Post-covid, I've gotten somewhat used to the fact that getting anything done these days is time…read moreconsuming, expensive, and sometimes frustrating. I was delighted to discover that old-fashioned personal service at a reasonable price is still with us! The folks at the Optical Shop were able to breathe new life into my old but much-loved eyeglasses by replacing the arms and little nose pieces. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but I was facing having to mail them and wait weeks to get them back, with no guarantee that they would fit. I was able to walk into the store and a very nice man was able to do the entire job on the spot and he didn't charge me an arm and a leg! My glasses look and fit great now! If you wear glasses, save yourself time and money by visiting the Optical Shop first. You'll be glad you did!

8/26/2025 Update: I was able to use my 2025 vision benefits to go to a reputable…read moreoptometric/optician practice in Gainesville this spring. The young female optometrist performed one of the most thorough eye exams I have ever enjoyed, including both for spectacles and contact lens. She allowed me plenty of time to ask questions. This doctor quickly determined that the progressive lens in the glasses I got from St Johns Eyecare were absolutely not a correct Rx, in that the reading portion of the progressive lens were way, way too weak for me for reading. Such as I kept telling the staff and Dr Lennon at St Johns Eye Care, that they were not working well for me for reading at all. I liked the frames so we used them for an accurate Rx and I retained the faulty Rx lens to prove my complaint about St Johns Eye Care was accurate from the get go: that I was not provided a correct Rx, and on top of it St Johns Eye Care refused to check the glasses and also refused to remedy the problem with the lenses. Not only did they completely waste my 2024 vision benefits, and my time and expense in extra trips there, that resulted in an expensive pair of unusable glasses; they subjected me to a physical confrontation and humiliation in front of several other patients, all toward intimidating me into leaving from what had been a scheduled 're-check' appt. I wasn't going to stand for it. On community chat groups there were quite a few other people in the Palatka FL area who had similar tales of rude behavior and problem Rx from St Johns Eyewear. So Dr Lennon's response to my initial Yelp! review, like his work, is not accurate.
