You ever see those girls at your gym that tries to lift weights, but has absolutely no idea what…read moreshe's doing? Yup, that's me and I have no problem admitting that! If someone isn't there to guide me while lifting weights, well then I'm shit out of luck. Cardio workouts are the only thing I know. A few weeks ago I finally realized it was time to get my act together and learn how to do more than run on a treadmill or dance around a studio. My best friend's little sister has been a part of Noble Crossfit for over a year now and always tried to get me to join. I was mainly discouraged before because of the price tag, but thought if I maybe didn't go out to eat and drink EVERY weekend..then I can use that money to pay for Crossfit. Or I can pretend I'm a baller and do it all? Sounds like something I'd do. Then I compared it to getting a personal trainer, which essentially that's what Noble Crossfit offers. At my gym, they charge $80 PER SESSION for a personal trainer. That trainer better give me the body of Jen Selter in that session if I'm paying $80 an hour. So, yes..a membership at Noble Crossfit is overall a GREAT value. Anyways, Noble Crossfit has been great. Laura, Nathan, and Ma truly care that you're doing the work outs properly and will adjust to your capabilities. Seeing as I have basically no upper body strength or lifting experience, they really take the time out to show me the proper techniques and form. They, along with all the members, are not there to judge you. They are there to help you lead a healthier lifestyle, so you'll never get that judgmental vibe. Yes there will be members there that are far more experienced than you, but honestly..they're focused on their own workouts...not standing there to see how much you can lift. I love that they have the workout of the day, which presents a variety/combination of work outs. Every day that you come in, you're in for a new surprise. And sometimes what's listed on the board will make you want to run back to your car and go home, but then you realize to not get scared because the instructors will guide you through it all. Nothing is impossible. You just gotta work hard and you'll grow and see results from there. And no, Noble Crossfit is not a cult..like many people assume haha

With the people, the workouts, and the coaches. Noble meets you where you are so you don't have to have experience or know form and techniques. Every workout can be scaled. There is no reason not to try it! Over a year later and I can say that CrossFit and Noble have changed my life. People wonder why I'm able to handle stress and work better? CrossFit!

The only one time that I did try out the F45 was last November in Honolulu. This trip I decided to break tradition since there was a F45 very close to my mom's place. I anticipated the guest fee but was pleasantly surprised when Neal informed me that at their studio they provide 1/2 price special so I decided to take two classes! It was all worth it too. The studio is conveniently located with ample public parking, very safe neighborhood, clean and bright. Equipment in great condition, they had towels rolled up at front and available for members/guests. My coach for the two days was Coach Missy and she was so wonderful, welcoming and made me feel so comfortable as a guest. She was great at pushing and providing coaching on posture etc. throughout the workout. Playlist was great as well. Neal made the entire process of working out as a guest so convenient and easy. Coach Missy made the experience at the studio so welcoming and fun. I had a great time and will definitely make it a new thing for me to re-visit and be a guest at F45 Reston Town Center. Highly recommend if you haven't tried F45 - I'm a huge fan and it has been a life changer. Great community to be part of and new friendships as well.

Their closed door hindered my ability to stay consistent with my exercise and demonstrated an unsupportive F45 community. No thanks.

Owner (Tommy) is cheap and rude with a superiority complex: he is condescending to members and…read morespeaks possessively of his staff. Even his staff (the few that have remained) don't like him and say things like "if tommy gives you athletic advice, just smile and nod". Everything to him is about MONEY. His members are dollar signs. He charged for the CrossFit Open (maybe illegally?). Upped everyone's membership price for "upgrades" - aka poorly painted bathroom. He'll even try to charge you even when you quit (several accounts of this- so take your card out of wodify). There are COUNTLESS stories of people he's wronged. I made friends and a community there, but was personally reprimanded by Tommy when I suggested advancing my athleticism and was insulted for getting my L1 weightlifting cert. Overall, there is a lack of culture and coaching at this gym. Gym is closed for any possible reason (snow days, any possible holiday - eg Mother's Day). I respect and appreciate the knowledge Joe - owner of Epic- has. But it doesn't outweigh the temper and egotistical attitude of Tommy. I'd suggest trying CrossFit 286 or CrossFit Reston instead.

To say the least, I came in with trepidation of hurting myself and many doubts on my ability to 'keep up'. What I have learnt is the CrossFit is infintesimally scalable and the fact that all levels of people do the same workout feels rewarding and challenging at the same time. I have met beginners like me, veterans who fist-bump me at the end of class with an encouraging word of 'great workout', and amazing coaches who care. The gym is special - and what makes it special is the people. I have had 'WOD- workout of the day' classes with 9 different coaches over the last 3 months. Each one of them has a beautiful smile, an infectious positive energy, and serious coaching chops. The coaches are amazing at guidance, scaling the workouts to match my abilities, and watch over my technique and perfectly balance the push/pull of challenging me without leaving me dejected. I still begrudgingly (lazily) walk in the the box, but I know that all I have to do is show up - and I am in good hands. I always walk out suffering a bit and looking dead, but by the time I get home I feel proud of my achievement that day. Thanks to the folks at CRF7 for being my guides on the journey of building health, fitness and fulfillment. The learning curve 'seems' steep but with a lot of guidance and consistent attendance I am already seeing positive impacts on my health and mental well-being.
