My hotel highly recommended I come here while I was in town. I am really glad I did. It's such a cool spot for Missoula. The inside has a log cabin kind of vibe. It's great food and steaks without being at all pretentious. Very on brand for Missoula. The crabcake is the 2nd best I've ever had. It was big and thick and full of fresh crab. I highly suggest you eat it with the arugula. It really adds that herby peppery flavor that you want. We got a couple cocktails. There is one with rum and banana. I didn't get pics, but it was so good. I got the huckleberry cocktail, and it was exactly how huckleberry should be. Not super sweet. We got the shrimp scampi, and I felt like it needed some pasta or rice or something. The only starch offered was potato or fries. The soup and Cesar were good. They didn't blow me away, but they were solid. This is why I gave 4 starts and not 5. The best part of the evening was our fantastic sever. He was fun and approachable and really took care of us. I hate to say out loud how many times we've been here but it's been a lot every time has been flawless food, incredible atmosphere and service unbeatable any other place within 100 miles. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. They truly make you feel welcome. I think the food still needs work, but they have only been open a few months. The Strawberry Fields cocktail was delicious. We were looking forward to the chili verde cheese fries. The menu mentions two kinds of cheese, including queso Blanco (which is a fav of mine). Unfortunately, while there was plenty of the Chili Verde, there was a very little cheese on the fries at all. They really weren't cheese fries. When the waitress asked how our appetizers were, we politely mentioned the lack of cheese and her response was "We appreciate your feedback." The side Caesar salad had a very nice flavor. Fist and chips was well prepared with a very light batter. The big disappointment was the halibut special. When the waitress described it, she mentioned that they cook in an way that retains the moisture so it's not a dry piece of fish. Now I love a good halibut dish and you can ruin seafood by overcooking it. So I splurged the $44 to get the dish. The portion was a good size and the sauce was good. But the fish itself was almost bone dry. The top of it was hard to cut in to. I was really sorry I did not choose another menu item. The waitress did not come back till we were ready for our check. I mentioned that the fish was not moist as described and she just said "Sorry about that". Having a 50% success rate with the food is not great, but we may try them again when they've had time to get into a better groove read more

We visited at lunchtime on Sunday and we're pleasantly surprised to see that they serve brunch! Half our party had brunch and the other half at burgers. The brunch was fun -chicken and waffles and the other had regular eggs, sausage and hashbrowns. All nicely cooked and really tasty. Two of us had the same burger, the ballpark burger. Unable to give 3.5 stars but that would be overall rating Traveling from Seattle and wanting famous Montana beef so found this place during search in Missoula. Though it turns out it is a lot further we were hungry so stopped. Parking lot was rather full so worried about getting to eat soon as neglected to make reservations but we were in luck. A two top high top available so was seated within 5 minutes. Our server arrived within 10 minutes. Mason took our order so we sat and enjoyed ambiance. Happy that college football was on several TVs including my Alma Mater UCLA so did not mind wait. Mason brought our drinks and two rolls with butter. Nothing spectacular. Food came, I got ribeye after seeing mixed reviews about prime rib. Hubby got prime rib sandwich with quarter inch ring of fat which he promptly removed. I always order meat medium rare and hoping done correctly, I was only half fortunate. Probably how it was placed on grill, one have was perfect medium rare with enough red but other half was over barely pink. It was odd, but I was hungry and did not complain. Service was ok as although Mason would occasionally walk by to check, he neglected to note I had glass of ice cubes no water. For us 2, with gratuity it was $88. Kamp Fire Steak House Review Last night, (22 November 25) to celebrate my wife's birthday, we went to your restaurant. Being called a "Steak House" we thought it might be more than a "Bar n Grill", with a little more ambience and better service. But a Bar n Grill is what it is and the service you might expect as well. We had made reservation and made mention that it was her birthday. We arrived a few minutes early only to find that our reservation had been given to someone else and we needed to show our receipt that we had in fact made the reservation. After being seated, my wife ordered a glass of Merlot and received something called "Three-Legged Red" which neither of us had ever heard of. I had Hot Tea. We ordered an appetizer and later ordered the main course. She had a Rib-Eye Steak and I had the Fish n Chips. The main entrees were excellent! Cooked to perfection. Her meal started off with a dinner salad, a cold roll with a tasteless spread. Butter/ Margarine, it was hard to tell. My "Chips" were so-so. What I would call shoestring fries and what you might find at a fast-food restaurant (McDonald's would have been better). The "Tartar Sauce" was hard to tell apart from the Ranch Dressing. Too much vinegar in both their Cole Slaw and what they call Tartar Sauce. If I needed that much vinegar, I'm would have asked for a bottle of Malt Vinegar. After our meals were delivered to our table (By staff other than our server) we never saw our server again until she delivered our check. There was no checking back to see how our meals turned out or to refilled any of our drinks... Water, wine or hot tea. My wife and I are both retired and live modestly. To dine out is a treat for us and personally I expect more, especially in the way of service. Spending $100.00+ on a nice meal, in something other than a fast-food restaurant, seems to be commonplace these days. I believe that exceptional "Service" should help to fill in that gap. 60+ years ago, I was taken to a restaurant where the only money the waitstaff made was from tips.... No service and you might be working for free during your shift. In the years of being part of our Country's workforce, I have worked as a waiter and recognized that better service would bring in better tips. All in all, would we go back? The answer is probably yes. And while my wife would probably go with the same steak. I would probably try a burger with Tater Tots. This was my first time at this restaurant since Bucksnort became Kampfire Steakhouse. It's interesting to read the reviews after one has just been there, but my personal experience was very good. I haven't seen the crab cakes appetizer mentioned but I could have stopped with those and a salad. They are so good with a fantastic sauce. I also had a French dip sandwich, which was very good, but the container of au jus was a lot narrower than the sandwich, so dipping was problematic. I told the waiter so I hope that they change their dip bowls. Service and speed were excellent, as were the deserts. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful, affordable meal here tonight, but that is not what impressed me. It was extremely busy and from the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by the hostess Mia. She was friendly and assured us of our reservation. We had to wait approximately 15 minutes, but in that time we watched an amazing team handle a very busy night. To start, this does not make me happy at all to write this but this place has really gone downhill in the short time they have been open. Myself, friends and family have been here numerous times for dinner and oddly they were 100% better when they first opened. They have really gone downhill the last three times we have been here. About a month or so ago I brought my friends here to celebrate a Bday We all ordered steaks Med. They all came out basically burned on the outside and raw in the middle W/O baked potatoes that we ordered because they were out. WTH It took a good 25 min for the server from the bar to come back. At this point we were just ready to go. After telling him about the steak fiasco he was indifferent and it took him another 20+ minutes to bring our boxes. Go forward to about ten days ago or so and I went with my husband a friend and my SIL. Again we were sitting at the high top tables in the bar. The food on this night was so AWFUL I will never eat at the Kampfire again. The service from Eric was also just as bad. One person in the group ordered the chicken fried steak and the gravy was so dam salty it was inedible. Our server was nowhere to be seen so they scraped the gravy off and ate the steak W/O it. Funny thing or not about that is another person told me that they had the same problem with theirs when they were here last, totally over-salted. We surmised that the kitchen staff are either smokers who can't taste anything or the gravy is sitting in a warmer all day and the stock is just condensing and getting saltier and saltier. My husband ordered the prime rib and it looked like a dry leather shoe. How in the hell do you cook prime rib so well done that it looks like beef jerky, much less even put that on a plate and serve it to someone? It did not get any better, my SIL and I ordered the baseball sirloin again and they both came out basically raw, again, when we both ordered them Med. I do not know what the hell is going on here but they CANNOT get anything right in this place anymore and I am sick of it. The servers in the bar these last few times have sucked, you never see them again after they bring your messed up food to you. Honestly after sitting in this place numerous times, not anymore, it seems the kitchen staff are constantly coming out to get mixed drinks while working. If so this might explain the serious problems they are having putting out a decent meal. I am going to say this one more time, we have been here numerous times and know a few of the people involved as they were former employees at Montana Club on North Reserve and are great people. This place though at the moment has a serious problem and at some point people will start getting tired of making excuses for them. I hope they figure out what the hell is going on in the kitchen and with some of their wait staff. Either way it will be a long time before I or any of the ten others that have came with me will be back here again. read more

We have been faithful patrons of the restaurant the owners of the Kampfire ran previously, so when we learned they opened this place just outside of Missoula we drove five hours just to try it and it did not disappoint! We made a reservation (definitely recommend doing this) on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was packed. The food was incredible, the staff was attentive and prompt and the bill was way less than we expected. We had the baseball sirloin, which comes with bread, salad, and two sides. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I highly recommend having the tater tots, they are made in house (more of like a fried potato ball) with the Kampfire sauce, they are SO GOOD!! And the stuffed mushrooms were unbelievable. Drive the extra ten minutes outside of Missoula and give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place used to be the old Buck Snort restaurant in Evaro. A lil pricey but it's great food. This is definitely a great place to put on your list of good eats! We were celebrating my wife's birthday so rather than go to the place we usually celebrate all our events in Lolo, we opted to try someplace new and we definitely were not disappointed! The hostesses seated us immediately and Alice our waitress was right on the spot to get us started. We got our drinks ordered and Alice had them right to us. We ordered dinner my wife had the house salad, a filet medium well, with green beans and I had the Bucksnort Burger & fries (I am kind of a hamburger snob, so I always order one when trying out a new place, you can always determine whether a place is worth coming back to by how they make their burgers!). Let me just say we will be going back to The Kampfire on a regular basis! The filet was cooked perfectly, was fork tender and grilled to perfection! The Bucksnort Burger was absolutely wonderful, big burger, nice ratio of bun to burger, great toppings and cooked to perfection for how really thick the burger was! They definitely impressed me with that burger! We hadn't eaten there since it was the Bucksnort some 20 years ago, but we will be returning real soon! We had the Reese Peanut Butter pie topped off a wonderful dinner. We came away well feed, not overly stuffed and very satisfied with the ambiance, service (Thank you Alice for insuring our meal was excellent and taking care, raising cane, on any faux pas' that might have happened ). would recommend having dinner here any time you are close or going by. We had a large party of 11. With reservations we were seated right away. The waitress was friendly brought our water and took our drink order as quick as she could considering the number of our party and how busy the restaurant was. Our party ordered a variety of different foods from the menu. The food order came after a lengthy wait, the children's order did not come with adults and they waited a long time until it was brought to the attention of the waitress. My chicken fried steak came to the table covered in orange gravy covering a burnt piece of meat. The steak in the tacos was burnt and they were sent back. Only a third of the prime rib could be eaten because of the fat on the meat. A very disappointing meal. Ugh read more
