We have used Blueville to winterize our sprinkler system ever since we moved into our home in 2018…read more They come in at the beginning of winter and pump water out and switch off the system, and then again in Spring to turn the system on. This year, we are thoroughly disappointed with the service. They came on April 22 to turn the system on. We were not there when the serviceperson came (usually, they give us a heads up and we leave garage door open). When we checked in the evening, the system had been turned on in the garage (the control panel), but one of the valves outside was still closed. We thought the person who came forgot to turn it one (which would be weird since they are supposed to test to see that all the sprinklers are working). We turned to valve on, only to notice that there was a big leak. We had the number of the person, so we called him the following day. He said that he would have to check his notes, to see what he had wrote down and whether he had noted any issues (mind you, we called the day after he had been to our home!). We gave it a couple of days. We called again, he did not pick the phone. We called the Blueville Nursery office and reported the issue. The person who picked the phone said they did not have a report about our house. And that they do not have a record of us being their customer!!! She asked for time to look into the issue and get back to us. That is the last we heard from them. Needless to say, we are looking for someone to fix the leak and to do our winterization moving forward.

The Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan offers one of the most engaging and visually…read moreimpressive indoor event and cultural spaces in Kansas. As Wichita DJ Professionals, we appreciate venues that combine education, atmosphere, and flexible event potential--and this location delivers all three in a very unique way. The building itself is modern, clean, and well-designed, with large open interior spaces, interactive exhibits, and an immersive theater that immediately sets the tone for a memorable guest experience. It's not just a museum--it's an environment that encourages exploration, conversation, and connection, which translates really well for private events, corporate gatherings, and special functions. From an entertainment standpoint, the layout works surprisingly well for hosted events. The open gathering areas allow for smooth guest flow, cocktail-style networking, and transitions into presentations or celebration portions of the night. Lighting and acoustics are controlled and polished, which helps when bringing in DJ services, sound systems, and Photo Booth setups without feeling overwhelming in the space. The staff and event coordination team are also a major plus. They are organized, professional, and experienced in handling public and private events, which helps everything run smoothly from setup through teardown. That level of coordination makes a big difference when managing entertainment timelines and guest experience. Overall, Flint Hills Discovery Center is a standout venue in Manhattan for anyone looking for a space that blends culture, modern design, and strong event functionality. My girls (ages 24 and 20) have always loved bugs (as have I), but this was our first time in an actual stand-alone insect zoo, and it was AWESOME!! Regular zoo insect houses are okay, but pale in comparison to the K-State insect zoo. We appreciate that the zoo was open over the Christmas holidays so that those of us who take post-Christmas trips (from Dallas) could visit. Bonus: we had the place to ourselves so we had good conversations with the staff entomologist, who explained how they care for and manage their insects. Cool behind the scenes info! Favorite exhibits in no particular order: Leaf-cutter Ants (just given fresh leaves) Tarantulas Scorpions Mantids Bees! Various exoskeletons Other spiders (black widow and wolf spider) Assassin Bugs Walking sticks - some species were 6 in. long!! The roaches in the kitchen exhibit is not for the faint of heart. Avoid the sink if you are squeamish. The albino roach on the counter exhibit was cool, though. Stop by and grab some insect snacks on the way out. Bugs are a great source of high-quality protein and ranching them is very climate friendly. 5 come get your bug fix stars!!
