    Poor quality food

Poor food quality. Overpriced and uncooked. You may get sick.

Delicious food and excellent service! It was our first time eating here again since 2018/2019 and it was delicious as ever! I ordered the Bistec Salvadoreno and my husband ordered the New York Steak. Both of us were very happy with our meals! The staff was also very attentive to our needs. Our children even left the restaurant with two little toys to play with that their host/server has given them to entertain them. There is not many places where one can feel comfortable as a family with young children dining without judgeful eyes, and we felt safe and "at home" here. Very much a family-like environment and looking forward to dining here again.

La comida no está tan buena y no esperes el mismo monto de comida como en las fotos. Me contaron cada chip que me dieron y cuando pedí más dijeron que ya me habían dado el monto que tenía pero el cocktail no estaba ni lleno está más bien medio vacío. Food was okay, don't expect the same amount of food as the pictures, they count every chip on the plate. I asked for more and they said that they already gave the amount I was suppoust on the plate. Tbh the plate felt half way empty I will put my money somewhere else.

I tried this spot for takeout during the Covid-19 pandemic. I was super surprised by their portion sizes and delicious deep flavors! My favorite spot in the area is up the street so I never really had a desire to go outside of that. However, Kaliente has a variety of food options so I decided to give them a try. Their pupusas are delicious! Not to mention they've got a delicious crudite and salsa to go with them! For me I've always been picky and need a good filling to the carb ratio. They know how to do it here! I got pork and cheese, cheese, and loroco con queso (my favorite!) I ordered my partner a mixed plate with platanos, frijoles, tamale, and pupusa. Their beans!!!! Such deep flavor and a perfect mixed plate with salty, fatty, rich, and sweet flavors. If you want a bite of everything I highly suggest this plate. Worth it! I'm curious to try other dishes and was happily surprised by the flavors, pricing, and portions from this restaurant. Definitely worth placing an order!

** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I was having a hankering for menudo 'cause it was colder than a witch's tit, but alas, it was a Tuesday. And as any true menudo-phile knows, it's a weekend specialty for most Mexican restaurants. This spot was no exception, so I decided to order their $11.99 Large Sopa de Patas, a hearty, more carnivorous substitute with cow's feet and tripe, carrots, cabbage, zucchini, yucca, and chayote (photo: https://bit.ly/3gI4WGJ). It hit the spot in the right way. I also ordered a couple of their salads for me and Jamie W. The first was the $13.40 Grilled Chicken Salad which I chose over the Mexican version simply because I was trying to avoid the tortilla strips. This was a moot point since the Sopa came with deliciously thick handmade tortillas (photo: https://bit.ly/2JP6qDf). It featured grilled chicken (of course), onions, cucumber, red and green peppers and chopped romaine (photo: https://bit.ly/3mi8Hnj). Nothing fancy but satisfying. The second salad was the $9.99 Roasted Vegetable Salad, a hearty portion which combined grilled zucchini, grilled onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, avocado, Parmesan cheese, and chopped romaine lettuce (photo: https://bit.ly/2W67Ons). All in all, this was another good find for me in El Sobrante without setting foot in that town. Sure, I didn't try any of their tacos or burritos, but I didn't have to. I could eat Mexican without piling on the carbs. FOOD - 4 stars...fresh salads and a sopa to compete with menudo AMBIANCE - n/a...don't know (shrug) SERVICE - 4 stars...servings were generous and well packed TOTAL - 4 stars...guess I can get menudo-like soup during the week RELATED - Exploring this part of Contra Costa County? Pretty good wet burrito. Pupusa are pretty good too. Better than most latin places in the area.

I am so disappointed at the food changes and feeling bad to give a bad review as I love supporting small businesses and love Salvadorean food. There's a lot of room to improve. I've been eating Salvi food since I was child. If you order to go check before you leave. I had an item missing. I called and was able to get a refund. She handled it nice too since she forgot to add it. I took food to go. I added pictures on all. The tamales both chipilin and pork were good. The masa was excellent. The size was small to medium. The pupusas are tiny, they are good but nothing extraordinary. As they are small there's no cheese stretch or a good feel about the filling. The masa is good. The quesadilla pasty was crumbly, it did not feel fresh. It was dry with no flavor compared to ones I've eaten before. The best Salvi quesadillas are moist. The guava, pineapple, and custard empanada pastry were small. The pineapple one did not feel fresh, more on the dry side, crumbly compared to other flavors. The pork empanada was probably the worst. They were tiny with hardly any filling. The empanadas usually have a ground meat or shredded chicken. This one had pieces of pork so it was not flavorful at all. There's table seating indoors and outdoors. The yucca con chicharron was okay too. Usually it comes with a salad like but this one came with 1 beet, 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber with a small bag of curtido. No sauce. Tip: The server gave me a business card and recommended to call for orders to go as the waiting time was 30 minutes. I did not mind waiting. I appreciated her sharing this. Tip: recommend the pork tamal. The pupusas if hungry get at least 3.

I doubt that made much difference to their clientele, but in its place is another family-run business, this time Salvadoran. This one offers more generic plates at student-friendly prices for undiscriminating palates. That's at least my take in the couple of occasions I've tried it after going to the gym. The first time I tried it I couldn't see the menu until I got up to the order counter. Then I made the server wait since the menu was so comprehensive (Photo 5). I went basic and ordered the $16.99 Chicken Platter because the kabob version was five dollars more. It was decent enough though on the bland side with rice, fresh tomato salsa, and a small side salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced cucumber, and radish (Photo 9). The menu mentioned a house white sauce. I didn't see it, but I also didn't miss it either. I came back to try them again. I tried ordering the $14.99 Scrambled Eggs with Beef Chorizo but was told they were out of chorizo. This was looking to be a recurring theme because I was rebuffed the first time when I unsuccessfully ordered the beef gyro. Ironically this time they had the $16.99 Beef Gyro Platter. The rice and salad were identical to my previous platter, the beef was just OK (Photo 10). The person at the front desk was so sweet, she managed to get us a table within a very reasonable wait time and was incredibly helpful with the menu. I asked for her personal recommendations, and she steered me toward the Puchica cocktail, which was crisp and refreshing. Per her suggestion, I also ordered the Pollo Campero wings, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. They were perfectly crispy with a slight sweetness from the panela that balanced beautifully with the hot sauce and escabeche. We also tried: * Ensalada Rusa: The combination of potatoes and beets was delicious. * Pupusa de Loroco: Perfectly cheesy and authentic. * Quesadilla & Horchata de Morro: For dessert, this pairing was the perfect finish. The entire restaurant smells like home, filled with the most amazing aromas. As someone who grew up with these flavors, this meal genuinely took me back to my childhood.
