I wanted to give the reader some good information so that you can decide for yourself if this is the place for you. I've been coming to Pathways now for about four months. I originally came because of issues with "tennis elbow". It had been plaguing me for a while and had finally decided to do something about it. I booked online which is easy and my preferred way of doing things. I was a bit surprised when I arrived at the appointed time that this is actually Dave's home. He was warm and inviting when he answered the door. We spent about 15 minutes going over what my problem was and talking about his approach. Before I go into that let me jump ahead a bit and say that The type of massage you get here isn't a "feel good" relaxing type of massage. Dave specializes in Orthopedic issues and the work he does is actually painful. Not so painful that it is unbearable but he is working on problem areas so it isn't a walk in the park. I knew that going in so it wasn't a surprise to me. Dave frequently asks about the level of discomfort you are experiencing and he moderates his pressure so as to not overwhelm you. Now back to the review. Dave's method is to relax the central nervous system first then to work towards the area you are having a problem with. He follows the muscles and connective tissue relaxing it along the way to your trouble spots. When you think about it, this makes perfect sense as any issues leading down to where you think the problem is will only make your problems come back quicker. This works so well that he fixed my tennis elbow in one visit though this is probably a bit unusual. I also didn't wait long before seeking help so that probably played a factor too. Now I see Dave more for general wellness than specific issues. As he works through various muscle groups we find places that are all tied up and as he works them loose I feel so much better. I used to see a chiropractor but now that I see Dave, I don't need to. With the muscles in my back being loosened, I get the same benefit and the results last twice as long as a visit to a chiropractor. If you need the intense therapy of a orthopedic massage therapist, you won't go wrong here.

I prefer deep tissue massage, and at some places, that can be hit or miss; either too light or inconsistent. But here, the pressure is always spot on. They always start by asking if I have any specific issues, which is usually the stress I tend to carry in my shoulders, and then tailor the session to address exactly that. Every therapist I've seen has been professional, skilled, and attentive. I always leave feeling significantly better, both physically and mentally. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality massage experience.

After having received two cortisone injections for lower back trouble, I was seemingly on the brink…read moreof full-blown back surgery. Because I'm stubborn and don't want to have a dang surgery, I sought other treatments, including Chiropractic, physical therapy and myofascial release. Physical therapy jacked me up even more, while chiropractic enhanced the myofascial release treatment. In fact, I would go so far as to say the myofascial release single-handedly kept me from back surgery. Myofascial release is the release of the fascia that connects our whole entire bodies. And when fascia is bound up, it inhibits the mechanics of our muscles and skeletal frame. My skeletal frame was out of whack because of all the muscles that were pulling here and there and everywhere--because my fascia was all bound up! Now, my first appointment with Celia McDermott seemed strange. I've had many massages and myofascial release is not like your typical rubbing/pressure techniques. In fact, sometimes I just felt like her movements were too light, or that she'd just press her hand in a spot. But the weird thing is, she'd press lightly with her hand for several minutes and all the muscles in that area would just start melting and easing up. It was incredible. And then, after the session, over the next few days, other muscles would release and even my joints and back would shift and feel better. It was amazing. Now, regarding my back trouble. Because I was in such bad shape, I had to see Celia three times a week for about six weeks. Then I went down to two times a week, then every week, then every other week, and now I see her sporadically--BECAUSE SHE FIXED ME! lol But really, if you're having back trouble. Take the time and the money to see Celia and live pain-free! I really can't say enough about Celia McDermott and myofascial release. The first session or two may seem different to you because it's a different approach to tissue/muscle therapy. But stick with it and give in to the method. It works. I'm an upright, walking example!
