A staple in the Richmond area. And usual go to spot for pupusas. I ordered 4 pupusas revueltas and the taste did not fail. These pupusas are very tasty and decent sizing in comparison to other places. A downside though Is the price. Nearly $4 each after tax a quick meal turns into $20 with a drink. Is it worth the $4? I can say it is if they're made correctly and are filled with cheese and chicharron. In this occasion, I would recommend this restaurant to others but would have to think again to come back since it is on the pricier side of pupusas. Other than that the taste and sizing is very good and I'd say people should give it a try. read more

Their pupusas are HELLA good... end of story... I'm seeing some reviews rate them lower - stick to the pupusas apparently?? My homeboy really likes their steak burritos if that means anything... Mine were so steaming hot I burned myself - I got 1 revuelta, 1 bean and cheese and another 1 I'm not remembering (my bad), but all of them were really good, the revuelta being my favorite. The salsa didn't do it for me, but the pupusas are so tasty you don't really need the salsa, their curtido is solid as well. Nothing to report on the service - I got mine to go. And they did at this modest but industrious strip mall spot in where else but San Pablo. Been coming here for years and have definitely noticed the changes in quality and taste as time passed -- regardless, this is one of the local gems Richmond/San Pablo. It's conveniently nestled along 23rd Street, a radiant hub of culture, especially for the Latinx community. As an Asian person growing up in the area, I felt like a good amount of cultural food exchange and learning came from 23rd, including at restaurants such as El Sitio. The quality of food here was superior when I was in high school about 8-10 years ago, but I still come along here or La Bamba for a satisfying pupusa fix, even now in my mid 20s. I like simplicity in my pupusas, especially when I order las pupusas de queso y chicharron. They served hot with flavor and are abundant and affordable. I personally enjoy eating in the restaurant during the late mornings right before lunch, just because all the times I've been there around this time has been busy yet calm (as in, a very comfortable hustle and bustle but not overwhelming). Staff work quite quick here, and there's a good selection of drinks to choose from to add to a meal (Jarritos, horchata, etc.) I'd definitely recommend El Sitio to folks visiting the area! At one point I loved this place. The time was 2004 and I was new to the area, but not so new to pupusas. I thought that they were OK and appreciated that they had rice ones, unlike Taqueria La Bamba. We'd eat in the shop or eat at home, a few blocks away. But at some point, I just realized that I didn't want to go there anymore. I don't know why. I thought I hated pupusas until I had some that were better in the area. I went to El Sitio for lunch on a rainy Friday after getting some plants at nearby Annie's. The small strip mall it's in has a very small, tight parking lot, so not a good place for a large SUV. There is street parking. This is something of a rough neighborhood, but I didn't feel unsafe. The place was pleasantly busy, with workmen, a few moms with kids and some random folks like me and my friend. I noticed a table of men with large bowls of soup that looked great for a cold day. There isn't a good picture of the interior, it's bigger than the one pic shows - there are at least 10 tables - it look like they make have expanded into the next store, as almost a third of the space is tables. There is a wonderful selection of food from burritos to tacos to soup to papusas. I tried one cheese/queso papusa, one chicarrone con queso/pork with cheese. I love these papusas. They are freshly made with a healthy amount of real cheese. The pork was very tasty and there was enough so that you could taste all of the ingredients - too often with papusas there is so little pork you can hardly taste it or they use bland cheese that dominates everything else. These are heavenly and come with the traditional cabbage salad with tomato sauce. I wish I had ordered 10 to take home. I also tried a carnitas and an al pastor taco. Both were generously filled with meat and fresh toppings. I liked the carnitas fine, it had a usual carnitas taste and was tender. The al pastor was truly fantastic. I love how they make their al pastor and will definitely try a burrito full of that in the future. It was succulent and moist with a great grilled flavor. My friend had a papusa and a burrito and was very pleased with both of them. Thanks to another reviewer I tried the horchata. I am usually not a horchata fan, as so many of them seem to come from a mix and either taste watery or like cinnamon water. This horchata had a solid rice taste and a good balance of flavors that made it one of the best I have had. I usually throw most of one away, but I finished the whole drink happily. This is one of those places I would likely never go into without the good reviews. We felt welcomed and well taken care of. For authentic, fresh off the grill good food, especially the papusas, this is a very solid bet. I'll be back! read more

I regularly crave super grilled chicken burritos thus I would grab a burrito from Gordo Taqueria on Telegraph Ave on my way home from work about once a week that was until about 6 weeks ago when they suddenly and unexpectedly closed. I knew I would have to find an alternative restaurant to satisfy my cravings. As usual I turned to Yelp on my way home from work one day and I gave this place a try. The best Salvadoran food I've ever had! This little restaurant in a little strip mall in Richmond has the best papusas I have ever tasted. The pricing is very fair and it's definitely worth any drive or wait. If you find yourself in the area, come check it out! I recommend getting a variety of menu items to make the perfect combo meal. We got a couple carne asada papusas and then a quesadilla and a sope. They were all A+ in my book and almost outer worldly. Freshly made just for you, you can't go wrong coming to El Sitio!! Be careful the parking lot is pretty small so it may become packed during busier times but the area is safe and has street parking nearby! EAT HERE ASAP. You won't regret it. The interior is simply but brightly decorated in light yellow and blue; colorful mirrored wall hangings. Bare tables, and plasticware, but china plates. The TV is, unsurprisingly, tuned to Telemundo. Oh, yes, and there's a claw machine--so there, Mr. Fancy-Schmancy French Laundry! Food must be ordered at a counter, but is then delivered to the table, after a few minutes' preparation time. A basket of tortilla chips, almost certainly commercial, and a fairly spicy red salsa are handed out at the time of ordering. We went with: -- Steak burritos, large (we took half home) and good. -- Pupusas; we chose pork and cheese from among several options. While visiting san pablo i came across this restaurant located in a small shopping corner off of market and 23rd street. I ordered the carne asada burrito and papusas. I ordered the pork and cheese papusas and it came right off the grill. They were very tasty and the cabbage they give was awesome too! The burrito was filled with meat cheese rice and beans with onions and tomatoes. There custumer service was great and horchata is good too. I was alerted to this restaurant by Ed U's review. He had medudo and tongue tacos. He was excited to find menudo on a Friday. I was excited by the tongue tacos. Alan and I had lunch here today. The restaurant is in the little strip mall on the northwest corner of 23rd and Market. It's made up of two storefronts. It was chilly and then they propped the front door open. You order at the counter, gather your utensils and seat yourself. I ordered two tacos and jamaica to drink. Alan ordered an el pastor quesadilla since they didn't have shrimp, which is his usual go-to. He had water to drink. They brought us a basket of chips and red salsa. Both were good. Our food came a little while later. The tacos were full of tongue and the other accoutrements, including a wedge of lime to squeeze over them and a hunk of radish. They were tasty. Alan was less impressed w/ his quesadilla, finding the al pastor salty. He ate part and left the last piece. I doubt we'll return, although the tacos were good, because I can get them closer to home from the truck on San Pablo Avenue by McBear's Social Club. read more
