My son has special needs, and finding an activity that truly understands him while still challenging and empowering him hasn't been easy. Karate For All does exactly that. The instructors are incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and compassionate, and they meet each child where they are while helping them grow in confidence, discipline, and self-regulation. Since starting this program, I've seen such positive changes in my son improved focus, better emotional regulation, increased confidence, and a real sense of accomplishment. He feels successful here, and that alone means everything to us as parents. If you're a parent of a child with special needs and looking for a martial arts program that truly understands and supports your child, I cannot recommend Karate For All enough. We are so grateful to have found them.

Karate For All has been absolutely amazing for our family. My son has been in the program for two years after it was recommended by his 1st grade teacher to help build his confidence and social skills, and we've seen such a positive change. Sensei Wayne, along with his team and volunteers, are incredible--patient, encouraging, and truly invested in each child. They teach karate kata, sparring, self-defense, and also emphasize focus and anti-bullying. The one-on-one interactions make a huge difference. My son loves coming to class, and we've noticed a big improvement in his focus at school as well. We're so grateful for this program and highly recommend it!

My kids started their…read morelessons about a year ago and have progressed immensely from the direction of their sensei and the dojo. They start out like everyone else with white belts, and have progressed to their current orange belts. I like that they have their weekly private lessons where they can learn the various forms, techniques, and get very technical in their practice. The more direct teachings from the private lesson help them develop their skills while the dojo also holds daily group classes. These classes occur throughout the week as well as Saturdays, and while I try my best to take them in to as many during the week as possible I'm not always able to bring my kids in. During these group classes they get to exercise and work on some group activities, such as group sparring, or punches and kicks on the pads. The senseis all know my kids by name and are very approachable, as well as when we could not make it to our private lessons due to vacation or illness we have always been able to request for a make up class and they are very accommodating with the rescheduling. If you're interested in putting your child into karate but are unsure if your kid is a good match, they do have trials which they will spend a few minutes with your child and work through a short private lesson to gauge their interest. Also, while my kids are not in tournaments, be aware you will have to invest a bit into their growth with sparring gear, outfit, and maybe the occasional long trip to a tournament.

Amazing Martial Arts Training For You Kids!…read more The class is taught at the Tustin Civic Center (next to the libarary) by July Castro-Steinhorn. She teaches a form of martial arts called Shaolin Kenpo Karate, which is a type of self-defense that basically focuses on speed, power and accuracy. I have 2 young boys, both overflowing with energy, and under the direction of July, I've seen them accomplish things I never thought they'd be capable of! July's way of teaching is through trial and error and patience and understanding. Honestly if every teacher were like July, this world would be a much better place. This is NOT a class that teaches kids how to fight! It is a class that teaches children respect, honesty, patience, focus, how to deal with bullying and self-control... just to name a few. I started my youngest son when he was still in preschool. After about 2 months his teacher there said that she saw a big difference in the way he was focusing and playing with his classmates. That was over a year ago, and now he is in kindergarten and excelling! Of course, he's still a 5 year old and an acts like it, but Professor July has helped his leadership skills rise to the surface and blossom and he is not afraid to shine! My older son, who is less on the athletic side and more of a "loner/Lego-head" type, asked me if he could join after he saw his little brother got boxing gloves through the program. I was very hesitant, because this is the kind of kid who tries a sport for a short time and decides he never wants to go back. Well, it's been over 6 months since he's been in Kid Power and he gets upset if we have to miss it for some reason. It is HONESTLY his favorite part of the week. I can tell he feels empowered and PROUD of himself when he is practicing karate. All in all, it is a great experience for my kids. Seeing that I have one of each (jock and nerd) and they BOTH love it, I don't see how you can go wrong signing your kids up!
