    Passionfruit Cheesecake with hazelnut-chocolate cakebase
    Laura L.

Very nice place to spend a foggy afternoon in Copenhagen (not only- but we did). You can even sit outside cause there are heaters and blankets. We drank hot chocolate and a Cafe Latte and had a overall delicious piece of Passionfruit Cheesecake - with hazelnut-chocolate-cakebase *yummy* and some halloween/autumn-special-cakey thing with cinnamon and apple, anyways it was delicious. The photo of the cakes is not promising to much :) And most important the waitress was really friendly and helpful! One last note: there are salty snacks to order too, like sandwiches and stuff. So every little hunger will be served ;)

Known for being the first vegan bakery in Copenhagen, Kaf was the first establishment I had to visit upon my arrival to Denmark! My husband and I shared the Kafs Brunch Deluxe, which the employee kindly let me know that we were still able to order it after noon, and I also got the varm chokolade (hot chocolate) with flødeskum (whipped cream). The hot chocolate was more warm than hot, but delicious regardless. It had a strong chocolate/cacao flavor without being overly sweet. In fact, I would've probably wanted it to be sweeter if I hadn't added the whipped cream. As for the Kafs Brunch Deluxe --which included sourdough bun with butter, cheese, homemade-nutella & jam, garnished avocado, chia yogurt with granola, berries, fresh fruit and croissant, both my non-vegan husband and I absolutely loved it and devoured the entire thing within minutes. Croissant was a bit more oily than I expected, but had the perfect crunch to each bite. Garnished avocado was super flavorful, maybe from the truffle oil that we suspect they added. Cheese felt and tasted close to an actual (non-vegan) cheese slice, with a nice, nutty aroma. But my absolute favorite was the homemade-nutella --as an ex-nutella fanatic, I hold a strict standard for "homemade" nutellas, but I must say that their version beats the original! It had a strong hazelnut flavor with just the right amount of sweetness, and to top it off, a nice crunchy texture (that probably wasn't from the nuts, but maybe cookies/chips of some sort?). The only downside was that we weren't allowed to use our laptops for work, but that seems to be a pattern over cafes in Copenhagen. I have a full list of other vegan restaurants or restaurants with vegan options that I'm planning to visit during my short stay here, but I would love to come back to Kaf to try other things on the menu, like their cakes!

I was pleasantly surprised to be totally wrong. The Burrata Bowl was not only beautifully arranged but a cohesive dish of complementary fixings. The hero flavors--the burrata itself and a vegan green garlic sauce--were delicious. The supporting cast of roasted carrots and almonds added textures and subtle notes to make it a knockout dish. It'd be to tough resist getting this bowl again, but other menu options sounded intriguing too. Copenhagen is lucky to have so many locations. I wish I could take one home.

The food took 15-20 minutes to come out but was worth the wait. The daal was complexly flavoured, with a richness you don't usually get in the dish, served with roasted elements and cherry tomatoes -- quite unusual but it worked. The risotto was made with bulgur instead of rice, and we were both a fan of that. Quite a deep flavour profile, and the mushrooms really imparted nice depth. Good value for money, especially for Copenhagen, and very tasty. Comfortable cafe as well. Recommended.

We were there for lunch, and the reservation says you get the table for two hours. We were there for 2 hours, but it seemed unnecessarily long. There were several dishes that we seemed to wait for ever for. I think they could improve a bit on the timing. The restaurant is also a bit out of the way from the main tourist attractions. The neighborhood is really cute and there are lots of shops around. The cemetery nearby is also where Hans Christian Andersen's grave is. Without making a trip to the restaurant we probably would have missed out on such a cute part of town.

I opted for the juice pairing here and it was delightful. First time trying it and there were so many unique flavors. Overall, I feel it doesn't quite enhance the food as well as wine, but it's still worth a try. We went with the 5 course menu, which turned out to be avant-garde. One interesting aspect is that the table has all the utensils in a hidden drawer. Pre-appetizer Fried shallots in sourdough batter with sourdough sauce. This was a nice treat that was lightly fried. The sourdough bread here is definitely the best I've had. It's super fresh from the oven, skin was slightly burnt and crispy and the inside dough was so fluffy. Danish cucumber and coriander mackarel - very light. Nice intro. Not much mackarel taste. Fermented gooseberry and elderflower - this juice pairing was slightly sour from the fermentation. Zuchinni basil, zuchinni sauce - Delightful dish. Very flavorful. Zuchinni was all warm and easy to cut. Very fleshy almost like meat. Fruit juice was basically a palette cleanser prepping my mouth for the same experience over and over. Blueberry and pine honey - reminds me of being in nature. Strong smell of pine. Sweet blueberry aftertaste. This was an amazing juice by itself. Dill with cuts of lamb - interesting dish that came with a contrasting dish made of white radish, sheep yogurt and dill vinegar. Almond milk cheese apricot basalmic sauce. Cracker from waste of almond milk pulp. Cracker was not too crunchy. Almond milk cheese was fantastic. Thick and a little rougher, but very almonds. They used some cheese culture to make it so it's not vegan. Birch tea and earl grey tea - strong earl taste. Heavy on the tongue. Chervil and dandelion juice pairing. Parfait - currant, meringue, rose. Creamy and sweet from the currant. Juice pairing was a good neutralizer for the sweetness.

I originally went for the frøsnapper, a danish poppy seed pastry, but every time I went they were out, so I finally opted for a cinnamon roll. The vegan foods in Hawaii are nothing special, so I was a little hesitant on buying something vegan, but at 15kr a piece, I figured why not. I am so glad I got it, because it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. The pastry was very chewy but flaky on the outside, and there was just the right amount of cinnamon. It was also very buttery (but of course it wasn't actual butter). The prices are much cheaper than the other bakeries that I went to, and I like these cinnamon rolls a lot more than the overly hyped Sankt Peders Bageri ones.
