1 year postop. Still healing nicely.

One year post op to the day. Dr Moza did a wonderful job. He is truly professional at what he does. Unfortunately, I did not get the results I was hoping for, however that has nothing to do with him, nor his staff who were all excellent and the most caring group of doctors, nurses and anesthesiologist.

This is a photo of my husband 24 hours after a major surgery performed by a GREAT doctor, Dr. Kapil Moza. My 64 year old husband had not one, but TWO prior failed surgeries that were not performed by him. Dr. Moza performed a L4-5 fusion with screws, rods and EXPANDABLE CAGE. He removed two synovial cysts and decompressed the spinal canal and nerve roots and removed scar and then stabilized with hardware. Before you decide on a doctor for such an invasive surgery, I strongly recommend that you schedule a visit with Dr. Moza. He is by far the best of the best!

My husband was in excruciating pain from his neck down his left arm. Dr Moza figured out what he needed and placed 2 artificial discs (Mobi-C) to his neck and removed a large fragment of a disc that was pressing on his nerve. Big thanks to: Dr Kapil Moza (Neurosurgeon) Dr. Nikhil Pandya (Anesthesiologist) Octavio Calderon (Neuromonitoring) Dr. Shariar Ghodsian (Post Op Recovery MD) Nichole Nishizaki, RN Katie Chetwynd, CST/Director of Operation

Feeling great Dr. Moza you are the man thanks again

If you only knew how many years I feared the idea of having needles being stuck into my skin, but…read moreyet, people swear by this ancient Chinese method of pain relief. What finally pushed me beyond my fear was when my husband was having lower hip/back pain... nothing else worked... he presented to Dr. Gu on a friend's recommendation, and I witnessed a miracle. He came home a new person. He was back to himself. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes... so I knew I had to overcome my fears and give this acupuncture a try !! My issues were/are much more chronic than his were. His were more acute. That being said, it "shouldn't" matter, but I honestly think that it does. I've been battling upper and lower back issues for years, some days worse than others, but in very recent years, most days are bad. After being gently poked with needles (felt like a very slight little "pinch" but nothing bad) in both my cervical and lumbar spine regions, and after laying there 30 minutes in a quiet, reclined position, and after a 3-5 minute massage, I walked out .... no different than when I had walked in. Hmmm. I had the same symptoms as before I had the treatment. My husband said that many don't take to it the first time out, so he convinced me to give it another try. I went back a week later. We did the same thing. Again, I walked out with no apparent relief. My husband again mentioned that it can take upwards of 5 different treatments, but at $150 for the first time, and $90 for each subsequent treatment, well, I didn't want to keep doing that just to find no relief. Maybe the 3rd time would have worked, maybe the 4th, but I wasn't in any mood to find out. Plus, I have since read that there are "some" people out there who just don't respond to any form of acupuncture...... guess what, I think I'm one of them. I really want to award all 5 stars because I, in NO way, attribute this failure to Dr. Gu. I guess the 3 stars award is simply because it didn't help me, so it's not so much for Dr. Gu as it is for acupuncture in general. I think that me and my chronically inflamed back muscles are the problem... NOT HIM. He seems like a very knowledgeable doctor of acupuncture, and I'm still so grateful he helped my husband. Perhaps I will return some day. I know this works...... just not on ME so far.

I walked into SCOI for an appt with my wife and you could tell instantly, the waiting room was way to big and there were way too many people in it. So not only were they running WAY behind but they have prepared for running way behind because (my guess is) they are ALWAYS running way behind. I mean the irony alone!! Here are all these people with bad backs and other issues and you are making them sit in an uncomfortable waiting area for hours? Exaggeration, you say? I went to ask about when we might get seen after it was 33 minutes past our appt time. (Of course, we got there twenty minutes early because we don't operate like SCOI... we are mindful of our time and obligations... so we've been there close to an hour.) We were told that we "were next" but they could not tell me if that meant 5 minutes or 45 minutes but it didn't matter because we were relatively sure it would be the same situation the next time we came to this office and this was not a situation we wanted to be involved with regularly... so we left. (We would have told them we were leaving but they didn't have the decency to keep us informed when they were running 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes late... let them do the guessing this time.) Fast forward almost an hour and we get a phone call while driving home... "Are you in the clinic? We are looking for you." You are looking for us NOW? About an hour-and-a-half past our appt??? Could you have looked for us about 15 minutes after our appt time to say, "Sorry but the dr is running late"? Don't get me wrong... the girls were all nice. It's probably hard to remain even semi-nice in that kind of chaos. About 5 to 7 years ago I thought I noticed a shift in this kind of practice of keeping patients waiting forever. With cell phones, automatic reminders, online scheduling, Yelp reviews... I thought I was seeing that my wait times had become very reasonable. Ya know? Word will get out and people won't stand for it so you better get your shite together... SCOI didn't get the memo. They literally do not care about this review... or your time. I'm giving two stars... because the girls at front were pretty cool and, who knows, the doctors may be great.

Dr. O was very quick to evaluate the urgency of the situation and the level of weakness that I was experiencing in my right leg and foot. Dr. O and his staff have been extremely accommodating and sensitive to my needs and concerns. Dr. O explained this advanced procedure that would have a much faster recovery and healing time compared to my previous back surgery that took me over 4 months to recover. Dr. O perform an endoscopic surgery - discectomy on my lower spine. I was able to go home that same day, where the last surgery in northern CA I was in hospital for 3 days and had a lot of discomfort from the surgery site. This time, it felt nothing like that experience. Friends and family saw me up and moving around within days. Obviously it is still a surgery and I did have to recover and have physical therapy, but this experience with Dr O and his staff really impressed me. They assisted me and my wife especially when I was struggling in pain. I'm in a much better situation now after being treated by Dr O. Having back surgery is a serious matter and I'm not one to jump into surgery unless I feel comfortable with the surgeon and their evaluation, skill and perspective of need for surgery. Thank you Dr O and staff for the high level of care you provided along with support you gave my wife and family pre and post surgery. I am feeling so much relief from pain in my back and leg as I was not able to function at all pre surgery, so it has been a dramatic improvement on how I'm feeling.
