This is the best, most well stocked and well organized liquor store that I've been to in this area. Most are old, dirty and dingy but not ML. Their people know their stuff and are always helpful. And they will happily find and order anything they don't have in stock for you. There is one employee who is a big, tall man who sounds loud and a little gruff when he talks. I've read some reviews and he could be taken the wrong way by some folks but it's just the way he talks. I've gotten to know him a bit and he's actually a great guy who has helped me many times finding obscure wines. This is my go to store and is really SO much better than anything else I've seen here in SE Michigan especially regarding wine inventory and knowledge. As you can see, I've been going to this store for many years. Many years ago the service was consistently great - friendly and attentive. However, for the last few years my husband and I ALWAYS leave the store wondering why we even still go here. We went this weekend to get a few things, and basically had the same experience. The employee was wearing a mask, so they get a point for that. However, the clerk was unfriendly, unresponsive to our general greetings ("hi, how are you?") and was back to texting on his cell phone before we could even grab the bag of our purchased items and walk way. Really impressive selection of beer, wine, spirits, mixers, and snacks! Coming from California, I was excited to see some of our favorites from both breweries from Mendocino and wineries in Paso Robles, not to mention San Diego, Napa, and Sonoma. I've also never seen such a wide variety of Fever-Tree mixers (or a cyryptocurrency ATM)! In addition to the thoughtfully-curated products, the staff was knowledgeable and proactive. So disappointed with this place. I used to come here all the time and enjoyed their selections. But when I dropped in today I immediately saw that nobody in the store was wearing masks. I have a current infatuation with three wines coming from Williamette Valley. I made a visit to ML on recommendation and am mad only that it took me so long to come here! Their selection of wine, liquor and beer is top notch. What's more: this is not a dirty or cramped store, it is clean and perfectly organized and a pleasure to peruse in. The individual working when I first stopped in was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I left with many varieties of the end I was seeking as well as some new ones too try as well. And some of the "staff" think they own the place and have smart mouths - asking like "why do you always buy the cheap vodka", "I will give you ten cents off if you buy the bottle with the broken cap. I was drawn in by it's pretty exterior. And I was not dissapointed when I finally entered. It did take me a year to finally enter, but now I am a regular! One of the best selections of liquor around. And if they do not have it, they will order it for you. They have rare boozey treats like Pimms to cheap ghettolicious Burnett's. Seriously, make yourself a Pimms Cup. Esp. if you adore cucumber! They have great mixers like my beloved San Pelligrino Limonata and a few different bitter lemons. Seriously, if you have not mixed vodka with SP's Limonata....you have not lived. Try it. Hands down best mixer ever! If only a low cal SP existed! Of couse they also have Stirrings, McClure's, Red Bull, and sodas as well. If only more stores carried SP Limonata.....there is nothing by me in Auburn HIlls, so ML is a clear choice on my drive home from Detroit. The lack of SP is heart breaking. They have a nice selection of vino, a beer cave (which always sounds cool to me) and a decent selection of ciders. Oh, and they have my beloved Synergy Kombucha....kinda random in a liquor shop....but I love to pick this up when ever I can. It's nice to see this outside of Papa Joes, Whole Foods and Plum Market. They have a few snacks to pick up too as well as some tobacco products. The prices are spot on! Lowest prices on liquor and SP is cheaper here than in the supermarkets. That is refreshing because most party stores hose you on mixers. The staff is super friendly and super nice....they will help you anyway they can. They really go the extra mile. For example, giving you a box to carry your purchases in. And SUPER DOUPER BONUS is FREEEEEE Ice! Love that! Makes my cooler filled with San Pelligrino and vodka varitals smile poolside. read more

Why did it take me so long to visit ml.? Before I started on this craft beer kick, this place was on my radar when we moved to the area. It's important to know about the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to a lot of things, especially beer, wine & liquor stores. I was immediately impressed when I walked in. I am not really sure what I expected, but I really liked the layout, the lighting, and selection. The single bottle craft beer selection is pretty well stocked with a good variety. I was extremely excited to discover 1 of 2 bottles of a beer that had been sold out for a couple of weeks. I like that they had a lot of craft beer in the walk-in cooler. I really wanted to take something cold so I could enjoy it as soon as I got home. Now I have one more store to add to my list of stops for craft beer. As if I need another one. ha! read more

This place is heaven. The selection is stellar, and it's laid out in a way that makes you want to look at all the bottles as if you were in a museum (and hell, I guess you kind of are). My expectations were that this would be a unique place that would have a large selection of Michigan beer and wine. To really highlight the phenomenal variety and flavors Michigan has to offer. ML does have a vary large assortment of wines, it's organized well, including, what they call their "beer cave". However, their selection of both Michigan beer and wine was very small and disappointing. Michigan has amazing wineries up north and on the west side of the state and countless micro brews all throughout the state. I really wish they could have more Michigan products. ML Spirits is a cozy, well lit, clean, medium sized store with extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. If you just need a case of Bud, you might not appreciate the place that much, but if you actually have questions or are open to suggestions, they are the best hands down. The storefront is classy and conveniently located ON Woodward. There is a good amount of parking right in front, making quick stops really simple. I have always been impressed by the amount of beer, wine, and liquor available here. You name it, they have it, and if they don't- well then they'll order it for you and give you a call when it's in. Also, they usually have wine or liquor samples available (reps seem to be there A LOT), and sell craft beer by the bottle so you can make your own six pack then come back for more of what you liked best. While they have a better selection than most and average prices, what sets ML Spirits apart is that the staff truly knows what they're talking about, and will patiently help you find what you're looking for. If they don't have it (rare), they'll make suggestions based on your preferences, and they are spot on. I've seen them cordially help countless fussy customers in this fashion, some of whom I thought would never make up their mind. Finally, they are quite friendly and family oriented. It's like the "Cheers" of the neighborhood, and if you come in a few times, they'll get to know you and vice versa. read more

Bought a bottle of wine my one and only time in here, wasn't offered a bag or receipt, instead I was glared at and told I was all set. Great liquor store with a MASSIVE selection of hard to cocktails. They had the Goose Island beer I was looking for. Their humidor is also pretty decent for a store of this type. The liquor types, brands, and sizes available here is unmatched to any other local liquor store. A+!!! Two let-downs: 1. They took 2 days to get back to my email simply inquiring if they had something specific in stock. May want to check that more regularly, just my $.02. I guess though most people wouldn't be emailing in but you never know. 2. As noted by other reviewers, their selection of Michigan wines & beers is sub-par in my opinion. They definitely have them stocked, but I had anticipated a far more extensive selection. We are not wine snobs by any means but I can definitely say we have had our fair share of Michigan wines and hope they continue to expand in that area. I was looking for a fruit wine to make a sangria with and they were able to order a bottle of apple wine for me in time to make my mix. i went to ML over the weekend. As i entered i saw 2 staff not wearing masks. i asked "are you wearing masks here" they answered NO so i left. This is a breach of the guidelines set out by the CDC. Over 5000 people died in MIchigan and it is still not over. It is disrespectful NOT to wear a mask. If you don't care about yourself you should care for your customers and humanity in general. I don't like to post about bad business but going into this store makes you feel like your imposing on them. I have heard them complain about clients after taking phone calls or dealing with customers. It seems like they don't appreciate their customers and people spending their hard earned money at their store. My last visit will be my last. I first visited based on the recommendation of a friend. She said there was a large variety and the staff was knowledgeable. She was completely correct. It's a slightly overwhelming experience the first time visiting, with rows and rows of wine. The beer selection was also fairly extensive. Between all the regular brands one would expect to see, to most of the Michigan microbrews that I've come to love, I could find almost anything there. They also had a number of microbrews from around the country. I was surprised at the quality of suggestions given by one of the guys behind the counter. He seemed to have good knowledge of the beer and wine, and after telling him what I liked, he made a few suggestions that all turned out to be great. read more

I just discovered this store after noticing the sleek looking exterior driving home from work everyday and decided to check it out. This is one of the best stores to get your wine, liquor, or beer. The beer selection is one of the best around, with a ton of micro brews that are hard to find in stores like Kroger or Meijer. The interior is also the nicest out of any liquor I've been too in the Birmingham/Troy/Royal Oak area. I go here from time to time because I do like their selection, and I went in to try and find out how to get a bottle of the elusive pappy van winkle bourbon. I am more then aware of how hard it is to find, and know I must get lucky and be there when it arrives. I was told my best bet is to go online and pay $500 for it, about quadruple the retail price. I was then told that when they do get it in stock they will only give it to their "high end" customers. A word of advice, don't insult your customers. I live less then a mile from them, but will go out of my way to make sure I never give them business again. read more

My husband found this place -- which is surprising because I generally am the new store magnet. Now, it's where we buy most of our libations. Joe is a sweetheart and he lets my little Olive roam the store. He treats his customers so well that he delivered our last order right to our home! ML is the last independent wine and liquor store in Birmingham and offers its customers personalized attention, a good selection and very good pricing. I'm updating this review since there have been some personnel changes over the years. Joe is still the owner but John has been the buyer for several years and he remembers my past purchases and offers suggestions on other selections. ML tries harder than the competition and has won my trade. I think that the other wine retailers mentioned in the other reviews are very good, but I prefer to patronize my hometown shop.
