Careless Work After Asbestos Removal -- Damaged My Renovated Home…read more I hired this company for asbestos removal. The ceiling removal and painting were done well, but everything else was handled with no care at all. My home was fully renovated before the project, and now I'm left with damages everywhere. The walls near the ceiling were scratched, and they tried to cover it up with paint that's a different shade of white, which made it even more noticeable. My door is chipped, and they stapled into my wood floors without removing the staples. The bathtub coating is peeling and chipped in multiple spots (see photos). It was in perfect condition before, so it's clear they didn't protect the area during the work. I've already spent 6 hours just touching up the walls, and I still haven't even started fixing the bathtub damage. For a company dealing with something as sensitive as asbestos, I expected professionalism and care -- instead, I'm left with frustration and extra work. I would only recommend this company if you don't care about anything else except the one thing you hired them for. Otherwise, be prepared to spend your own time fixing the mess they leave behind.

My entire living room ceiling collapsed and since the house was built in the 70's, before I had…read moreanyone come in to clean it up, I needed to know if it contained asbestos. One contractor said they could run the test but it would take 3-4 days and cost $500-600. What?! I looked up DIY test kits. Those seem to take weeks and are somewhat unreliable. So I checked for abatement companies and Hawaii Analytical Laboratory popped up in the search. While not an abatement company, they ARE a local, accredited lab that does same-day asbestos testing (among many others) for a very reasonable price. Luckily they were open during the pandemic lockdown and were so very helpful. They explained their prices and what kind of samples to grab. They also suggested putting up plastic sheeting to minimize any disturbance of the area. So I donned my asbestos haz mat mask (yes, I actually have one of those), put my samples in ziploc bags and headed to the lab. The building was unsurprisingly deserted. I expected a tumbleweed to blow by as the theme from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" played in the background. The woman I spoke to on the phone met me at the door. She carefully and patiently explained the entire process to me and she helped me consolidate my mess of ziploc bags into nice, cohesive samples. She explained the options based on how soon I needed the test results. The 1-2 hour being the most expensive and 4-6 hours being the next. I opted for the1-2 hour response so I'd still have some fingernails left, plus an abatement contractor was headed over shortly. And about 1.5 hours later, I got the (unfortunately bad) news. If I hadn't found them, I would have been waiting for days and paid $600. Instead, I had a nearly immediate result for a very small fraction of the cost. And it is a woman-owned company in what I would guess is a male-dominated field. How cool is that? So thank you Hawaii Analytical Laboratory! Service above and beyond!

SPS came in with one of the lowest bids which was great but Joe was also the quickest to respond to my calls and emails. He was friendly and very easy to work with. Unlike the other contractors who were not able to begin the work for several weeks to several months, SPS was able to schedule the work within 5 days. The crew arrived early the first day and were already waiting for me by the time I got there half an hour early. They spent the first day prepping and enclosing the home for the abatement. They also removed all toilets to get the mastic under them and put them back in place when they were done. They also removed the lighting fixtures to get the popcorn but I told them to leave the fixtures on the side since I was planning to replace them all. Everything went well with the abatement and they even finished a day earlier than expected. I highly recommend them for any abatement project.
