Edited: Worst experience ever. Being treated as less than human is a demeaning feeling, made worse by watching older Haitian men and women siding with the staff and making excuses for the blatant lack of professionalism. I've known of Papa Karl/Carl since 2012. As a Haitian, I feel a duty to support our businesses, but this establishment's reputation for hostility and absurd wait times is unfortunately well-earned. After avoiding the "plague" of this place for years, I gave them another chance this month. On 1/12/26, the staff actually insulted my aunt for leaving a $2 tip. On 1/17/26, I returned at 8:00 PM and waited over an hour. When I asked for a simple ETA because I had to be in Queens, the employee dismissed me entirely and started serving the person behind me. Worst of all, other customers began co-signing this behavior, telling me they had been waiting too and making excuses for the delay. I had to address a man behind me to remind him that where I spend my money is 100% within my control. When they finally tried to hand me the food after I demanded a refund, the employee was smiling as if she hadn't just dehumanized me. I refused the food and took my money. If you value your time and your dignity, do not eat here. We must stop making excuses for businesses that do not respect their own people. read more

Kal's Bakery - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Great food, but often packed and busy which cause it to be very warm. cash only and no pickup, unfortunately.

Being Haitian, and recently spending the last year in Brooklyn, I have been on the hunt for the best Haitian restaurant. This place is making me proud. The prices are affordable, the location is open til MIDNIGHT?!?! And if you aren't Haitian, im feel sowwi for you behbeee! Bc idk if you'll get anyone to translate for you and truly se fout pwoblem pa'yo‍ The more attitude the better the food. Idk why but it's something bout the way yo sanble, yo pa vle Moun pou amelde'ou that let's me know li tel mon bon I had legume the other day with poul for the first time and it was delish! The sous pwa i finished off like a soup, when the rice finished, li te telmon bon chef's kiss. I'll be back again for my trip to FL this weekend. And this time I'm trying the pate. read more

Glad you guys are FINALLY back open. Not completely sure why the name on the outside says "Carls" but maybe it was a mixup. Anyway they've fully renovated but the inside is even more cramped than usual. I'd give suggestions but I know they won't take 'em Be prepared to have less than enthusiastic customer service (the Caribbean way!) and slow service. But the food is absolutely delicious. Prices have definitely went up since they've reopened read more

the server had a serious issue with colorism/racism. my sister, who is haitian american, went to the restaurant with her colombian boyfriend. she asked for black rice even though it was clearly available. the server told her, "we don't have black rice for you, only white rice." they refused to give her the black rice, and it seemed like it was because her boyfriend looks white. absolutely disgusting. happend 3/08/2026 read more

they gave the most amount of all their great dishes. They're the best, I recommend them.great service.

Very good tasting Haitian food. Most of the hot food is visible via the hot table. All food is take out. You can definitely get your money's worth. Food sizes are small and large. If you don't speak English get help from another customer while you're ordering and there will definitely be other people in the store because there's always a line that's the worst part about being in the store. They upgraded everything so now they have AC so at least you're not waiting in the heat, but the food is well worth the wait. Please know what you want before you get to the counter, you'll get your food, but it won't come with a smile. read more

abundance of food!!! tasty haitian food. Only visited once but everything was available. Mac and cheese ie Macaroni Au gratin. Riz, legumes, sauce poi. was happy with my purchase read more

The food is excellent but be prepared to wait a full hour if you order fritay or any fresh made foods lol read more

I went at a great time of day no long lines waiting..recently renovated .food was plenty and tasty

Kal still one of the best Food always on point!! especially the Fritayyy Omg (if you not willing to wait at least 45 mins then don't get Fritay) Everything good about them it's just the wait for the fritay it upset me every time but I always go back read more

It's such a shame to see businesses that don't know how to treat people. The wait here is extensive. The service is not even suitable for animals and after mistreating you they expect you to spend your money anyway. They don't accept cards and their staff does nothing but stand around. I wouldn't know how the food tasted because I didn't stick around to continue to get abused. On first glance the place doesn't even look open. I really wanted to give ZERO stars read more

If you're not going with a Haitian speaker good luck in getting serviced. Food is worth a drive and nothing is too oily and everything was perfectly seasoned. There's is zero order in this place that not only makes the business suffer but causes mayhem amongst patrons. The establishment itself is a one to no star type of joint but the food is five. Overall give it a try but do give yourself at minimum 1-2hrs to order and receive your order. read more

Very affordable bakery shop, get your soup joumou on Sunday. The patties were actually good, not the best but definitely good to share with others. Love getting my spaghetti in the morning from there. The bakery is not so recognizable from outside, but the food is a jewel. read more

Kal's Bakery - Outside - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Food is amazing 10/10, and highly affordable. However if you don't speak Creole you prolly should come here with someone who does! I've never had an experience where I been in and out in less than 30mins (even just for a patty), and if you getting fritay you should be thankful if you only gotta wait a hour. I don't see the service changing anytime soon but as long as the food stays at the quality it's at I will keep coming back! read more

dry food and even WORSE service, I have never been met with such ambivalence and rudeness towards me and my Family.

One is my fav Haitian spots in Brooklyn. They serve LARGE servings ok. I mean the rice is PACKED in there. And it's cheap too. One medium size of rice can feed at least 4 people. No kidding. I've been here many times over 5 times. Never disappointed Go for it read more

Great food. Horrible service. You'll easily stand in line for an hour, and it almost feels like everyone works at a snail's pace on purpose. There are many other Haitian restaurants nearby, so is a one hour wait in a crowded small store worth it?...I think not. read more

I don't know but all of your opinions but their food hits. The service does take a long, long time but at the end its worth it. The food is Sensational with great flavor and texture. This helps me remember my old country, Haiti. read more

Best Haitian food I've had in NYC! Amazing service. It is so worth it!!!!!!

The rice and beans are really good and they give you a large amount of food for the price unlike other Haitian Restaurants around

I have only had Haitian food one other time so don't have much to compare it to but the food was good; a little oily but flavorful. I didn't care for rice and only wanted try ti a medley of the meats but apparently could not accomodate any variation to what they say you must get. I may return to give it one more chance but am relunctant to go alone since the server had an attitude and seemed like she didn't want to deal with us much, even though we had our Haitian friend put in our order. Although 70% is rice, lol, you get a lot of good food for the price so I would recommend it. read more

Kal's Bakery - Amount of rice that comes with the medium ($10.50) - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Best Haitian food I've had in NYC, just be ready to wait 2 hrs before getting the food you ordered on the phone.

If you want HUGE servings for a cheap price this is ur spot. The food is factory made. When I say that I mean it's fresh , tastes the same each time , and always being pumped out because this place gets crowded. . I love their cake and fish patties. read more

Kal's Bakery - Look at this fritay plate. It was truly delicious. - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The most authentic Haitian food you can find in Brooklyn. It's set-up as a "to-go" place. The food is good, the spices are on point, the amount is great- it's well worth the wait in line. read more

Bed t fritay in brooklyn and they give you a lot I recommend this place if you like good Haitian fritay ! Some of the place you pay 25 $ for Fritay and the food is not even good but Karl fritay is great and 15$ fritay 3 people can't even finished it! Great place read more

The food is delicious, you get a large portion but customer service could be better. The line can be long and slow moving . The ladies behind the counter seems to work at their own pace and they don't seem to care how the line is flowing. Haitians businesses have a reputation of lacking customer service and Kal's Bakery falls right into that notion. They got a three for lack of customer service. Whenever I feel like having some " legume " I put on a brave face and bear with it . read more

The food has always been good, but the customer service has always needed improvement. I think they have come a long way, but I still walk in on eggshells not knowing what to expect on any given day. There are two entrances/exits - one for the bakery and the other for the restaurant. A great move to avoid any confusion with the lines. There should be a ticket system established to prevent customers from skipping and add order to the often chaotic environment. If you're not vocal, you are guaranteed to wait awhile for service. I am not a fan of the patties at all. I have not yet tried their other baked goods, but hope to in the future. I feel compelled to support my own. Kal's has been in the community for years and just needs to work on their staff's people skills. I wonder if non-Haitians frequent this establishment. If I am nervous as a Haitian-American, there is no telling how they might feel. As a result, they miss opportunities to introduce others to the beauty of our culture. Food for Thought! read more

I love their food but its not customer service friendly very rude servicing your food Ive been going to this resturant for 7 years theres always a argument being too cheap with the meat selections giving scraps and bones read more

Unprofessional the employee always scream at customer service . ,very bad service ., and also they're never open on times.,

The food is amaZing unfortunately there isn't a delivery option. Nevertheless, the long wait time is worth it and

This place has the worst customer service. The servers are rude and do not attend to customers and also almost a 2 hour wait for food that be cold. read more

Delicious rice and patties. Large servings for a good price. Unfortunately, these folks have no idea how to run a business. It's a clown show. They often run out of stuff, they seem incapable of basic communication, they are slow and indifferent. They are inconsistent. It has never occurred to them to adopt protocol or efficiencies. Nothing is reliable. With all that you would think they would be flexible but they are rigid and unaccommodating. read more

Food is amazing but their hospitality and wait time is RIDICULOUS!! I called my order in at 5:40 and three hours later food still isn't ready . Sorry but not sorry you will not catch me here again ! The need to learn how to micromanage their time from catering orders and from walk in customers. There is no reason that anyone has to wait outside for 3 HOURS. Might I add the attitude you also get ! Next time I'll just go get FRITURA from uptown because this is RIDICULOUS! Never again ! read more

Straight and forward the food here is great. But one thing which is big to be is the the customer service. It's been many times where the some workers not all argue with customers and among each other. I'm not sure if it's the management or servers themselves but they would 100 get a 5 star if they didn't give negative energy to customers. Other than that mac and cheese is top. read more
