I was very excited to try this place because their website mentioned that they offer fresh kizami wasabi (I included a photo from the internet of the type of wasabi I've received when ordering this at other locations). I was pumped because not many places around Mansfield/Arlington seem to offer it and it really enhanced the experience of sushi. Unfortunately, I paid 1.99 for the fresh wasabi and received the regular wasabi paste.. which was fine, but usually that's standard at sushi places and not extra. I really was set to enjoy the rougher cut wasabi. Otherwise, I did order two California rolls for my kid and I, garlic Cajun edamame, pork gyoza and another roll (it had shrimp tempura and eel, but I can't remember the name). It was my first time trying the eel roll and I thought it was good. The California rolls were solid and my son enjoyed the gyoza potstickers. We came in on a Saturday around 3pm and the place was totally empty, but the staff was very nice and courteous when we entered to pick up our order. It took no time to put together and we enjoyed our sushi at home minus the fresh wasabi. It was also very clean in there. They need to improve on their portion sizes. Not only do they give ridiculously small portion sizes for their shrimp and chicken fried rice, they have the audacity to only put four shrimp in there. And let me not even begin to talk about the fact that they never have the Thai spring rolls. This used to be one of my favorite spots, but I guess I'll have to find another one. read more

Not too much sauce, or veggies, with just the right of protein. You get two protein options, the bowl itself is a generous portion. The staff is very friendly but I'll say it was hit & miss on service. It wasn't busy when we got there but by the time we ordered it had filled up more & the waitress had already taken two orders of tables that got seated after us by the time she came to take our orders. We also had to ask for drink refills twice. That being said, it wasn't like we thought she was a terrible waitress... very polite but just our observation on attentiveness. It was a super cold day in the DFW and it was the absolute perfect day to get some hot Udon soup to warm me up a bit. There are several types of Udon offered at Kaiyo, I decided to get the Nabeyaki Udon. It's pretty much the works. It comes with veggies, chicken, shrimp tempura and a soft boil egg. The dish was very tasty and came out pipping hot which was absolutely perfect for this super cold day in DFW. Loved the dashi based broth it had a wonderful flavor. The shrimp tempera was very good and the soft boil egg was a nice cooked soft boiled egg, the noodles were thick and perfect to work on my proper slurp game! I did not really care for the chicken but the rest of the soup was spot on! Since this a sushi place I got some yellow tail sashimi as my dessert. Very nice size pieces offered! Our waitress was very nice and super sweet and attentive to us and the entire restaurant. The inside was very cool with a bar you can sit and and watch the chefs work their craft. It was a little busy when we showed up but we were seated right away. This restaurant always has a nice atmosphere and all servers are friendly. Their menus are on a tablet, which was pretty cool. Prices are medium $$ range. Food came out quickly. I tried the hamachi krudo and Fuji San roll. The yellow tail in the hamachi krudo was pretty soft. The seasoning liquid was okay but could have used more flavor.The apples were a nice touch. (8/10) As for the Fuji San roll, I liked the smoked tuna component the most. The smokiness was a very prominent flavor, and the pieces of tuna were tender. Everything else was okay. The cajun seasoning was a tad too salty. The rolls were small (my guess is a half-sheet of nori was used) compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to. Considering the portion size, I feel like it's a little expensive for what it was. (6/10) Overall, I spent $30, but I was still somewhat hungry afterwards. Updating my review now since I just tried their Tom yum udon. The udon noodle are so soft and delicious! The Tom yum tasted exactly like it should. A bit sour and creamy! If you come here, try any of their udons! I also had their takoyaki and salmon teriyaki. The takoyaki was good. As always their tempura spicy crab roll was delicious. One thing that I didn't like was their salmon teriyaki. It was bland. I think the portion isn't that big either for the price. read more

Def an Americanized place Takoyaki - lots of dough. Two small pieces of octopus in each one. Kaiyo roll - was literally falling apart, it should be rolled tighter... Tiny slice of salmon on top.. ton of imitation crab to fill it to make the roll " appear bigger." It tasted good, don't get me wrong. But it could use more salmon... especially for 15 bucks.... Hamachi kama was ok. At least it wasn't over cooked. But lacked some flavor. Hot mama roll - def do not recommend. Barely any fish.. a ton if rice. Just a basic roll.. again not worth the price. It was served on a hot plate similar to what they serve fajitas on so it smelled amazing and the portion was generous. I had fried rice as well and it was a compliment to the dish. I came on a Friday around 11am when it just open so it wasn't very busy. The staff was friendly and courteous and told me to sit wherever and they will follow suit. I picked the bar where the table was high and my petite stature made me look even more like a child. The restaurant was clean and organized. I ordered the lunch special sashimi set which came with 6 sashimi pieces (choice of fish), 4 of either california roll or spicy tuna, and a choice of soup or salad. The waitress also recommended their house special called kaiyo roll. The food came out in a timely manner. I got the salad. The dressing was nice but the salad was drenched in it. The yellowtail sashimi tasted fresh and spicy tuna was good. The soy sauce came in packages instead of the bottle assuming for covid reasons. The kaiyo roll was very unique. I liked it but couldn't finish it...I over ordered. It was like a summer salad with fresh salmon, crab, and tempura shrimp wrapped in rice paper. Pretty much a jam packed vietnamese spring roll. Kaiyo is located within the shopping complex that is directly across from the hospital, Mansfield Methodist. Staff and chef were extremely welcoming and open to any feedback. My husband and I started with the yellowtail sushi and salmon belly sushi. Two pieces to an order. Both just melted in your mouth. Then we had the Philadelphia roll and the rainbow roll. Both were delicious! Prices are reasonable. Service was on point and fast! I cannot express how happy I am to have a sushi place so close, and so good, to home. We will be returning customers!
