Where to start??? First, our interior designer Karen Johnson was amazing. We needed to decorate a…read more4,000 square foot new home and do it remotely. There were five of us making decisions, all also remote from each other. Not an easy assignment but Karen was enthusiastic and encouraging all along the way. Karen guided us with Power Point slides of all our choices for our review. Her assistant Emily is equally wonderful and competent. When we finally got to Mt Pleasant to sign papers and make final fabric/rug choices, Karen and Emily were so well organized that we finished in record time with no drama. The store is beautiful with a HUGE showroom floor and many sales. You can't go wrong with this store of Karen. We will be back to buy more after we move into our new home.

The need to replace a living room chair had become somewhat of a joke in our household. It's been…read morea difficult almost 3 years so 'the chair' kept getting pushed down the list of priorities. That was, until a Black Friday ad showed up on our TV and my hub called out, "Hon, come look at this chair." "Yeah, it could work," I casually replied. I had a plan. First thing, Small Business Saturday, I stopped into J&K Furnishings in the Belle Hall Shopping Center (Long Point Road) as soon as it opened. I was approached immediately by Karen who took me over to the advertised chair. She was knowledgeable and patient, even knowing that there would be no sale. I was there just to check out the chair. Yes, it was comfortable, genuine buttery leather, priced well and was exactly what I wanted. I told Karen that I'd be back the next day with my husband. We returned on Sunday and worked with Ryan who also was patient and low key. He closed the sale. We both appreciated that he did not try to upsell a higher priced chair or other items. We actually asked for a protection plan. Delivery was set and confirmed with an automated phone call. The drivers called as they were on the way. The chair is perfect ... even our our fur son approves! The entire experience was easy. If you're looking to feather your nest, or freshen up tired decor, be sure to check out J&K. I know you'll be satisfied.

Buyer beware. Among other items, I purchased four upholstered chairs ($595 each) 2 years ago for a…read moredining table rarely used. The seats began to sag approximately 5". After flipping them over I saw the straps used underneath were elastic, stretched and sagging. I contacted GDC and they stated that the chairs were from Universal and out of warranty. I asked what the warranty was and the very annoyed employee (Kristen or Christine) said she would find out if that's what I wanted her to do (never heard from again) and that the store would give me their wholesale price on another purchase. She said that would be 30% off retail. After years working in retail I seriously doubt GDC only marks up 30%. And why oh why would I spend more money and not expect the same poor quality? They never offered to have them repaired by an upholsterer. Having no real options, I spent my Sunday with my trusty staple gun repairing all four chairs hoping to get another year or two out of them. Note to customer, when spending $595/chair at GDC realize it only has a one year warranty (found that out on the internet) and the quality is subpar at best. Oh, and before I addressed the sagging issue, one chair's caster spilled ball bearing onto my wood floor leaving scratches where they caught under the wheels. GDC DID send me 4 new casters. The point being the quality might just be rivaled by a big box store with little responsibility falling on GDC. Needless to say I will not be back and will share my experience with others.

Since we are part year residents here, the sofas didn't get much use until late in 2025. The material is an off white nubby fabric. By early march, 2026 we noticed that fabric, mostly blue, from our jeans and throw pillows, was sticking to the couch. It was sticking in a way that much of it was hard to remove from the sofas and the sofas had developed a blueish cast. We called chd and they said that they would speak with century about it. Things moved slowly so we had the sofas professionally cleaned. That helped a lot but we got stopped using the throw pillows and covered the seating with throws when we sat down. Chd eventually told js that we should bring one of the cushions in to send to century for testing. Before doing so we used a cushion enough so that it picked up some blue fabric from clothing and the pillows. About a month after giving the cushion back we heard from chd that century wasn't going to do anything about the problem. Century could see the problem but decided the blue fabric was easy pull off. It isn't. Centruy said the fabric was not defective and our one year warranty had lapses. Chd suggested we get the sofas cleaned or that we purchase replacement cushions, perhaps at a discount. We passed on that offer since there was no guarantee that the issue wouldn't arise again after spending a lot to replace the cushions. We told chd that we were shocked that they and century saw the problem but were unwilling to do anything anything about it. We told chd that we didn't see any option other than making sure that people were aware of what happened to us and that chd and century would do nothing to stand behind their expensive products . We received no response to that email. So here we are As the expression goes, in our experience m when it comes to chd, its buyer beware

Came back a few days later and did more measuring. Just discussed her confusing ideas but nothing was done. She ignored my own suggestions and I tried to work with her. She sat 2.5 hrs sitting behind her laptop and recommended a coffee table. unrelated to project. She continued to show me fabrics + pages of coffee tables until it was stressful for me. As she got up to leave she requested another $250. $50 over the $450. She left. Said nothing, gave me no paperwork or plans. Apartment is as it was. I am a partly disabled senior. She has $500 for nothing. Elder abuse.

I found Kay's…read morebusiness through Thumbtack because I needed someone to help me organize my cluttered office space, living area, and kitchen. She wasn't present, but sent a colleague, Corey, to assist me. The rate for organization services was quoted as $65/hr at the time of booking. He did a flawless job and I was so pleased I hired her business for a second session to help me with the remainder of my home. This is where the trouble began. Kay along with a team of 2 other organizers from her group arrived and did a pretty quick and through job with decluttering and tidying. I was pretty pleased with the job done, however I was slapped with an enormous invoice at the end of day. I learned that I was being charged $65/hr PER PERSON. Which was not discussed prior to the booking. Kay and I had a conversation and she decided that she would give me a "discount" on the bill. I really should have stopped there, but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and hired her to help with home decor services. Unlike other interior designers I worked with in the past, she asked for half of my design budget up front, which should have been a huge red flag for me. Although I provided her with inspiration boards, photos of our rooms, and even virtual concept renderings, I never received any substantial deliverables. Only a few haphazard inspiration boards and a janky slide deck with low resolution screenshots. When I asked for a refund, she said that it was past 30 days and I could no longer get my money back. Also something that was not discussed when I agreed to the services. I'm now convinced that her design business is nothing short of a scam and am in the process of reporting her to the Better Business Bureau in addition to filing a suit in small claims court. I would advise steering clear of this business. Look for her business on Thumbtack (she is Featured Interior Design on that platform) for a couple more honest reviews. I definitely learned the hard way!
