Reasonably priced and fresh sushi/sashimi. I recommend the Salmon Love appetizer... all fish, no rice...spicy salmon wrapped in soy paper and fresh salmon with jalapeno on top. We ordered the sushi and Sashimi combo which usually comes with regular tuna but they served it with toro. Not sure if this is the norm here but all their fish was very fresh. If you aren't a fan of raw fish, they have a pretty extensive cooked menu. I wouldn't recommend the Chilean Sea bass dish...it was a bit bland and they just pour teriyaki sauce on top. Upon first entering, I was concerned I was underdressed. The entry foyer is beautiful and given that it is located in a strip mall, it really is impressive. We obtained a booth along one wall, and we attended to right away by a young woman who asked us for a drink order--- a Lychee martini for the mad Russian and a Grey Goose martini for yours truly. Both were excellent and started the expectations high for the rolls we would soon be served. The rolls did not disappoint and the miso soup was good as well. The entire experience was what gained the extra star from me and had it been for less service or for decor, it would have been a three star event. Having said that, presentation and service and ambience for the meal reigned supreme and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. For sure we can be counted on for a return trip and a revisited review. Kado has a very modern, clean look to it. As with many of the new sushi places on LI, you get the feeling that if they cleared out some tables and blasted some EDM it would be a pretty sweet lounge. Luckily they refrain from the womp, womp, beats, beats and simply make delicious sushi. The prices are typical for the local LI sushi places with $4-7 regular rolls and $11-15 specialty rolls. The drink menu looks legit and lots of ladies had neon looking cocktails in front of them. I stuck with beer and sake. On this last trip I rolled with (rim shot) the special 'Lin-sanity Roll', which was filled with spicy crab, spicy lobster and topped with avocado and another UFO. Price...unknown. Taste...delicious. Other treats were the American Dream, Syosset and Monster rolls. In my three trips at Kado my friends and I have sampled most of the appetizers. There was nothing that stood out from the pack besides a very fresh tuna and avocado salad. The only real knock on Kado was the service. Have you ever gotten the feeling at some restaurants that the employees would rather you were not there? Ever get that vibe like the waiter (in this case waitress) is straight up mad at you for reasons unknown? This odd phenomenon happened on two of the three trips there. On the other trip I requested to sit at a table instead of a booth bc I have some, ahem, 'bigger' friends. I was told that since we only had 3 people we had to take a booth. The place was 95% empty at the time. Boo. 4 Stars for the food alone. Solid eats. I had to knock one star off for the service issues. read more

I take back my previous reviews. The food does not make up for the horrible service I just experienced. I am a regular at kado as you can see below. I am here at least once a week. When ordering my lunch special this morning the man taking my order who I'm pretty sure is the manager or owner of kado was extremely rude to me. He hung up on me twice before I could finish my order. I assumed they were just busy but when I got there to pick up my order there was no customers there. Then after being charged for two spicy mayos and only receiving one I went back in to get the other I had already paid for. He demanded a dollar for it. They were terribly rude and clearly do not appreciate their business. I will be taking my business to kashi where they have better sushi and a friendly appreciative staff. Sushi is one of those items that its either really fresh and delicious, or horrible and can make you terribly sick. Fortunately, at Kado in Syosset, the fish is fresh and the rolls are delicious. On a recent trip home my parents asked me where I wanted to go for dinner. I was craving sushi and knew that Kado would hit the spot perfectly. Kado is located in a strip mall right in the town of Syosset and from the exterior, you could easily miss it. When my family and I sat down, we knew exactly what we wanted and placed our order immediately. On this particular night, we went to dinner a little bit on the early side so the restaurant was kind of empty. Sometimes when this happens, the sushi chefs have extra time on their hands and whip up interesting creations for the guests to try. Fortunately this was one of those nights. The creation of the evening was a sushi roll with avocado and salmon on the inside topped with tuna and tempura flakes and then drizzled with spicy mayo, wassabi sauce and then eel sauce. Hopefully they add this to the menu soon because it was wonderful. Then, the food we ordered started to arrive. First, the Tuna Dumpling came out. But this is not your traditional dumpling, forget the sticky noodles, this is way better. It's sushi grade tuna wrapped around mango, avocado and seaweed salad with basil sauce to drizzle on top. Easily the best rendition of a dumpling I've ever had. Next, the Sashimi Salad came out. This was tuna, salmon and baby greens with onion dressing. All the ingredients were very fresh and made for a really refreshing dish. Next up was the Kado Sandwich. This was an item that I had previously had as a chefs creation. It's not on the menu yet, but they'll make it for you if you ask. It's tuna and avocado 'sandwiched' between rice and seaweed with a drizzling of spicy mayo and eel sauce on top. This and the tuna dumpling are my two favorite dishes. We also tried the Magical Roll which was spicy tuna and avocado topped with miso glazed eggplant. I love miso glazed eggplant and it added a nice bit of crunch to the roll. Kado has some really interesting sushi options on their menu that are sure to satisfy even the most adventurous of eaters. Next time you're in Syosset I highly recommend checking it out. read more

Really great overall sushi. We had the salmon love roll which was FULL of salmon goodness and a little jalapeño on top. There's no rice in the roll. Literally, the salmon will take place of the rice. If you don't like salmon, this is probably not for you. Also had the sushi box cake with salmon which was pictured as a little tower in the pics. Ordered it cuz we thought it was cute and love salmon but it wasn't really presented as such. It was still very interesting though! They give you about 6 pieces of seaweed on the side and wrap it around the sushi roll they give you. We also got the Yankee sandwhich which was on point. I personally thought it was slightly better than the salmon love roll because it had that tempura and eggplant crunch to it instead of just pure fish. Very unique roll also. I want to like Kado. I really do. But in the past few years, I just feel the quality and service has gone downhill. The past few visits for lunch and dinner have been less than enjoyable. I have found that the sushi to not be as tasty as other sushi restaurants nearby. Other things, like the salads, tend to be incredibly watery, bordering on soup. I don't know if their dressing is just so watery, or they don't bother to dry the lettuce after washing. The other issue has been service. One example is on our most recent visit we asked for a custom roll and another roll to come without the sticky-hosin/BBQ-like sauce they douse on many rolls. The waitress seemed unwilling to make a custom roll consisting of common ingredients (tuna, avocado, cucumber, etc..) until we told her we would be willing to pay the extra (which turned out to be 50 cents). She also forgot to tell the sushi chef to hold the sauce, so the toll came out swimming in the sauce, requiring the whole thing to be remade. The restaurant also seems unwilling to take coupons they send out. It took multiple conversations to convince them that a coupon that said "Valid for lunch or dinner," could in fact be used for lunch. In all, I can't say I'll come back for average food and mediocre service. read more

A friend & I just came from here. We had the Rock'n Salmon, Kado King Roll & Tiger Roll and of course Miso Soup. It was ALL GOOD. The staff was friendly but a little pushy like every minute ready to order ready to order?? lol.. Basically with 2 desserts our meal came out to just under $60. I really enjoyed the Tiger Roll. I would like to come back and try some of the other items on the menu one day. For dessert we had Fried Banana and Vanilla Fried Ice Cream. They were good but I had better. I wanted a bento box for dinner but they didn't have one. What Japanese restaurant doesn't have a bento box. DELICIOUS! We usually go to Kumo in Plainview but they frequently have an attitude when my mom and I go. Well, we've found our new place. I got the tuna dumplings which is avocado, mango, and seaweed salad wrapped in tuna and topped with tobiko. Gorgeous and the tuna was super fresh tasting. We had a sweetheart roll which was also good, though probably didn't need the sauce. The cucumber roll was packed with cucumber, a nice change from the mostly-rice rolls found elsewhere. The tuna avocado roll had a lovely amount of tuna and nice chunks of avocado. They brought some pineapple for dessert and also brought us two pieces of some sort of special roll with my mom's salad.
