The southern most bar and restaurant in the US. We stopped by the bar/restaurant after hiking around Volcano National Park, it is on the way back to Kona. The bar has a local feel, you can spot the tourists. The space is a good size, airy with a center bar, a couple flat screens with the games on. Super friendly staff, hustling while still giving great service. Our server recommended a hard topical juice, which I've never had and was great. The drinks and food came out quickly. My friend and I split the fish and chips, made with Ono, which is a bit meatier (be prepared if expecting flakier fish) and was fresh and hot, with plenty of lemon and tar tar sauce. First of all, this town is pretty isolated so there aren't a lot of choices. It's a decent sized restaurant that's frequented by locals and an older clientele (at least it was on Sunday). They have a pretty big menu to order from as it is a full five pages. I ordered the Eruption burger. It's two 7 oz patties, with ham, bacon, egg, jalapeños, pico de gallo, & LTO. I ordered mine medium rare. It arrived well done. They also forgot the egg; in fact, didn't even ask me how I wanted the egg cooked. It was okay. I think it would have been much better if they got the temperature right because it was a bit dry. The chili cheese fries looked great but they were as bland as could possibly be. The chili had no flavor. The cheese, although properly melted, also lacked any distinctive taste. Even after generously seasoning with salt, pepper and hot sauce, it didn't have much flavor. The fries themselves were also underwhelming. Not crispy, not firm but slightly mealy. My friend said the club sandwich was how a club sandwich should be made. It was better than most but not great. (The standard is pretty low.) It looked as if there was a shift change when we arrived and at least three employees were clocking out. That left the bartender and one server for the entire restaurant and most of the tables were full (at 5:00 on Sunday night). Unfortunately, this was reflected in the service. We stopped by here because we happened to be passing by at lunchtime. Our expectations were moderate--so boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The interior is spacious and feels airy. It was very busy because a football game was going on, so we had to be a little patient, but the service was super friendly. And the food was fantastic. Possibly the best fried fish I've ever eaten. I went to KaiLokis twice during my 4 day stay in South Point. Once for dine-in at the bar and once for take-out. I highly recommend it when visiting South Point. I enjoyed the fried chicken and the hamburger steak. I love how they have vegetables as a side since it's so hard to find cooked veggies with Hawaiian food. The veggies were fresh and tasted amazing! Stopped here on our way to black sand beach. Great decision! We arrived at 1:30 and "lunch specials" start at 2:00. My wife wanted the half order of fish and chips which started at 2:00. Staff was more than happy to make that happen. I ordered the full portion. Fish was amazing and slaw was equally good. Nice to have homemade slaw as a side. Not too sweet, not too sour, perfect balance. Server was great with service. The place is obviously a local gathering watering hole. The bar was will by the time we left. I will stop here again. We were on our way back to Kona from south of the island and I brought up trusty Yelp and found this restaurant. From the outside it's a no frills building that barely resembles a typical restaurant. Thankfully, a sign was posted on the road so we were able to spot it readily. Upon entering, we could hear music as you walk down a short hallway flanked by windows on one side and murals on the other. I thought the place was going to be a dive but I was wrong. To the right was the bar and the rest of the space was the dining area. We seated ourselves since it looked like the room was full. The decor was very rustic but clean. Unfortunately, we were seated in front of the "entertainment." He must have been a regular because he called out people by name. We were greeted by our waiter, Cosmos, who seemed to be a bit frazzled since he was the only server in the place. I ordered the hamburger steak with garden vegetables over rice while my husband opted for the typical cheese burger with fries. It took almost an hour to get our food. In the meantime, we had to suffer through the "entertainment " but we were not entertained, rather annoyed. All the songs sounded alike and he consistently sang off key! We would rather listen to nails scratching over a chalkboard. Yes, it was that bad, sorry! Finally, Cosmos brought out the food and thankfully by that time the entertainer only had 15 minutes left in his session. Thank God! Overall, our food was pretty good so it was worth waiting for. Our server was attentive and asked how we liked our meal. We told him we were very satisfied with the food. We asked why it took so long. He said there was one cook in the back in a small kitchen not only filling orders in the restaurant but also to go orders. We would go back but choose to go earlier in the day. They boast an ocean view but we arrived early evening and couldn't see anything. Did not enjoy their choice of entertainment at all but glad it was mostly over by the time we got our food. This is a decent local spot. We popped in after a long day of driving for a quick bite. I can see locals gathering here as their hometown bar of choice. Nothing was exceptional, and nothing was bad. Kai Lokis in Ocean View, HI is the local eatery and bar. We try to hit them up at least once a month, and bring friends when they visit. I've never had a bad meal here. Well drinks and draft beer are always good. Fish n chips, burgers, Wednesday specials are always fresh and served with a smile. They are dedicated to turning out delicious grinds with a great feel, and there are always locals enjoying this place. Our faves are fish n chips (3 big pieces of ono with sides), ono sandwich (3 big pieces, again), and beef or chicken burgers. The little new touches like fry baskets show they are always updating. I live here in OV. Went to Kai Loki's To get a burger. VERY DISAPPOINTED!. $22 for a bacon cheeseburger and ff's. Barely got any fries, got 1 onion ring. Not a slice, 1 tomato slice, didn't even fit the burger. I can go on... I did call to talk to someone in charge and was told, there is no one person in charge. I said surely someone in the kitchen is more senior. Then I spoke to John who really isn't in charge. But he was nice and helpful and I appreciate him. Do better! read more

My group of 8 had a very nice dinner here on our way back to Kona from Volcano National Park. There was only one waiter serving the whole restaurant, but he was attentive and on top of things. I'll be honest, their menu was a blast to the past because there were items on it I had seen since the 80's and 90's, like chicken fried steak and a retro club sandwich. This isn't a criticism. We all had fun reminiscing about dishes we used to live but hadn't had in years. EDIT to add that the restaurants response to me including their description of us sitting at a reserved table and receiving hugs from staff members is just either an outright lie or they have identified the incorrect party. Another example of poor customer service. I live down the street on Hawaii Blvd. so I really feel bad to give a bad review but I see them posting online about how badly they need customers, etc yet they treat customers poorly. We had a group of 8 on a Friday night. When we walk in, they are prepping for karaoke, the place is pretty much empty and the woman behind the bar asks "do you have a reservation?" And acted bothered when we said no.... I'm sorry but I've never thought about making a reservation to go to Kai Lokis and the place is empty so what's the issue? Anyway she decides to prepare a table for us and we sit down. We call it the sewage table because whenever we are seated there, halfway through the meal you get to enjoy the delightful scent of sewage seeping in through the window. Anyway it seemed like everyone was in a terrible mood (except for our server- she was actually wonderful and very nice!). I don't know if it was a bad night or what but after that night i can see why people don't return. The food was cold- not warm- cold. Food that should have been hot was cold. My daughter wanted to sing karaoke and felt like she was treated rudely when she first tried to sign up, and then once he realized he had seen her before he was suddenly so much nicer to her. If you treat perceived "outsiders" badly, they won't come back. You have the advantage of being the "southernmost bar in the US", offer some hearty aloha when guests come in, make them feel welcome, serve them good food, and they will come back! Thank you so much for saving our asses When we got to the island Friday we didn't realize what time all the restaurants closed let me tell you it is 7 PM let me repeat that it is 7 PM. We basically felt Stranded because we didn't have anything for dinner or lunch. So 30 minutes away from our hotel was this place and thank God because it was one of the best burgers that I've ever had in my entire life. This bad boy is a grass fed burger and the cheese was banging and of course I had it with a beer and fries. The atmosphere may be a little intimidating but just go in take a seat and you'll be fine. We were some of the unlucky souls who sat right underneath the karaoke TV on karaoke night. The local Victor who was setting up for karaoke was so sweet helped us move our table was absolutely phenomenal and sweet to us thank you so much for making us not feel like idiots. We did not stay for more karaoke night as we didn't wanna impede on the locals however I'm still gonna give it a five out of five and I would absolutely go back and I absolutely recommend this place for everybody and anybody. read more

Outstanding experience here! The food was absolutely delicious - all 9 of my family members were beyond happy with their meals. The veggies were amazing, as well as fish and chips and calamari. Atmosphere was great, full of locals who were all so kind. I can't say enough about our sever, Victor - after a mix up in the kitchen that caused a delay in our food, he brought out two cheesecake slices before our meals for us to sample.
