That said, I want to offer some feedback about an experience I had with a dental assistant during my 3:00pm appointment on 4/9/2026. Right away, she asked about getting x-rays since I didn't have any on record. That's completely fair, and I explained that the delay had been due to insurance issues. Her response was, "Oh, so we're just gonna cross our fingers with a cleaning and not catch anything underlying that you might have?" It was an aggressive way to speak to a patient, and her attitude made it feel like she was cornering me into the x-rays rather than having a conversation about them. I told her clearly that I had no issue getting them done and that I wanted to prevent any bigger issues down the road. I did let her know ahead of time that I've historically struggled with a strong gag reflex, and I asked if she could offer some flexibility or support while taking the images. Instead, she shamed me for it, saying, "Well, if little kids can take it, so should you." When we attempted the x-rays and I had trouble, she gave up almost immediately, said "okay, we aren't doing this," and then openly talked about my difficulty with her colleagues within earshot. I was actively asking her to try again or explore other options, and her response was, "No, if you can't do these, there's no helping you. You're just gonna have to hope you don't develop something over time." I've never had a care provider speak to me with that kind of demeanor. It wasn't until Monce, the head receptionist, stepped in that things turned around. She approached me with genuine compassion, asked about my concerns, listened to my history with x-rays, and reassured me she'd do her best to help me get through them. And we did -- we got the images. I've never felt so supported in a moment like that. Even after Monce offered to help, I could still hear the dental assistant complaining that "he can't do it" and then telling Monce the x-ray chair was suddenly busy. Monce advocated for me anyway, and I'm so grateful she did. I really tried to hold my tongue during all of this, but no patient should be spoken to or treated that way. This is the first negative experience I've ever had at this office, and I truly hope it's the last. My three stars are entirely for Monce and Dr. Travis, who delivered the level of care I needed and deserved that day.

I made an appointment because I wanted to learn more about biological dentistry, specifically…read moreveneers and replacing mercury fillings. When I checked in, I confirmed that I was there for a consultation, and the front desk said yes. After waiting about 20 minutes in the lobby, I was brought into a room and told by an assistant that I was there for a teeth cleaning and X-rays. I explained that I had just had a recent cleaning with my regular dentist and already had X-rays. After waiting again, I was then told they could not do an exam without taking new X-rays. They offered to do them for free, but that felt odd to me since this is supposed to be a more health-conscious form of dentistry, and I didn't want unnecessary X-rays. No one told me ahead of time that I should have my existing X-rays transferred over, which is something I could have easily done before the appointment had I known. Overall, it was a very frustrating experience. The staff did not seem clear on the purpose of my appointment, and the communication felt disorganized. The work I was considering is not inexpensive, and as a potential new patient, I would have expected the office to handle a consultation inquiry with more care and professionalism.

Here's what I've found with Dr. Bendi and the entire team at Alora Dental. They're on time. Waiting and uncertainty can throw off an entire day, so this matters more than many people realize. I've even felt comfortable texting the front desk before my appointment to ask if they're running on schedule, and they've always been kind and helpful. The sensory environment is also manageable and predictable. The lighting is bright but not overwhelming, which is to be expected in a dental office. The temperature is usually comfortable, though occasionally a little cool. The office has a neutral smell, and the staff wear little to no overpowering fragrances. Most importantly, I feel known, respected, and genuinely cared for. Dr. Bendi is gentle, thorough, and consistently puts both my overall health and dental health first. I especially appreciate his understanding that many neurodivergent people process information through bottom-up thinking. He takes the time to explain details rather than expecting blind trust, and that makes a tremendous difference. This may only be my second or third public review, but I felt compelled to write it. I hope it helps others find a reliable, honest dentist--especially those of us who need information, predictability, and understanding in order to feel safe and comfortable receiving care.

I had experience with medical practices in the past where I wrongly assumed I was being treated as in-network and in fact, was later charged for being out of network, so I ALWAYS make it a point to call ahead of time to verify my insurance with the practice. With Villa Lane Dental, this is exactly what I did. I called ahead to make sure they took my insurance and they confirmed they did over the phone. Then at the time of the appointment, I went in and gave my insurance information where I again verified that they took my insurance. Then at the time of service, I asked exactly how much it would cost with my insurance, which I promptly paid in person, immediately after the service took place. 1 month later I received a bill for 4X what I paid in person. Over $500. I called telling them there was a mistake and that I was in fact in network, as I had confirmed with them 3x prior. The woman I spoke quickly pointed out I signed a document stating I would pay all costs and that I should have consulted with my insurance. After a 30-minute conversation explaining how I had been blatantly lied to by Villa Lane's Staff multiple times (both in person and over the phone), I was ultimately forced to pay 500+ dollars for the service (just as it outlines in the paper I signed) The cost that I paid in person at the time of the appointment was explained to me as a mere estimate. When I asked how they could be 4x off on the estimate there was silence. If you for some reason have to use this dental practice make sure to read ALL OF THE FINE PRINT. And get written proof that they do in fact take your insurance.

The offices are…read morevery sleek, organized and clean with gaming systems to play on along with complimentary coffee & hot chocolate. While I'd already recommend NVO due to the positive care I received, I'd also recommend it due to the family discount offered to related customers . Front desk staff are incredibly friendly and kind along with the other orthodontist staff that attend to customers during appointments (rather than Dr. Kuniharo himself). Dr. Kuniharo is also very friendly, chats are generally short but he's remembered my family members who've been past customers. I have a two critiques that are overall nitpicky; 1. During consultation it's stated that you can get MULTIPLE colored bands on your braces, including a rainbow. When I came in requesting 4 colors I was told I was only getting it due to it not being busy. I can easily understand this rule, but don't state things so simply during consultation only for it to not be completely true. 2. I noticed an issue on one of my brackets being crooked, this was due to the fact that my teeth had shifted and the bed was fully exposed instead of partially. I asked if the bracket had to be reapplied, I was told no. Dr. Kuniharo then came over to review my teeth and told the orthodontist that the bracket had to be reapplied. Essentially pay attention to the care you're receiving, your concerns may be incorrect but be sure to speak them aloud! 3. I was never told when my last braces appointment would be, this was upsetting as I had planned for my final set to be rainbow colored! It was just a let down as I was quite excited to have rainbow teeth for a month. Within the 18 months of my braces care (the estimated time I was given) these were my only complaints. To have the smoothest experience just follow the instructions you're given, wear your bands or retainers and you'll be good. If you're looking to get any ortho related work done I'd definitely attend a consultation with NVO to get a feel for the place! I'm very happy with the results of my teeth and have grown much more confident, along with improving my overall teeth health as I don't clench as heavily.
