampton Inn but superb quality. The interior is decorated nicely and restrooms are clean.

In my many trips to the AB area, I've driven by the old Mosquito often but it's always, always,…read morealways packed no matter the time of year. New plan for this trip. Step one should be the same for everyone. Get there when they open at 4:45 because damn does this place get busy quick even on weekdays. When I rolled into the parking lot at 4:40, I had probably 15-20 already at the door. Step two, if you get there at open, consider bar seating. Clam Chowder - Scalloped Scallops - Key Lime Pie I'll just keep it at this. Is anything I ordered going to reinvent the culinary wheel? No, and one could argue that the only negative here is that most everything is on the pricey side. But with that said, everything was extremely consistent, everything was brought out perfectly timed, my cup never runnethed (sure, it's a word) empty and the bar staff are all excellent conversationalists. Also one big upside, the ambiance. The bar area is kept dark as it should be in any bar type situation and the music selection was mostly a fantastic mix of classic R&B and Blues. Can't tell you the last time I enjoyed seafood while listening to John Lee Hooker (well, I can and it would be never which is why my mind was sort of blown). Groaney, groan, groan on some of the pricing but the overall situation here is worth the five stars. I get the hype and I get why it's always busy. Also, kudos to the owner who was up front and making sure to thank every single person that walked by/out the door. Very classy.

Settled on the fried pickles instead of buzz-buzz shrimp they were out of. They were good and the sauce was awesome. I had the mixed seafood grill which was excellent.
