Cool Japanese sushi place for dinner while looking for a place to eat in Syosset. Service was good and staff was friendly...variety of food to choose from. Parking lot is small and shared with other stores unless you can find street parking. Came here pre-pandemic...hence no social distancing dividers in the pics Had the fried calamari appetizer to share (small dish) and each of us got dinner bentos...which was good and a lot of food.. Miso soup, salad and shumai served with the dinner bentos: beef teriyaki, shrimp and veggie tempura, and chicken katsu bento... all were good Save room for dessert... we had the tempura cheesecake to try. It was ok. Will come back to try other items on the menu.

General Tso' Chicken

I ordered delivery and got chicken broccoli, spicy salmon with avocado, Kano salad, general tso and a shrimp lomein - ends up being $75. So heads up - items can be a little above average for Chinese fusion. The beef - too big in size and chewy - was not worth it and we ended up eating the broccoli mostly instead. The lomein isn't the typical fatter noodle but a thinner one. But it was good nonetheless; the shrimp on side note were big shrimps in size. The general tso, spicy salmon avo were all good and not great but wasn't bad - average. The Kano salad isn't really worth the price.

Chicken teriyaki bento box with white rice, shumai and california rolls.

This is my go-to Japanese takeout spot! I love ordering their Bento Box lunch special. It's only about $11-$12 and I usually get chicken teriyaki, shumai, california rolls, white rice, miso soup, and a ginger salad. It's delicious, filling and the best deal you'll find for Japanese food in the area. They're also super quick to prepare your order and everything tastes fresh. I don't think I've ever waited longer than 20 minutes to pick up my food. I know I'll be ordering again!

Spicy girl roll, magical roll, black pepper tuna, aac (asparagus, avocado, cucumber)

A year ago, I might have given Kado a three-star review. A few months ago, a four. Now my dear Kado, I am upgrading you to the coveted five-star status. The magical roll is just that. Magical. I don't want to even venture out into new roll territory because I love this roll so much. It is comprised of eggplant, spicy tuna, avocado and a sweet miso glaze. Oh boy, could I go for this roll right now. Awesome. The spicy girl roll is also very good. Spicy salmon, tuna, yellowtail and avocado with crunch. Mmmmm! The black pepper tuna roll was also good, as was the Eric roll (this was a special so I don't remember what exactly was on it - you can check the board upon entering). Edamame and green tea is pretty standard. The interior leaves a bit to be desired. I don't know if I am a fan of the neon and disco ball upon entering, but it doesn't really bother me THAT much. The service was really great one time, and then another time, the waitress remarked a few times that we must be hungry, saying, "You ordered so much food! Are you going to eat all of that?" Umm...yes, yes we are. Two special rolls, two regular rolls, and an order of edamame split between two people. Is this a lot of food? Is this pigging out on sushi times? I'd like to think not, because this is typically what we order at whatever sushi joint we happen to hit up when the sushi craving calls. Although sometimes we swap out the edamame for steamed dumplings. Mmmm...steamed dumplings. Anyway, sushi here is wonderful, atmosphere is OK and service has the chance to be wonderful. But please, fellow sushi patrons, I am curious to see if what we order is over abundant. See photos for reference, and if you love eggplant you absolutely MUST order the magical roll - one of my favorite rolls from any sushi restaurant on the island. *Note: check out the coupon books for savings. 10% if paying by card, and 15% if paying cash. Starving artists need sushi too!

Shrimp Pad Thai

One of my usual work week lunch spots. I usually get either 2 lunch sushi rolls for 8.95 or 3 lunch sushi rolls for 10.95... I always get the eel avocado which I recommend. Today I opted for one eel roll and tried the shrimp pad Thai. Really good and seasoned well. Service is super quick which is great for a lunch break... Enough time to sit down and eat and get back to work... You can also order for pickup, which I have done when short on time. And the staff are friendly, which is always a plus!

We have been customers of Kado for many years. During the pandemic we've ordered delivery many times and the food and service never disappoint! The food is always delicious and it's certainly one of our favorite Asian restaurants in Syosset.

My sad cup of ice that never saw the fried ice cream
Katie D.

Food was good which is why it got the stars. The reason it's not 5 stars is because of below... I got miso soup and two fried ice creams to go. Only problem was that when I asked that both fried ice creams containers have ice on top of them, instead I got a cup of ice in a separate bag and my fried ice cream melted on top of my miso soup. Unfortunately whoever packed this delivery did me wrong very badly.. it's sad.

Fish bones in my sashimi. Not fun.
Paul H.

Environment is ok but the sushi is fairly awful. The sloppy preparation of the food saw fish bones still intact in my salmon sashimi. When I notified staff of this issue they brushed it off as, "Well salmon does have a lot of bones in it." Overall, a cheap place for sushi but you get what you paid for.

miso soup, same as any other from an average sushi place
Amanda F.

Average sushi. Got a 3 roll lunch delivered to my job. 2 spicy tuna rolls and 1 california roll comes with miso soup and salad. I also ordered pork gyoza. That was delicious, cooked well and tasty. But as far as the sushi goes.. didn't seem that fresh. Everyone else's glowing reviews made me choose this place but i've had better sushi. The nori paper was tough and the sushi itself tasted slightly fishy so it probably wasn't fresh. The soup was the same as all the other miso soups and the salad was fresh but the lettuce was unfortunately wet and not dried enough. i'll go elsewhere for sushi. And $4 to add avocado on top is robbery. I know they always charge extra i get that but it's usually like $1-2 not $4!!! Not worth it!!!

I found this place on Find Me Gluten and was so excited to try it. The staff were so kind and very well informed about my allergies. The entire menu can be customized to be gluten-free. They told me they have seperate, dedicated fryers for items like tempura and that the only items that I couldn't have were the tamago, eel, imitation crab and the dumplings. We got an order of the shrimp and vegetable tempura and the Rock shrimp (which was suggested to us by the staff). Both were absolutely delicious. They gave me my own gluten-free dipping sauce for the tempura as well as gluten-free soy sauce. We split the sushi for 2 and they made sure the tamago my husband ordered for himself wasn't touching my pieces. I had the lox roll with that and we ordered a Las Vegas roll to split, which was customized to remove the imitation crab and swapped for shrimp instead. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious, especially the salmon. I was so happy to enjoy a wonderful meal like this again. They gave us some sashimi on the house and some fresh honeydew for dessert. The place was beautifully decorated and very clean. To top it all off there were no extra charges for making anything gluten-free! I will gladly come back here again.

The restaurant itself is stunning, beautiful design, good music, and an upscale bar that transports you far from the reality of being in a strip mall on Jericho Turnpike. The ambiance feels high end and thoughtfully curated. However, a few details reminded us we were still in a strip mall. Small but important things that could easily make or break this place. The bartender, who essentially represents the restaurant and sets the tone , the "sensei" of the establishment, so to speak. He was friendly and kind, but his expertise in cocktails and culinary knowledge was lacking. After our first cocktail, I made it clear that I dislike sweet drinks or wines. He then recommended a Riesling which is known for being a sweet, semi-dessert wine -- which made me question his understanding of the menu. He seemed young and inexperienced, though well-intentioned. The food was a mixed experience. The raw bar appetizers were excellent, and both the lobster udon pasta and spaghetti were delicious! Unfortunately, the lamb chops were a complete miss. We ordered them medium rare, as they arrived so..they were looking and tasting boiled, with no sear, no crust, and a chewy texture. Halfway through my second glass of wine, the bartender refilled it without asking. I assumed it might be on the house, tipping me off. As it wasn't a full glass of wine. When the bill came, I saw I had been charged for a full glass. He never asked if I wanted another; he simply refilled it and added it to the check. That's an amateur. We also received a complimentary glass of champagne (which we noticed was being served to all omakase guests), though the bartender presented it as though it were a personal gesture from him. His words were "these last two rounds were on me". Meanwhile, it was just a 2 glasses of champagne.. my husband and I ordered 3 drinks each, one of which I was poured and did not ask for. Until the service matches the sophistication of the space, this restaurant will struggle to keep diners coming back.

As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Melinda, one of our favorite waitresses, and were seated right away. May, who was also working tonight, promptly came over to take our order. She politely asked if we needed menus, but I declined since we already knew exactly what we wanted. We've had this same exchange with May quite a few times during our recent visits. We ordered our usual: the Sushi for Two, which comes with two specialty rolls and 18 pieces of sushi. Tonight we chose the Dozo Dozo and the Futomaki Special rolls. The meal also comes with either soup or salad, and tonight we both chose the soup. That's how much we love this dish. We had just returned from a two-week trip to South Florida this past Saturday, and the very next day--Sunday--we came here and ordered the exact same meal. And here we are again tonight doing the same. This restaurant consistently serves some of the freshest, premium-quality fish around. Tonight's 18 pieces included bluefin tuna, O-toro, king salmon, scallops, sea bass, red snapper, fluke, yellowtail, and Spanish mackerel. Every piece was tender and incredibly fresh. Yes, the price reflects the quality--but you absolutely get what you pay for. In my experience, there are not many sushi restaurants on Long Island that consistently serve fish of this caliber. We left once again completely satisfied, which is exactly why this place remains one of our weekly go-to spots.
