Seems that after taking my parents to the Nandos in Manchester they are now big fans, so during our…read moremeet up in Hull it was clear that there was only one place they wanted to dine. After browsing the shops in the St Stephens shopping centre we were rather peckish so headed up to the first floor for a good chunk of chicken. Between us we shared one of the platters, which consisted of a whole chicken and four sides. Possibly a little bit too much food for three people at lunch - definitely a good size for four people (but I guess it depends how much food you can manage). It's great that you can pick how hot you'd like the chicken, plus if you want some extra flavour or spice you can choose some sauce from their condiments section. I utterly adore nandos peas, fresh and minty which is a nice taste after the spice. This particular nandos doesn't have anything extra to offer other than their usual menus. The toilets were a lot nicer than other nandos I've visited.

I have used this in the past. The food is OK though on the expensive side…read more However, I want to post this review in my recent experience. I visited the takeaway on the evening of 22nd November. There were 3 staff members, one young lady, and 2 men. There were no customers. I ordered a burger and fries, the total came to 8 pounds something and as they are card only I paid by chip and pin. Yesterday when I routinely checked my credit card account I was shocked to see that I have been charged £80.80! I phoned the place, a lady picked up and when I explained the issue she put the phone down. I rang again, this time she passed the phone to a man who said, 'Not us, thank you' and put the phone down. The third time I said do not put the phone down and put me to the manager, a man came on and said there is no manager. I explained the issue and he said they could not do anything as the manager is not there and they could not access the accounts, he said he was the driver. When asked where is the manager he said in London and they do not know when he will come as he lives there. They refused to help me in any way and did not offer to communicate my problem to the manager. In the end, I had no option but to hang up as it was like banging your head against a brick wall. So I do not know if the overcharge was an error but what is ridiculous is that this establishment is being run without a manager or responsible person by the most rude and unhelpful staff.

Poor food, worse attitude -- won't be returning…read more I had high hopes for Merit Chinese Takeaway, but this was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with a local takeaway. The food was below average -- greasy, bland, and clearly not made with care. The chicken balls were mostly soggy batter with very little meat inside, and the curry sauce tasted like it came from a packet. Rice was dry, noodles were overcooked, and nothing we ordered had the freshness or flavour you'd expect. But what stood out even more than the poor food was the atmosphere inside the shop. While I was waiting for my order, I witnessed the owner speaking to young staff members in a completely unacceptable way. It was unprofessional, condescending, and bordered on outright bullying. No one -- especially young people likely in their first jobs -- should be spoken to like that in the workplace. It made the whole experience uncomfortable and awkward. If the food had been incredible, maybe I could overlook a few issues. But when you combine subpar quality with an unpleasant environment and a lack of basic respect for staff, it's a definite no from me. I won't be supporting this business again.
