In addition to a HUGE selection, the Kakos family regularly curates barrels of tequila , bourbon, and whiskeys of exceptional quality. So, the selection is there, the quality is there and most importantly, this is a business that values their clients and treats them like family, maybe better...depending on your family, lol. Like this place needs another five-star review. But what can I say? It's warranted. Joe went out of his way to help me find some orange wines. And I mean really took the extra effort. Emailed me several times and everything. When I showed up to get one of the wines he found for me, he wasn't there - but Giovanni was, and was quick to point me in the right direction. Beyond helpful, friendly, and prices similar to where I usually get my wine in Dearborn (because it's closer and I love it too! ;)) Definitely use this place for all your boozy needs. If they don't have it, ask, they'll get it for you. So glad I stumbled on this place on my way back from my reflexology appointment in Birmingham. Dream come true! P.S. People - get into orange wines because they are AWESOME and hopefully that will get some of the Michigan distributers to carry more options. Kako's Market is the "Cheers" of liquor stores; go in once, introduce yourself and chances are the boys will remember you. I was directed to Kako's by a friend and co-worker. The first time I went in, I introduced myself to Giovanni and Joe and asked them if they carried a specific Syrah I was looking for (Sixth Sense Syrah). They said they didn't- but to write down the name and they will order it for me. The next time I went in there (less than a month later)- their shelves were already stocked with my favorite vino. Even if I am not in the neighborhood I will always go here to get anything. Just last week I had some friends from out-of-town visiting and they were shocked at the selection of hard-to-find beers (Arbor Brewing Company and Delirium, etc) and wines. I didn't know it was possible to love a liquor store. I mean I don't even drink THAT much and I just love it here so much. I was told to come here by one of my favorite bartenders in Detroit. He makes the best craft cocktails and if he raves about the place I knew it was where I wanted to shop. The owners are so passionate about their product and their store. I was stocking up our bar with a wide range of things and I spent a while just chatting up what I needed to buy. Everyone is SO friendly and SO knowledgeable. I actually had FUN shopping for booze. They have everything. Literally everything. Rare things you've never heard of - they got it. Simple stuff - yeah of course they got it too. I really enjoy shopping at Kakos Market. These guys know their liquor and are passionate about it. Being nice also helps. A lot! They have introduced me to some great lesser known bottles. Zaya Rum is one. I bought a bottle of their limited release Knappogue Castle 12 year old Irish Whisky today because I trust them. They suggested a bourbon as a gift that is kind of off the beaten path. I like that. They also seem to know a lot of their customers by name which I find endearing. Keep it up guys! read more

If you're looking for a good liquor, go here. Hands down. First of all they are stuffed to the gills - liquor all the way to the ceiling. Second of all - the brothers that own this place are crazy knowledgeable! They can tell you about pretty much every liquor in their store and are more knowledgeable than some wineries/vineyards I've been to! - and about *way* more types of liquor! Third - and this is the best part - I go in whenever I get a moment to check out their specials. They frequently have a special bottle of something where they basically buy a barrel of different types of liquor and when that barrel is ready and bottled, they are kind enough to share it with us! I've gotten some amazing bourbons and tequilas there. And lastly - if you are looking for some off-the-wall hard-to-find weird liquor - they will know exactly what you are talking about and will likely have it or be willing to order it for you. My boyfriend received a bottle of very unique tequila as a groomsman gift and he loved it. Everytime we were in a liquor store or a store with a decent selection, we'd try to see if they had it. We didn't even know what it was called but on a whim I stopped in at Kakos and he knew *exactly* what I was referring to and had one in stock. The owners know their stuff (Joe & Giovanni) and will always stop to educate you one wine or vodka if you have the time. A family owned business (Mrs. Kakos still works days), you can see why they have been in business for so long. They recently did an order for my company picnic and everything was seamless. I have read a bunch of reviews here on yelp, so I really wanted to like them. I went in and asked how I could get a bottle of pappy van winkle when they got it. I understand it is a very hard item to get and understood I couldn't just walk in and get a bottle. I was told it wasn't a good bourbon and when they get it they would only give it to their "high end" customers. I guess I wasn't dressed nice enough for them, or they didn't think I looked like I make enough money. It's generally a good rule to not insult your customers. History, flavor profile, scotch, gin, rye, tequila, you name it, they know about it. Everyone there is dedicated to the customer and customer service. This place is one of my go-to places to get wine! I believe it to be the owner and I'm not sure of his name but he knows a vast amount about wine and is very informative when helping you choose wine. He's always so excited to help and to teach people about wine and to really help you find something that you're going to enjoy for a price that is within your budget. I've been there a few times and ended up buying his recommendations while only spending $20- $30 for a few bottles of wine. They also have a huge selection of liquor with mixers and fixings to go with them as well. FIRST OF ALL- its NOT in Detroit & there are MANY wonderful stores in Detroit!!! I've been in Kakos several times over the years because its close to my place of business. I continually try to give them chances to show ME the great customer service everyone on the site is raving about & I have yet to receive it. I must admit that Joe is a great person & very knowledgeable & that is appreciated. I have never been treated nicely, however, by Betsy- the mother. She's been rude, dry & short with me EACH & EVERY time I've shopped there. I walk in with a smile & leave with a frown!!! That being said, today was my LAST time going there.
