GDC Home on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in West Ashley as one of my favorite places to go for furniture and home items. They have really good quality items that really go well with just about anything that you are trying to accomplish. Sales people could not be bothered to assist. When we asked specific questions regarding a bedroom we were interested in, the sales person made us walk to her and she had to get off her personal email to answer our inquiries about availability. Stopped by here as I was bouncing around furniture stores looking to fill up a living room. The items here are nice, but they don't seem "livable" nice. They seem like the type of items you'd put in a living room to show off, but not to let your grandkids run around in with the dog. Prices were rather high, but I'm sure the quality was as well. Some sales agents were mingling around a desk, but didn't do much more than look our way as we entered. I'm not expecting "Welcome to Moes!" but a howdy or something would've been nice. read more

This place is pimped out to appeal to the housewives drinking the HGTV koolaid. Crazy expensive prices for Ikea quality furniture. Was also ignored when I entered the store. Was probably dressed too much like a peasant to warrant the staff's attention. They had some nice looking stuff though. Just didn't want to spend a mortgage's worth of money on a stool. read more

Came in today with my two girlfriends. We were not dressed as if we were "wealthy" and upon coming we were not even greeted by the four individuals that were standing there. Little did they know my friend was intending on buying an entire bedroom set with check book in hand. Their terrible customer service was very disappointing and we will be bringing our business else where. read more

The women that work in this store are by far the rudest, snootiest, laziest employees I have ever seen. I have owned a home in Kiawah Island for 10 years. I at times frequent this store if I don't have enough time to go to Charleston or order online. I literally seethe that I purchase expensive home merchandise from a store that acts "bothered" to assist me. In the 10 years and 50 plus times I have shopped at this store, never once have they ever said even "hello" or "may I help you" to a customer. I am just disgusted by their lack of professionalism. They have several locations and when I asked if the have additional items at their other locations they are so put off that they actually have to work a little harder to help me. I would not support such rudeness. read more

I love being able to go to a store that has unique pieces, and this store has it. However, the shopping experience could be improved if the staff actually acknowledged your presence. I was greeted by 3-4 people standing up by the front counter...they said, "Hi" half heartedly. That was it. That was my interaction with the sales people. If they would have spoken to me they would have discovered that I was searching for a dining tableand chairs, a couch and rugs. Guess they didn't want to be bothered to find out... read more

I went into the store this afternoon, followed by another woman. We exchanged smiles. This was the only greeting that either of us received. The two young women behind the counter never acknowledged our existence. They were on their phones, talking to each other, then decided to "have a meeting", which apparently involved finding two comfortable chairs to sit in, put their feet up, and complain about how tired they were. I don't expect employees to stand at attention for customers, but a greeting or offer of assistance is basic customer service and simple courtesy. I came in because I was interested in purchasing some Jaliska pieces for my sister. I will purchase them elsewhere. Clare D. read more

Stephanie is especially perceptive to your lifestyle and wants to make sure the pieces you select will provide comfort and value for a long period of time. In stock fabrics, as well as special order fabrics, also make it possible to reupholster and freshen up furniture pieces you already own. There are so many wonderful home interior shops in the charleston area it would be a pity to step foot in GDC. The staff may be knowledgeable but who would know since they are too busy standing at the counter conversing with each other to give potential customers any help. The lack of courtesy is appalling. My husband and I recently went in to the West Ashley location to shop for our new home we are fully furnishing. We were pleasantly surprised at both the wide assortment of products and the friendly, knowledgeable demeanor of the design staff. Our consultant Gil Tisdale was extremely helpful and we ended up finding many great pieces that we purchased. First of all I despise shopping. My wife and I were in GDC on Sam Rittenberg the other week and were greeted by several employees as we entered and walked around looking for a sofa and chair. I have lived in Charleston my entire life and GDC Home has been a "household" name as long as I can remember; it has "always" been around and I hope it always will be. As far as I'm concerned- there really is no other place that compares in the Southeast. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the art of interior design and everyone seems to enjoy working there. I know many people that travel to Charleston just to go shop at GDC. Like I said: there is no comparison or true competition locally or regionally. Whoever does the buying is excellent in keeping up with contemporary and transitional, versatile styles. I heard they are constantly traveling nationally and even worldwide to keep up with current and latest trends. The GDC team has got it going on! I must also mention that it is a multi generational family business that has been traced back to the late 1700's so you could say that it just comes naturally. Either way- I'll always go there first. read more
