Half of their perishable goods are expired - just take a walk through their dairy or meat section. Of course their excuse is always "well we have a new dairy/meat guy". Which is a lie because it's always the same guy every time I've been there. At any given time, half of their milk and sausages, are expired. Their employees don't know anything. If you want a nicer bottle of liquor, they somehow never have the key for the cabinet. This has to be the worst Kroger in the entire chain. read more

Kiara is unprofessional and rude! I waited 20 minutes for a simple money transaction. Her cashier took twenty minutes looking over a math receipt. As I am about to check out, the only line with a clerk is closing. ( No complaint there, I understand every person needs their break.) However, my only option was to use self check out and I had a hefty order. Thankfully, a gentleman named Brian came to my aid and helped me. I don't even know what to say. I pulled in for a few last second items that I needed for the morning at 9:49 PM. There was a lady blocking the door so I could not get in. The store closes at 10 PM. I let her know the store hours say 10 PM. She was unbelievably rude and said I had five minutes to get out of the store. I will be contacting the manager not that it'll make a difference. I can see why now Nino's is so packed and Kroger is a disaster. read more

This Kroger location near downtown Birmingham is not my regular Kroger, but I have stopped in occasionally when returning home from that direction. It carries the usual selections and brands found in other Kroger locations. Access is a bit different because the store fronts on Maple and on Woodward with limited parking available there. But it does have a decent-sized private lot in the back of the store not visible from the front. Of course, once you know this, it's not a big deal. Staff have generally been helpful whenever I did stop here and asked for help. I guess the biggest drawback for me is that it is in a very congested area and at certain times of the day it can be a little tricky to get to the parking in the back of the store and find a parking spot. read more

Just popped in here to get lunch while in on business and it's a pretty nice grocery store. Kind of an odd/different layout because everything is diagonal versus horizontal, but easy to navigate and there is a Starbucks inside. I went to the hot bar and it was underwhelming with hours old dried out chicken, which is to be expected I suppose at 3 in the afternoon. Looks like it would be good if you're around Birmingham because there are neighborhoods around, as well as the downtown just a block or two away. read more

I don't know if it's a location, but I don't love parking here, in the front or back. I don't feel the layout of the store is ideal. I get that they want to have a large grocery store option for Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills residence. But if I lived in Birmingham, I would definitely be driving to the Kroger in Royal Oak or anywhere else. They have the same products as any other Kroger, it's just the location that is an ideal here and makes we feel bothered if I ever have to come to this location. I do end up here, when I visit my friends in Birmingham, for any parties or dinners together. That is of course if I forget to buy ingredients before hand and on my way to Birmingham. I will always try to go to another Kroger location before coming to this one. read more

Good store, just tired of the bad rap it gets because of all the negativity... A shame it foists the self-checkouts on everybody, but it's simple because no one wants to work... The shelves, coolers and freezers are more often than not empty, as is to go as far as the meat and seafood counter displays becoming completely bare, and then understaffed in other areas to boot... Reason: No one wants to friggin' work.. So the store and whatever little staff it employs doesn't deserve its public taking every bit of anger and frustration upon it... Even if it is just a piddly grocery store it's a job, and what little it can do so you don't starve just be nice... Be patient, honest on ringing up your items or at least ask for help... The workers are mowing you down & management is harsh w/ employees and it trickles down to long faces and no help at all ! I'm not going to go through the labors of reviewing both the Birmingham and Bloomfield locations, since I'm rarely out in Michigan anymore but Kroger's (yes, we say all of our grocery stores with a possessive out here, it's a thing we do) is easily a go-to supermarket for anything and everything. Also, booze is CHEAP AS HELL HERE. Do not bother going to Papa Joe's for alcohol. Though, if you want a fancier bottle of wine, you may want to do so. I am amazed because I see bottles I can get in Queens and Brooklyn for like $7-8 (cheap) and find them here for like $4-5. Holy schmoly. Where am I? The Midwest. Also, keep note of the craft beer shelf. There's a build your own pack section that made me incredibly giddy because Bell's doesn't ship to New York still. Produce seemed fresh. Huge variety. I mean, huge. I get lost in Kroger's to the point where I had to call my sister's cellphone to find her multiple times over. The cashiers/baggers seemed fine as well. Saw some Yelp complaints. So I don't get that. Also, if you feel like being an asshole for the day, there is a self check out area. read more

My wife called this store just to ask if they carry a certain baby formula. We were greeted with a sigh then placed on hold 3 separate times and waited for 15 minutes. Once someone picked up, we were told that there wasn't anyone that could check on that. Horribly rude customer service person. I won't be going to this Kroger again. The staff at this Kroger on Maple Rd. is uncommunicative, slow and sloppy. They do not answer questions, and instead just keep walking without even looking at you. The checkout lady never greeted me. They take up the whole aisle when stocking the shelf and make you walk around them. The staff walks the wrong way down aisles clearly marked as one-way. The staff yells at each other across the store. I don't know what the guys are doing at the Starbucks counter but his pants were falling so far down his body I saw his crack. Disgusting. The last resort for a grocery store in town or any town. The produce is poor, the meat and seafood is not fresh, the sushi is often mealy and they are usually out of stock on one or more items I came in for. The employees are still not nice or helpful ( or helpful with a grudge ). I seldom leave this place without hearing someone complaining about their job at Krogers. read more

After a nightmarish experience at the Kroger on Coolidge and Woodward, I had higher hopes for the Birmingham branch of the chain just a few miles up the street. Like the new Hollywood crop of It Girls, Birmingham's Kroger looks plenty nicer from the exterior. But is the beauty and quality more than skin deep, or am I being distracted by the brick exterior and fancy dress? This Kroger is no Zooey Deschanel but something more of an Avril Lavigne dressed up in a designer label. She may look pretty from a distance, but all those strange angles and quirks just aren't working for me and I think they're hiding something strange. And not in the good way. First of all, getting into the parking lot is a pain. Despite my GPS' suggestion, making a right turn onto Maple from Woodward immediately forbids me from entering the parking lot. After meandering like a newbie photog around Kodak Theatre, I finally found my way in where I was supposed to be via the rear entrance, which I think is in fact the main entrance. A handsome autumn display greeted me, but no trash can to dispose of gum wrappers, and the carts were stowed away oddly. I ended up meandering my way through the floral department towards the meat case, and the assortment there is rather limited. It's small, and they do not carry ground turkey or a fair number of basic staples I was on the lookout for. The layout of the store in general feels very chopped up, with some aisles going in one direction and then the back half of the store past the dairy section in a completely different arrangement, like they were forgotten and tacked on as an afterthought. Trying to locate items can be a tad tricky because of this and it's a slog to run back and get shredded cheese if you remember at the last minute you forgot something, while the frozen food section might as well be in Uruguay for all it's off by itself near the cashiers' area. I don't understand why the manager had all the "Managers' Specials" (marked down items) after the checkouts, either, since it essentially prevented me from perusing the items on the long tables because I already checked out using the U-scans. Prices are on par or higher than other Krogers and at least it looks a lot cleaner. Sometimes it is hard to tell what is on sale and what isn't, if you're used to tags that hang down rather than lie directly over the shelf label. Because I went during midday it wasn't too rushed but this is not a store I want to have to hurry through. Items are scattered in places, sometimes lacking (no sugar cubes? Really? And no tart shells when your other stores have them). For some basics it is good but the hassle of getting in and out means I would rather drive the two miles to Troy for a much better laid out store. read more

Who reviews a Kroger?! It may be weird, but this Kroger deserves it. This is by far the wonkiest grocery store lay out ever. I used to work at a restaurant nearby and I often was in buying various things that we may have been short of for the day. I hated going there. The parking sucks, both in the front AND the back. There is no convenient way to get into either of the parking lots. And yes there is a front and a back entrance. The front facing Maple contains only U -Scans though, but also represents one of the stars for this review by also housing a Starbucks. The back has U-Scans and checkout. Overall this Kroger is just really oddly and somewhat inconveniently laid out. read more

Good Kroger. They've got a good selection of healthy foods. Big deli, bakery area and there's a Starbucks on the Maple Street side--super friendly employees. The store has two entrances, two sets of registers so it can be a challenge to orient yourself the first busty or two. read more

This is probably one of the weirdest Krogers I've ever been to. I've been here a couple times now and I still can't figure out the best way to get into the parking lot. The back parking lot has a giant slope towards the door so you're either going to be trying to stop your cart from rolling into the store without you or getting one heck of a workout when you're pushing your groceries back to your car. The selection's pretty average for a Kroger. All the produce looked nice and fresh! There's a sushi bar, a ton of fancy cheeses, and a pretty impressive alcohol section. The aisle layouts leave something to be desired though - once you start getting towards the dairy the frozen food aisles run perpendicular to the rest of them and it feels disjointed. The plus is that it's down the street from my office, but otherwise I don't think I'd make a habit of shopping here. read more

This Kroger location is a little confusing because the "front" of the store is actually the parking lot area that you don't see from the street, and the "back" is the area with the pharmacy and the coffee place which you see from Maple Rd. Products are easy to find. Store is well organized. Staff is helpful. They let you use duplicates of the same coupon without making a fuss. You'll get out quickly if you take advantage of the u-scan instead of the registers. Also there's a redbox inside for movie rentals.... :) read more

By far the best Kroger I have seen yet. Very clean, and the ladies that were stocking were extremely friendly. All around real helpful. The produce was orderly and fresh, which is HUGE as far as I am concerned. I'll stop by again when I am in the area. read more

Visited Birmingham Kroger this morning. Stopped by the "customer service" desk to ask where an item might be? I said, "excuse me, could you please tell me where", and I was rudely interrupted, with a response yelling "I don't know where nothin' is". I told her she was rude and walked away. She made faces at me (noted by another employee) as I walked away. Ironic, that this person works in "customer service". She should be FIRED! No excuse for that behavior. I reported this to a manager as I was checking out. She said she would speak with the rude employee. She asked if there was anything she could do. I suggested that the store should apologize to me. She then said she was sorry. Interesting that people need to be reminded to apologize. At least the manager didn't yell at me. read more

Employees peek into bathroom stalls through holes in ceiling. They get caught but keep hiring new offenders. Employees get drunk and sing in parking lot. Employees have mental breakdowns in front of customers when asked to clean up human feces smeared on bathroom walls. Employees constantly act like THEY are inconvenienced by CUSTOMER requests! Deli employees are from Jerry Springer, big chips on their shoulders, dragging feet, complaining about how far they have to walk to come help you, muttering things, rolling eyes, etc. Incompetent cashiers can't add, slow, stupid, all recent hires. Managers promise changes, don't deliver. Bus line outside is convenient. read more

This is probably the best Kroger I have been to. The bakery there is amazing, I have gotten a few cakes from there recently and not only have they tasted great but they are so reasonably priced. I love all their produce, and they have a section of precut, pre-seasoned veggies that is amazing! I wish it was closer to home, I would do all my grocery shopping there. read more

The pharmacist is the worst. I stopped at the pharmacy today after visiting urgent care, where I was diagnosed with the flu. I was percribed Tamaflu - a time sensitive medication. I arrived at the pharmacy at 7:45PM where I was ignored by both individuals until 7:58PM. I was then rudely told by the pharmacist that she was closing in a minute and refused to fill my rx. Being from out of town without a car, I then had to walk 10 minutes to Walgreen's. This was shocking behavior for someone who is supposed to assist the ill. I spoke to the store manager as well, who didn't take any action or apologize. read more

The genius from corporate that can up with this idea of redeeming bottle returns, paying every household bill you could possibly own, and gambling needs to be fired. Stood in line for 20 mins Whole a customer paid two bills, clearly the system is not optimally setup to process this function. I felt like I went back in time to witness dialup in real life. I have been shopping at this Kroger for years. Every time I step foot in this place I asked myself why did I come back?? It's only a couple minutes from my house so I continue to go for the convenience factor. Shame on me. The deli department staff is the absolute worst. STAY AWAY unless you want your blood pressure to go through the roof. They stand around looking for any possible excuse to help you. They have zero customer service skills. The grocery store itself is always out of products I need and the shelves don't get restocked right away. They will have cases of water stacked by the exit door after you check out with NONE on the shelves in the aisle of the grocery store. This store went way downhill after the re-model. The Coolidge store is A much better choice. read more

Firstly I have to say that I have loved this Kroger store since the day it first opened. For some reason they decided to dump Millions into this store seemingly to keep up with other more flashy grocers nearby. WASTE of money in my opinion. Down home 'folksy' solidly middle class Kroger was just fine the way it was. It just needed a shot of Botox not a 5 million dollar face lift !?! It is very pretty but not better. My first visit after the 'remodel' went badly for many reasons. Firstly, the familiar faces I had come to know were few. And they seemed sad. I believe the managment failed in their responsability to train properly these obviously overwhelmed staff members. I was looking for my Christmas dinner items, not a large list. A quick visit I thought. I asked for a bag of stuffing. A front item during the holidays 'Usually'. After asking 2 people I got a young very busy manager who did not know where the stuffing was...finally she made a call and got directions to a middle of the store shelf and hiding near the bottom, not face forward was a selection of Stoufers. That was the first 30 minutes gone. Releived that I might escape, I got to the new and improved self checkout at the Maple side exit. What a joke. They look big enough for Barbies dream house.. I could hardly fit the basket much less the limited items I had. They removed the 4 bag carousels. Thats not the best part! Trying to bag was hell. No room. some fool put so many plastic bags on the hanger there was no room for the groceries !! My groceries were falling off, the scanner kept calling the clerk, who never came to help anyone. so I had to stack them on the floor just so I could finish. The poor woman next to me was going through the same hell and lost control of a jar of sweet pickles whitch crashed to the floor and splashed onto her very smart looking pumps. NO ONE CAME TO HER AID ! So I did. With my groceries on the floor I did what I could. The clerk finally did something ..... he made a call for a clean up. How BUTCH. He could not be bothered to help this lovely lady. Shame on you Kroger, Not a team of managers in site. 2 days in a row. Some Grand opening.
