    Tacos al pastor
    Lauren J.

The name of this place sounds like a place serving food from the Middle East. We would have never come here if the taqueria we wanted to visit were closed and our taxi driver suggested this. Although we just wanted a small snack before going on a bicycle food tour later in the evening, we ended up eating all the food we over ordered because it was so delicious. The chicken is grilled on the bone, but tender and moist and easy to pull off, put into a tortilla (served from a local grocer), with puréed refríes black beans, white rice, chargrilled sweet onion and some salsa for a delicious taco. The al pastor tacos were pretty decent as well, although I must admit I've had al pastor that are better in flavor. I like to try them though, so it's all good and still worth ordering. Check this place out if you're in town. Employees are nice and helpful, always with a smile! Chicken for 1 (huge breast or leg) $70 mx- great deal Tacos al pastor $25 mx - overpriced but good

This place is one of those fantastic little holes in the wall filled with locals. The food is absolutely delicious, always has great service and it's super cheap. They are known for their pork chop and for good reason but the chicken is also delicious. Ribs are not my favorite - flavor is good but not that much meat and a bit hard to eat. Definitely one of my favorite places on the island for lunch or a meal to go!

I almost don't want to review this place because it is so well done. The food is fresh and tasty. The prices are better than reasonable. The prices are in pesos. We will definitely be returning often. We ordered Salbutes, empanadas and Flautas. I think we paid 7$usd. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We ate here on our first night on Isla Mujeres. We had 8 tacos and a home made lemon drink. We ordered chicken and pork tacos and they were delicious and inexpensive, 20 pesos each!! Our entire meal was 185 pesos. Good, friendly service, easy to find, VERY reasonably priced...a keeper .

    Chicken and cheese toasted torta

We pleasantly found this place by accident after trying to go to another place that was packed. The grilled chicken/ham tortas were nicely toasted and absolutely delicious.

Gods Grilled Chicken. I will be traveling from wherever in the world to get back to this place for the rest of my life.

This little hole in the wall was a good find. Three chicken and two pastor tacos, a chicken quesadilla, and a big bottle of horchata for $10 USD or $200 pesos with tip. I got chicken tacos.... hand pulled chicken and served with lettuce, pico, and avocado, on fresh corn tortilla. When we got there at 7:30 at night we were one of a six people there and before we knew it the place was packed. One bite at we could see why. Nothing fancy..... just simple, well prepared food. They do not take credit cards.

We have been here a couple times while we were on the island for a week. Super affordable food with casual atmosphere. If you go before 4:45pm you can get BBQ chicken or ribs with slaw, beans, and sauces for 95-160 pessos. Pink building on the corner, you can't miss it. Eat there or take out to your hotel. Cash only.

    Delicious Flautas!

We've also eaten at many places in LA, which is known for having some of the best Korean food. We saw this place had pretty solid reviews, especially on Google, and even saw comments from people claiming they were Korean and from LA saying this place rivaled KBBQ spots there. Because of that, we came in with really high expectations. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. The restaurant is located upstairs, and the elevator ride alone almost made us turn around. It was extremely shaky and honestly felt unsafe at times. There were moments we thought it might actually drop. I would definitely recommend taking the stairs instead. We ordered the mixed combo with beef, chicken, and pork, along with soybean soup and steamed egg. The banchan selection was limited and overall the flavors were pretty underwhelming. The biggest issue though was the meat quality. Most of the meats were chewy, including the pork belly, which should have been much more tender because of the fat content. One thing we've noticed in Mexico compared to the US is that the meat quality in general often isn't quite the same, and this place really highlighted that for us. Honestly, Gen BBQ back in California is much better than this spot. I understand some people love this place because they cook over charcoal, but the cooking process took forever. Each meat took a long time to cook, and they had to replace the coals multiple times during the meal. The one thing that really stood out in a positive way was the steamed egg. It was honestly one of the best steamed eggs we've had. Super fluffy, airy, and cooked perfectly. If you're someone who really loves Korean food or Korean BBQ, I personally wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this place. There are much better options out there worth spending your money on.

And yes, this place is both. Since the first time I've been here an fell in love with the consome con carne, I get it every time. I notice that almost everyone in the restaurant has a bowl of this savory, semi-greasy deliciousness of lamb soup. No this is not chipotle with their "barbacoa" that's really just shredded beef, it's the real deal. Whenever we come we get the consomé and a 1/4 kilo of barbacoa. This is accompanied by tortillas, salsa, limon, onions, and cilantro. For a family of three with sodas it comes to about $18 USD and we still had leftovers. They accept cards here but they do ask for ID. This is definitely a hidden gem in terms of tourist, but it's worth seeking out. Plenty of buses stop right in front of it including the R2. So if you want a taste of real Mexico, this is it.

But head across the way, down a few inclines and then you see a few small infinity pools (some with tables to drink/ eat from), bathroom with showers, lockers, open bar and restaurant, lounge chairs with umbrellas, a patio bar and a place that you can use any of equipment for as long as you like for a refundable deposit (tips are appreciated). I am amazed there is no cover fee to enter or use anything, and no minimum you need to spend from what I could tell... The drinks and food were priced reasonably though and the guac we had here was heavenly. I think the best I've ever had! It wasn't too busy the day we were there and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Wifi was down due to being hit by lightening but who needs that with a place like this. We decided to try the snorkel, stand up paddle boards, single kayaks, and it was a lot of fun. The water was very calm, and you get to paddle out onto the most gorgeous blue water away from a ton of crowds and boat traffic. Unlike other places, there is no time limit, there is no roped-off sections that you are required to stay in. You are able to use and adventure as you please and it was wonderful. There wasn't a ton of fish except for around the dock itself, and no real beach at this part of the island, but the dock and equipment was in good shape. The stand up paddle board oars were pretty heavy for me, but no complaints. It was just great to be on the water. If you're in the area, definitely worth coming through!

Despite the high cost as most things and places in Tulum, I decided to dine here after reading a few good reviews online and from a friend's recommendation. When you walk into the place , you feel the tulum Vibe, high energy , trendy. The restaurant has both indoors and outdoors ( we sat close to the back where the cooking station was). We were in an Alcove , loved the semi privacy as it's in the corner but didn't love the lack of air flow . We were within the crowd but not in the middle of it . I absolutely love the way it's decorated , the feel and ambiance of the place . Now the food , like mentioned, one week for overpaying mediocre food , I was impressed and satisfied with the menu and the plates we chose . For a party of 5 ( adults ), we had the perfect amount of food from two appetizers ( grilled calamari - the freshened of it is evident as it melts in the mouth and wasn't chewy and the grilled leeks was complemented well with the labneh , capers , breadcrumbs ). I was in heaven as I along with the group enjoyed the entrants ( skirt steak served with mashed potatoes ) and 6hr slowly cooked ribbed served with delicious potatoes . We also got the side of grilled vegetables ( to counter all the meat ). Couldn't resist not ordering dessert given all the dishes came out amazing . We had the crepe with dulce de leche served with banana ice cream . Great second to the last evening meal . Highly doubt the last meal beats this one . I recommend going for all the reasons stated above but would also encourage sharing dishes ( don't over order to truly appreciate all of them ). There certainly are other items that I would love to try next time ( maybe if I come back In Tulum ) like the grilled beets , grilled fish , etc. Good food and drinks , fun / trendy place perfect for groups , dates ( the bar is awesome as well ).
